DREW CANOLE IS A ROCKSTAR IN THE WORLD OF FITNESS, NUTRITION, AND MINDSET...

...with a huge heart for others and doing his part to transform the world, one person at a time.

FitLIfe.tvDREWCANOLE

Fueled by small-town values and a big vision for a better planet, Drew Canole begins each day with one simple goal in mind – to positively impact the lives of others. Through his work as a Personal Coach and endeavors such as EnrichY-ourExistence.com and FitLife.tv, Drew aims to inspire and motivate others to search deep within themselves to create an abundant, healthy and fulfilling life. “Improve one life; improve the world.”

Drew was born and raised in the small, rural community of Lake City in Northern Michigan. After attending Central Michi-gan University, he launched a successful career in finance before recognizing that his greatest talent was helping others discover their untapped potential. He currently resides in San Diego, where his

work as an author, fitness specialist and transformation expert has made him one of the most reputable personal coaches in Southern California.

Drew is committed to the conviction that people are at their best when challenged. He pushes others to bust through per-sonal barriers and reach new heights in physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

I understand you started your career as a mortgage broker. What did your journey from the world of financial health to physical health & wellness look like?

I took a lot of risks and I can honestly say it was the most rewarding thing I have done up to this point in my life. I was

The #1 thing I would recommend people STOP doing is focusing on "lack" or something being "too hard." Instead, shift that to an ABUNDANCE mindset - having all that you need within - and each piece as a blessing. It's changed my life, truly.

simply surviving, not thriving. I was caught up in the day-to-day hustle to make money and I knew I wasn’t living my full potential - or purpose! I moved to San Diego from Florida with a vision and I haven’t stopped since. What began as me sharing my personal story with health and losing 40 pounds through juicing on YouTube has turned into an online well-oiled machine with a team of people on a mission to change the world and transform humanity.

Our organic superfoods company, Organifi, has been incredibly powerful in the way we are now able to reach people and truly provide something that 3rd party clinical trials has shown to benefit the entire body, from weight loss, to mood, even sleep. I feel really blessed to be doing what I love each day and helping people along the way.

How has juicing changed your life and why do you love it so much?

It literally shifted everything for me and showed me on a deeper level what I now know I was placed on this planet to do - and that’s to help heal the world.

I personally lost 40 pounds by dropping the junk and drinking green juice instead of loading up on caffeine and indulging in alcohol on the weekends. It allowed my mind to become clearer and more focused. I used to workout multiple times a day

with no results, hoping that something would shift. And it wasn’t until I begin juicing veggies and minimal fruit on a daily basis that I found myself with more stamina and focus to really hone in on what WAS working and feel better in my own skin.

I love the fact that I can drink POUNDS of veggies in just ONE juice and it actually tastes delicious! It’s simple, it’s beneficial and it’s completely changed my life. I see others making this shift every day and to see their world change too - what a gift!

There is also some confusion about the difference between juicing and smoothies? Can you expand upon the similarities and differences?

To keep it simple, juicing removes the fiber and allows all the nutrients to go straight to your cells to begin positively impacting you on a cellular level immediately.

I also love smoothies and they are both great options, but I really believe you should have both. Smoothies have fiber included and do take a bit longer to digest and breakdown because of it. But they tend to keep you fuller longer and provide the important fiber necessary for digestion, healthy blood sugar stabilization and cholesterol management.

We here at Ask Dr. Nandi believe that everyone has a purpose and passion that if pursued will lead to a happier and healthier life. How did you find your purpose and what advice would you give to others looking to find and follow their purpose?

Well, to expand on my earlier comments, I would add and have to say - TRUST. I made my decision based on my intuition. Sounds absolutely crazy and to some, I may very well be (I’m okay with that)! But I knew deep down what I was meant to do and when something feels so right, you will figure out the path as you go. I am still figuring it out to a degree because our companies (FitLife.tv and Organifi) continue to grow and expand. It’s exciting and at times, I am still a little scared. But it’s worth it because I am positive I am on the right path for me.

I would encourage you to dig in and discover your WHY. What I mean by that is really getting clear on what excites you! If money didn’t matter, what would you want to do all day? And once you know that, find a way to monetize it. Surround yourself with people just like you who you can lean

on and count on for support and encouragement. And always be that person for them as well because like we say at FitLife… “remember, we’re in this together.”

