INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this publication is to list research projects and
research reports in the field of vocational education conducted in New
Jersey or concerning New Jersey.
Included are any announced research projects even though they are
not completed. When possible the written report was noted. Special
effort was made to list the availability of such written reports. Excluded
are (1) annual reports, training conference reports and program guides
unless new research was presented ;. and (2) research resulting in curriculum
publications, as listed in Curriculum Materials of the Division of Vocational
Education's Curriculum Laboratory.
This volume is organized in a classified format according to general
and more specific subject headings. Under a specific subject heading, the
items are listed alphabetically by author. Each item has been assigned a
cumulative entry number to permit efficient use of the subject index and
author-- agency index.
The Table of Contents displays the classification scheme in both an
abbreviated form and in a detailed form, A careful reading of these
outlines should save the user much time.
Each entry includes a cumulative entry number, author, and title. When
a research report is available, the following information is provided:
publication information, pagination, the availability of the report,
and, when necessary, an annotation.
Foreword
Research is the cutting edge of vocational education in
New Jersey. It provides us with information and insights
essential to providing persons of all ages in all communities
in New Jersey with ready access to vocational training or retraining
which is of high quality, which is realistic in the light of actual
or anticipated opportunities for gainful employment, and which is
suited to their needs, interests, and ability to benefit from
such training,
New Jersey Vocational-Technical personnel will find this listing
of New Jersey research efforts valuable and convenient.
Many of the items listed can be found in the Occupational Research
Development Resource Center, where a collection of over ten thousand
source materials is now available to vocational-technical education
personnel and other interested persons.
ROBERT M. WORTHINGTONAssistant Commissioner of Education
Preface
This first attempt to compile a record of New Jersey vocational-
technical education research under one cover is designed to identify
researchers, specific research reports, institutional sponsors of
research, and needed fields of research. Research activity in this
field may be made more efficient, more economical, more visible, and
more likely to be utilized through the use of such a vehicle of
communication.
The Introduction and Table of Contents provide helpful informa-
tion for using this publication. Subject and author indexes provide
immediate access to specific items of research. Fields of research
can best be approached through the Table of Contents, either in its
abbreviated form or its detailed form.
Compiler of this project was Edwin York, Coordinator of the
Occupational Research Development Resource Center. This product
of the Bureau of Occupational Research Development: is one of a
growing number of basic tools to aid researchers in vocational
education in New Jersey; others already available are Guidelines ,or
the Preparation of Proposals for Research, Training, Experimental, and
Exemplary Programs in Vocational Education and Vocational Education
Research Topics List by Po-yen Koo, and The 1968-1969 Source Book of
Research and Related Titles by Rudolph Girandola and Aldora Jackson.
Grateful appreciation is extended to the many persons whose assistance
made this inventory of research possible. Special commendation must go
to the following institutions which have shown leadership in publishing
lists of related research: Montclair State College for its Research
Abstracts published since 1956 ; the New Jersey Department of Institutions
and Agencies for its research in New Jersey Institutions and Agencies :
Notifications, Aril 1957 to February 1968; Paterson State College for
its Publications and Artistic Productions of Paterson State College
Faculty since 1960; Rutgers' Bureau of Governmental Research for its
Social Science Research Inventory published since 1964 , and Princeton
University's Industrial Relations Section for its annual publications list.
Comments and suggestions concerning this publication are invited,
