Course Objective :
Awareness of the culture ,social and politics dynamics .
Understanding the role that law and legal institutions
play in our live ,culture and Political systems .
Understanding the process of political engagement and
participation and political behavior in general.
To become skilled at political science and international
relation concepts and terminologies.
What is culture :
It is defined as the custom beliefs , social
Forms , and traits that defines a specific
racial , religious or social group .
Culture can be :Material Culture – it is type of culture that are
created by human person or is tangible. Examples
are food , clothing and technology .
Non-material culture – it is a type of culture that are
being learned or observed by human . Examples are
religions , Folk , behavior and customs.
Come from the Latin word “socius” which means
comrade , companion or friend.
pertains to group of individuals involved in social
interaction or sharing the same geographical or social
territory.

Politics :
The word politics come from ancient Greece . Its
root of the word polis ,which began to be used
about 2800 years ago to donate a self –
governing city (city – state ).
POLIS – city-state
POLITES – citizen
POLITIKE – Politics as the art of citizenship
and government
POLITIA –constitution ,rules of politics
POLITEUMA – political community ,all those
residents who have full political rights .
Four categories of residents of the ancient Greek polis :
1. Citizens with full legal and political rights.
Adult free men born legitimately of citizen parents . They had
the right to vote , be elected in to office, bear arms, and the
obligation to serve when at war.
2. Citizens with legal rights but no political rights.
Woman and underage children, whose political rights and
interests were represented by the adult male relatives.
3. Foreigners (citizens of other city states)
Full legal rights, but no political right. Could not vote, could not
be elected to office, could not bear arms and could not serve
in war. Subject to taxation.
4.Slave
Property of their owner, any privileges depend on owner's will.
Political system is the institution that meets the
society„s needs for protection from external
enemies , resolutions if group differences , and
definition an internal order , pursuit of social goal.
Political system of a country should be design to
give people strong voice to determine what their
government should do .