Your health & wellness empire continues to grow. Tell us about FitLife.tv and any new projects on the horizon.

FitLife.tv is our media hub - it’s where we house our educational, informational, inspiring content - totally FREE. Organifi is our product line, which is exploding in growth in 2017 alone! Right now, we have our Organifi Green Juice powder, Daily Turmeric capsules, Biotic Balance Probiotics and just launched Organifi Complete Protein. We’ve got a lot on the horizon from Red and Gold Juice to Drinkable Probiotics and some other pretty cool things that I will keep under the radar for now. :) All of which we are really excited about because we know the impact potential they have on the human condition.

People can get stuck before they even get started on their health journey. What is the #1 thing that you would suggest anyone looking to start their journey to better health start doing today? What is the #1 thing you would suggest they stop doing today?

Hands down, the #1 thing I would recommend to anyone starting their journey is this: SHIFT YOUR MINDSET TO WORK FOR YOU! Simple shifts have the potential to create huge results. But you have to allow yourself the space to create reality, right?

The #1 thing I would recommend people STOP doing is focusing on “lack” or something being “too hard”. Instead, shift that to an ABUNDANCE mindset - having all that you need within - and each piece as a blessing. It’s changed my life, truly.

And of course, JUICE, baby! So good.

I have heard that you have certain morning rituals that include reflection and gratitude. Could you share your thoughts on the benefits of creating rituals in your life and also how the habit of

being grateful has impacted your life and overall health?

You can ask anyone on my team, I am not one for schedules and rules. Hahaha. But there are definitely aspects of my life that I stay rooted in daily because of the impact they have had on my day-to-day success.

I have a morning ritual, which you can actually find on Youtube. (click here to view) It helps me to feel grounded and really turn inward to gain absolute clarity on what I am creating in my life.

Daily rituals are so powerful, especially if you are someone that has a hard time with routine (like me)! I actually have a nighttime ritual too, that I don’t do every day, but a few times a week, and it really has helped me to hone in on my vision and remember WHY I do the work I do and the impact I am committed to making in this lifetime.

Health & fitness is not a solo endeavor. How do you feel your environment and the people you surround yourself with impact your journey?

HUGELY! I have always been active, but it wasn’t until I decided that in order to have the life and health that I truly wanted, I needed to really align with that lifestyle in all areas of my life.

Now, I am surrounded by like-minded people on a mission to change the world and it’s incredible. Sure, I have friends that aren’t “gym rats” or “juicers” - green juice, that is! - but we have common ground in our morals and values and that makes all the difference.

Your vibe attracts your tribe so if you want to create more of something in your life - health, happiness, financial freedom, etc. - BE an example of what that looks like and watch as your circles change. It’s amazing what’s possible when we decide what we want and refuse to settle for anything less. Anyone can have it, it’s just a matter of being dedicated and staying the course. It’s not always easy, but once you hit your groove, life begins to really support your efforts.

LOSING WEIGHT ISN'T EASY.You’re bound to occasionally struggle with feelings of deprivation and lack of motivation to stick to your healthy eating plan and fitness regimen. But when you’re making a real effort and not seeing the desired results on the scale, it’s pretty disheartening.

There are lots of possible explanations for why you’re not losing weight. And in many cases, it’s a combination of reasons, all contributing to the problem in their own ways. The reasons can be quite simple and related to your lifestyle choices, but that’s not the only possibility; sometimes, there are medical reasons for your inability to lose weight or for overly slow weight loss.

WHY CAN'T I

LOSEWEIGHT??!!

Page 7: & PASSION - Ask Dr Nandi · juicing and smoothies? Can you expand upon the similarities and differences? To keep it simple, juicing removes the fiber and allows all the nutrients

You skip meals and/or healthy snacks. Cutting out food this way might seem like a great way to reduce your calorie intake, but it usually backfires. You just end up overeat-ing at later meals to make up for low energy and excessive hunger.

You eat more after workouts. Lots of people fall into this trap. They figure that since they’re exercising more, they can eat more. Or, others reward their hard work with a treat. Either way, you easily add back the extra calories you burn—and often you add more.

