_ _ _ nir ® Technology Overview

• Only AdPhos has a peak irradiation wavelength of .8 µm– Most other inkjet drying systems use straight infrared at 2 µm and

above. – Other systems using _ _ _ nir (NearInfraRed) technology are at 1.2

µm.

_ _ _ nir ® Technology Overview

_ _ _ nir ® (NearInfraRed) technology enables application of the highest energy quantities on the greatest diversity of substrates

Absorption/Transmission of Energy for Inkjet Applications

• Black ink absorbs energy across all wavelengths • _ _ _ nir applies more energy to the ink and less to white paper

compared to traditional _ _ _ ir

Absorption/Transmission of Energy for Inkjet Applications

Paper Paper

Mailbase or Reflector

_ _ _ nir Technology Infrared Technology0.8 µm = 3500K >1.5 µm = 2500K

• NIR radiation travels through substrates, reflects off of the mailbase or reflector material and dries the ink from top and bottom

• IR radiation dries via a “top down” approach. The ink and paper are equally heated from the top only.

• Greater production speeds and throughput– Due to the greater absorption of energy by the ink and not

the substrates, the inks dry approx. 30% faster and more thoroughly than with conventional infrared technology.

– Reduced heating of substrates results in less paper curl and improves substrate handling.

– Precise energy control / Tool-less lamp replacement• Ability to inkjet on greater variety of substrates

– Faster and more thorough drying expands the substrate space printers can image.

• One customer expanded their number of coated substrates they were able to print and dry on from 6 to over 30

• With the proper ink formulatuion (ie. Flexprint Aqueous) customers can print and dry at full production speeds on even the most challenging of substrates – even on some plastic card and UV overcoated materials.

• Reduced operating cost– _ _ _nir® requires approx 30% less power than IR– Patented reflector system reflects >98% of the energy

toward where it is needed.
