Warnings against vain worship: Matt. 6:7; “"And when you are praying, do not use
meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.”
Isa. 29:13; “Then the Lord said, "Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,” Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; And the wisdom of their wise men will perish, And the discernment of their discerning men will be concealed.”

![Page 5: Matt. 6:7; “"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070413/5697bfca1a28abf838ca9489/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
The Lord’s Supper Meal
We remember the death of Jesus Christ by partaking of the Lord’s gr. “deipnon” (“supper” “feast” “banquet”) (1 Cor. 11:20)
Instituted during another meal: The Passover meal (Luke 22:8) A meal that reminded of the Freedom from
Egyptian bondage Lord’s Supper reminds us of the freedom
now possible from sin.

The Lord’s Supper Meal
Meals consist of food and drink. Two elements we need to sustain life.
Observing the Lord’s supper each week reminds us that Jesus is our spiritual food. John 6:51-58.
Clarification: These emblems are representatives and not sacraments.

Lord’s Supper and Sacrifice:
In the OT Sacrifice was a reminder of sin Heb. 10:1-4 ▪ Day of atonement▪ Reminded that they still needed a savior
Heb. 10:10-18;▪ We now have a reminder that we have
actually been forgiven.
![Page 8: Matt. 6:7; “"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070413/5697bfca1a28abf838ca9489/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Lord’s Supper and Sacrifice:
Eating Sacrifices: Many sacrifices that were eaten (Deut.
12:6-7, 17-18 ) Passover sacrifice eaten. (Exod. 12:8)▪ Christ is our passover (1 Cor. 5:7)
In the OT The blood was always poured out. ▪ Life in the blood and given to the altar for
atonement (Lev. 17:11)▪ In The NT we drink the blood of our sacrifice!!!
![Page 9: Matt. 6:7; “"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070413/5697bfca1a28abf838ca9489/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
The Evangelistic Nature of the Lord’s Supper
A memorial can also serve as a teacher!!!
Joshua 4:1-7 1 Cor. 11:26 we “proclaim the Lord’s
death…” We remember and reflect but we are
also able to teach. Ex. Funerals.
![Page 10: Matt. 6:7; “"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070413/5697bfca1a28abf838ca9489/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
A remeberance of Victory!!! Passover
The Passover was not a depressing meal. The songs attributed to being sung during the
Passover were songs of jubilation and victory. ▪ “Hallel Psalms” (113-118)
The Lord’s supper We typically reflect on the great price paid. Let us remember as well the great victory that this
accomplished. (1 Cor. 15:53-57) This foreshadows the final and jubilation of the
wedding feast where the church and lamb are united (rev. 19:9)