You aren’t doing cardiovascular/aerobic exercise. Strength training is important, but it doesn’t burn calories like cardio does. Regular aerobic exercise is essential to weight loss.

You aren’t doing strenuous enough cardio. It’s not enough to perform aerobic exercises; to enjoy weight loss and other health benefits, you have to push yourself hard enough to reach and sustain your target heart rate.

You aren’t doing strength training exercises. While cardio is the key to burn-ing calories, weight lifting and/or resist-ance training to build muscle boosts your metabolism. The best weight loss regimens combine aerobic and strength-training exercises.

You’re building muscle. Don’t overlook this possibility. If you’re strength training or otherwise increasing your muscle mass, it can slow weight loss or even lead to a little weight gain, depending on your body condition. Muscle is heavier than fat.

You eat when you aren’t hungry. If you mindlessly eat, like out of boredom or stress or while watching TV, you might eat more than you realize. Pay attention to hunger cues and avoid emotional eating, distracted eating, and other eating habits that undermine weight loss efforts.

You consume more calories than you realize. Losing weight doesn’t require obsessive calorie counting, but you have to be generally aware of how many calories you take in. If you don’t check the calorie content and serving sizes of your food and drink, you may overeat without knowing.

You don’t keep an eye on beverage calories. It’s not uncommon for people to pay attention to food but overlook the calories from drinks. If you have things like juice, soda, sports drinks, energy drinks, or coffee with a lot of sugar, the calories add up quickly.

You’re experiencing a weight loss “pla-teau.” This happens to everyone. Once you start losing weight, it takes fewer and fewer calories to maintain your weight. Also, if you do the same few exercises repeatedly and aren’t building up the duration or intensity, your body adapts and they become less beneficial. It’s important to cycle through many different workouts.

You’re retaining fluids. There are a number of reasons people retain fluids, and water weight can be significant. Excessive salt intake, increased fiber intake without increased water intake, medication or sup-plement side effects, various health condi-tions, and hormone fluctuations are some possible causes.

You take medication or supplements that affect weight. Not only can drugs and supplements trigger fluid retention, many can lead to weight gain or difficulty losing weight. Lots of antidepressants and steroids, as well as oral contraceptives, are common culprits in this regard. Check the listed side effects of anything you take.

You have a health condition that af-fects weight. Similarly, many conditions also prompt weight gain or difficulty los-ing weight. Hypothyroidism, hormonal imbalances, liver or kidney problems, and digestive disorders are some possibilities. And are you sure you’re not pregnant? If you can’t come up with other explanations for your trouble losing weight or if you have other symptoms, talk to your doctor.

You have unrealistic expectations. This isn’t so much for those of you who can’t lose weight as those of you who think you should be losing faster. If you’re trying to lose weight in healthy, sustainable ways, you should only expect to lose about 1 pound per week. If you’re very overweight or newly trying, that might reach about 2 pounds per week. If you are losing 1 to 2 pounds per week, or even less if you’re not too overweight or you’ve been working at it for a while, then you’re doing just fine. Expecting more is unrealistic and it’s not safely achievable.

Strawberries fight illnessYou’ll find it easier for your body to fight illnesses when you eat strawberries. They are full of antioxidants, which fight against the free radicals in your body. Your immune system doesn’t have to tackle them while fighting other illnesses. They are also full of vitamin C, giving your system a boost.

Strawberries fight against cancerSince strawberries are high in antioxidants they help to mop up free radicals that lead to cancer. Eating strawberries can help to reduce your risk of cancer, especially breast, testicular and colon cancer.

Strawberries protect your eyesThe free radicals also damage the cells in the eyes. This can cause eye sight loss through various diseases. The vitamin C in strawberries will help to prevent damage, so your eyes are left healthier and protected from UV damage.

Strawberries keep teeth whiteWhile strawberries can get a bad reputation for the sugars in them, they also have teeth whitening properties. The teeth whitening properties come from the acid within the fruit. However, you will need to eat them in moderation as the acid can also wear through the enamel in the teeth, causing cavities and tooth decay.

Strawberries keep the bowels workingStrawberries are high in fiber offering the benefit of protecting your digestive tract. Fiber can also help to keep stools soft to avoid constipation.

Strawberries keep the wrinkles at bayThe skin needs collagen to help keep its elasticity. Without that, the skin starts to sag and wrinkles are formed. Vitamin C helps to boost the collagen production and strawberries are chock-full of this!

