Instruction

+Teamwork!
We need to build our curriculum together in order to be successful!
+Teamwork
Plan with each other which literacy skills each
partner will teach so as to use limited time wisely.
Make sure the literacy block is divided evenly
between English and the target language.
Integrate science topics into lessons when possible.
Connect appropriate topic ideas to science when
possible.
Use writing tasks for content areas and topics.
+IntegrationDo what you are already doing - integrate -
BUT MORE! You have less time than ever before!
Shared Reading: Read books based on the science and math topics needing to be taught or reinforced.
Writing : “Readworks” or other programs that improve writing while talking about science or math.
Get creative, but ALWAYS cover multiple concepts in one lesson. You don’t have the time!

+Trust
“Speed happens when people truly trust each other”.
-Edward Marshall
+Trust
Trust is your relationship to the unknown when you can't control; and you can't control everything.
+TrustIt's not all or none. It is a slow and
steady practice of learning about the capacity of the world, and it’s worth it to keep trying, and it’s not easy.
+Trust
Trust is like invisible hands we stretch out to into the world,
looking for someone to hold on to as we walk into the future.

+How to Build Curriculum
Lesson plan together...
Rocks - Science
Algebra - Math
+Scope & Sequence
Year long plan
Target language has a plan and English teacher has a plan
Compare plans and try to make them uniform
Be flexible: students may need more or less instruction and concept mastery
Collaborate together and have a similar scope and sequence

+Assessment
Make sure all testing is being done with both classes and complete.
District and State Tests are in English.
Correct and enter grades together.
(This helps both teachers understand each student’s progress.)
You have double the paper work, so consider strategies that involve the students to correct
instead of doing it ALL yourself !
+Team Curriculum CollaborationInvolve other teachers in your grade level.
Collaborate at the beginning and end of the year with teachers across grade
levels.
+Take Away
“Double Dip”
“Biggest Bang For Your
Buck”
“Be On the Same Page”
“Front Load”
