Forms of Shirk in Modern Times

❶ To depend on objects. You may depend on your cell phone, your car, wiziq, etc. When you take the means, don’t depend on them. Think of every action before you do it, because shirk is like a spiders web.

❷ To believe that a ring or bracelet or stone, precious and semiprecious, depending on the horoscope, will give you power, or energy, is shirk. If you believe these things have power, you are committing major shirk, and if you believe it is a means, this is minor shirk, because it is not an authentic means. You may wear one of these objects as a means, but slowly begin to rely on it, when you see results, which are illusions from the shaitan.

❸ Meditation. Thinking you can be one with the universe, connect with your mind, reiki. They may believe they can gain energy in this way, move things, levitate. This is major shirk. The problem is when the shaitan makes these things work, so that the people sink deeper and deeper into the shirk. The shaitan will change the names, so you must have the concept clear in your mind.

Going to a hypnotist for treatment is also shirk. When you are in a hypnotic trance, you don’t know how the hypnotist can reprogramme your mind. It is better to struggle in life, than go for a quick fix. A very hidden aspect can also be incarnation.

❹ Neuro-linguistic programming or NLP is the process to programme the mind to change behaviour patterns, carry out various tasks, attaining success, overcoming depression, even the common cold, etc.. This involves listening to chants and sounds to enter a trance. These practices look very technical, but they are shirk, and very dangerous.

❺ Self Confidence. When you rely on your own power, letting out the monster inside you, your own energy. They will be instructed to repeat a mantra, again and again. This is like a philosophy. Feng shui, which involves placing objects in certain positions, to get energy. This shirk is all about energy and power.

❻ Fortune telling. The look of this has changed, but the concept remains. So now instead of reading palms and peering into crystal balls, we see people reading coffee grounds and tea leaves, and using colours, stones and magnets for healing. They deal with the shayateen in very modern ways. This includes numerology, face reading, using the hand writing to describe characters. They will also indulge in guessing games, the senses. It is all about the temptation to know the unseen, the future. When these guesses are correct, because of the shaitan, they sink deeper in the quagmire. So they will use charms for protection and good luck, touch wood when they say something important.

❼ Going to magicians is very clear shirk. This includes watching magic shows intently.

❽ To believe that the means can cause things to change by their power, is shirk. So they will believe that an accident caused a person to die, or a medicine cured a sickness. Take the means, but don’t give them any power.