Strawberries aren't just sweet and tasty for ice creams and desserts.

They offer numerous health benefits that you need to take full advantage of right now, whether you eat fresh or frozen.

Gardening your way to good health

Head outside and not only will you have beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables, but you will be doing your body and mind some good!

Gardening is good for self-esteemIn a recent study, researchers found that the group who was asked to garden for 30 minutes as opposed to reading indoors were reported to have better moods than the reading group. The gardening group also was found to have a much lower level of cortisol which is known as the “stress hormone”. Studies have shown that elevated cortisol levels over time have been linked to problems with immune function, obesity, problems with memory and learning and heart disease. Some researchers believe it is more than just the hormones, but the satisfaction of raising a plant to maturity.

Gardening is good for your heartDoctors and researchers suggest that gardening is a great way to achieve moderate intensity exercise. A large study in Europe found that people over the age of 60 who regularly garden reduce their risk of heart attacks and strokes by nearly 30%. Gardening outside in the sun will help you get Vitamin D which helps to reduce the risks of heart disease, osteoporosis and various cancers. Research has shown that people with low levels of Vitamin D have an increased risk of dying of heart disease and stroke.

Gardening is good for

your mental health

Research is now showing that people

who garden tend to have less symptoms of depression.

A study found that people who were diagnosed with depression,

persistent low mood or bipolar 2 disorder, experienced a noticeable improvement in

their depression symptoms after 3 months of gardening just 6 hours a week. Researchers

were pleased with the extended results as the participant’s improved moods continued up to 3 months after the gardening program ended.

In recent years, there is now a field of medicine called “Horticultural Therapy” developing to aid people with psychiatric disorders. Studies have found that gardening done by participants who suffer from dementia or anxiety reduce their agitation which leads to better sleep patterns and a much improved quality of their rest.

Gardening is good for the environmentGardening allows us to plant shrubs, flowers and vegetables that are highly effective air cleaners which absorb carbon dioxide and other air pollutants. These plants release clean oxygen back into the environment. Research has shown that gardening helps to hold soil in place, which reduces erosion and helps to keep sediment out of streams, storm drains and roads. A recent study has also shown that a well designed garden can help to cool your home in the summer and warm it in the winter. Energy efficient landscaping has been found to reduce energy costs by nearly 20%.

Gardening helps to combat stressA recent study found that gardening when used as a coping strategy for stressful life situations diminished anxiety symptoms and led to better sleep.

WHY ARE PUPPY KISSES HARMFUL?Most animal’s mouths are loaded with bacteria and viruses, and man’s best friend is no exception. This is not surprising when you think about some of their habits. They stick their noses just about anywhere and will eat just about anything … including dog droppings. And if you’ve ever seen dogs greet each other, you know their way of saying hello isn’t as sanitary as a kiss on the cheek.

Their muzzles carry all kinds of organisms some of which are beneficial to the dog, but simply not tolerated by humans. So while the presence of this bacteria typically doesn’t impact the dog’s health, it does pose a threat to yours.

WHAT’S THE RISK?A dog’s saliva coming into contact with your skin is not extremely likely to cause any problems as the skin tends to absorb only a small amount. However, saliva and pathogens are much more likely to be absorbed through the mucus membranes of your eyes, nose and mouth. This is why a dog licking your face can lead to serious infection.

Dr. Leni K. Kaplan of Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine advises that bacteria commonly passed from dogs include clostridium, E. coli, salmonella and campylobacter (which can cause severe gastrointestinal disease in humans).

MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus),

gum disease and intestinal parasites such as hookworms and roundworms can also be passed from dog to human.

These infections can cause symptoms including diarrhea, vomiting, coughing, fever, skin lesions, fatigue, abdominal pain and shortness of breath, so you’ll want to carefully consider the risk you’re willing to take for those doggy kisses.

If you’re a dog owner, I’m betting that your pet is an important part of your tribe. Why wouldn’t they be? Dogs give us companionship, friendship, loyalty and unconditional love. You can give all of these things right back to your dog and protect your health at the same time. So keep showing that love and affection in safe ways and save those kisses for your two-legged pack members.

TAKE A PASS ON THE

PUPPYKISSES!!

