iDEA – The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award

What is iDEA?

iDEA (the Duke of York’s Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award) is a programme that helps you develop digital and enterprise skills for free. Through our series of online challenges and events, you can win career-enhancing badges, unlock new opportunities and, ultimately, gain industry recognised awards that help you stand out from the crowd.

Discover skills you never knew you had and hone the ones you've already got by taking our online challenges. The challenges are split into four main categories, each with its own series of badges to be won - citizen, worker, maker and entrepreneur. As well as being fun, these badges will help you show off what you've learned and could, when the time comes, help you land the job you want.

When you've taken enough badges in each of the categories, you can gain the iDEA Bronze Award - a recognised symbol of your hard work, determination and skill. In time, you'll be able to take new challenges and badges that will unlock a Silver Award (from later in 2018) and then, the ultimate prize, the iDEA Gold Award (from 2019). iDEA aspires to be the digital and enterprise equivalent of The Duke of Edinburgh Award.

iDEA is free and anyone can do it on any device.

How will it benefit me?

Digital Skills are essential for life and in any job. This programme will provide recognition of your digital literacy knowledge. As well as helping on a day to day basis, the awards will be a great addition to your CV when applying for future job roles.

How do I get started?

Sign up to iDEA at www.idea.org.uk. You just need to enter an email, create a password, come up with a nickname and select your age range, click register and you are in!

Getting my #GMDigital badge

Greater Manchester, working alongside iDEA, has created a #GMDigital badge worth 2 points towards your Bronze Award.

You can register this by clicking ‘HAVE A BADGE CODE?’ at the top of the page and entering the code GMDIGI161 in the pop up box.

You can redeem more than 1 badge code, so if your organisation or local area has another one you can use both!

Information for Businesses

Trafford Council’s Employer Grant Scheme Through the Employer Grant scheme, businesses offering four weeks work experience,

a traineeship, apprenticeship or job to a 16-25 year-old in Trafford and providing travel

and lunch expenses, could receive a £500 grant.

Through the scheme, there is also specific emphasis on prioritising young people who

currently face significant disadvantages trying to enter the world of work, including those

in care or young people with disabilities.

The aim is to introduce young people to local employers and help them gain confidence and new skills to move

forward in their careers.

The grant is for:

Employers who take on a young person from Trafford aged 16-25 years into work experience, a

traineeship or an apprenticeship

The grant is targeted to support young people from a priority group (Looked after young people, Care

leavers, NEETs, young people with disabilities, ex-offenders, Stronger Families or young people on the

Talent Match programme)

The work experience needs to be at least 4 weeks duration (although this doesn’t need to be all at the

same time)

Employers can claim up to a maximum of £1000 if they offer two opportunities (e.g. work experience

followed by a traineeship or an apprenticeship)

The grant is paid direct to the employer once the placement is agreed

The employer pays lunch and travelling expenses for the young person for the duration of the placement

Support with Maths, English or IT will be available for the young person through Trafford College

In addition, there will be a further £500 grant available to businesses who take the young person on after the four

week period.

Support for the young people throughout the four weeks and beyond will be provided by Trafford College.

Businesses wanting further details about the Trafford Employer Grant scheme can contact the Council's Strategic Growth Team on 0161 912 4176 or email [email protected]