Cute slobbery kisses from your furry canine friends might melt your

heart, but they can also cause some fairly serious health issues. You might have heard that a dog's mouth is

cleaner than a human's, but that's a big myth!

? Didyou know

The latest

health and

wellness research and

factoids!

1 HOUR OF RUNNING ADDS 7 HOURS TO YOUR LIFE!Running may be the single most effective exercise to increase life expectancy, according to a new review and analysis of past research about exercise and premature death. The new study found that, compared to non-runners, runners tended to live about three additional years, even if they run slowly or sporadically and smoke, drink or are overweight. No other form of exercise that researchers looked at showed comparable impacts on life span.

CAN’T SIT STILL?Maybe you shouldn’t sit still after all … a new study has found that people who fidget burn about 350 calories a day. Yep, you foot tappers, leg shakers and other restless people may annoy those around you … but you’re losing weight while doing it.

IS TRAVEL TO MARS THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH?Scientists at Harvard University and the University of New South Wales believe they have found a molecule that could be important to the health and survival of astronauts traveling to Mars – and could actually reverse aging and keep humans young forever.

Amazingly, the answer is a simple enzyme. So when the scientists had mice drink water with the special enzyme, the cells of the mice stayed young. After one week of this treatment, the treated mice showed improved kidney function, regrown fur, and the ability to run twice as fast as the mice who were untreated.

This is a huge deal for NASA because the astronauts will be exposed to radiation on Mars and potentially at an increased risk for cancer. But if they can drink this special “enzyme elixir” to keep their cells safe, the Mars journey could be a healthy and safe adventure!

LONELY PEOPLE CAN’T SHAKE THAT COLD!According to new research, being lonely can make your cold symptoms worse. Researchers found that being lonely doesn’t necessarily increase your chances of getting a cold in the first place, but being lonely makes the symptoms more severe once you get sick. And, it really doesn’t matter how big your social network is. You could have a ton of friends butif you FEEL lonely, you’re going to have a rougher time when you’re sick. It ends up being more about the quality of your relationships, and not so much about the quantity.

You see it all over the place, from the grocery store shelves to the Huffington Post but is coconut oil really that good for you? Or is it as bad as some people say it is?

The real deal with

coconut oil

3Use coconut oil in moderation while cooking because it's high in saturated fat

3Coconut oil makes a great shaving cream because it moisturizes and protects the skin

3Rub coconut oil into the dry ends of your hair to tame split ends

3Opt for unrefined or virgin coconut oil because no chemicals have been added

3 Apply coconut oil directly to a sunburn to reduce pain and promote healing

PRESCRIPTIONSPARTHA’S

COCONUT OIL IS HIGH IN SATURATED FATNext to palm oil, coconut oil has more saturated fat than anything else people eat, including butter, beef, and even lard. And although fitness magazines and websites have promoted coconut oil, saturated fat is not good for you. One tablespoon of this sweet oil maxes out the daily allowance recommended by the American Heart Association.

That being said, however, saturated fat is known to increase LDL, or bad cholesterol, but coconut oil has been shown to increase your HDL, or good cholesterol as well. Although science still isn’t sure why, many people believe it has to do with the

medium chain triglycerides (MCT) found in coconut oil. When compared to the long chain triglycerides in vegetable oil, dairy, and meat, the triglycerides in coconut oil are more likely to be burned for energy than turned into fat storage.

Instead of thinking about coconut oil as good or bad, think of it as an alternative that can be used in moderation in place of butter or other solid fat products.

COCONUT OIL ALSO MAKES A GREAT MOISTURIZERWhile coconut oil is not the superfood the internet would like you to believe, it does do amazing things outside the kitchen. Due to its low molecular weight, coconut oil

absorbs quickly and easily into the skin, hydrating it at the cellular level. It can be used anywhere on the body, including the face and the dry skin on elbows, knees, and heels. It can even be used to moisturize your scalp and prevent dandruff.

Coconut oil contains three different fatty acids: capric, caprylic, and lauric acid. These have anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, and antimicrobial properties, making coconut oil a great option to put on cold sores or minor abrasions.

Coconut’s role in cooking doesn’t make it a superfood but it’s moisturizing and healing properties make it an incredibly healthy and organic option for skin care.
