INTRODUCTIONApplied Driving Techniques are a recognised global leader of driver and fleet safety management services. Founded in the UK, our business has grown exponentially as a result of our experience, knowledge and passion for all we do. Our expanding, global customer base has led to the establishment of operations in North America and Australasia. This success is largely attributed to our experienced team and the contribution of our alliance partners. We are proud of the long-term relationships we hold with our blue-chip clients that operate across most industry sectors. We believe in offering a fully comprehensive range of driver and fleet safety management services that remain up-to-date with international best practice standards.

UK legislation makes protecting employees who are driving for work a business critical activityThe Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 requires employers to ensure the health and safety of their employees when at work. This includes the time when they are driving at work, whether this is in a company or hired vehicle, or in the employee’s own vehicle. Employers have a responsibility to take all reasonable steps to manage these risks and do everything reasonably practicable to protect people from harm in the same way as they would in the workplace. Practical considerations should include the driver, vehicle and journey. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require every employer to carry out an assessment of the risks to the health and safety of their employees, or themselves, while they are at work, and to other people who may be affected by their work activities. This includes any driving activity on the road. The regulations require the risk assessment to be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains valid. Employers should consider the risks to employees on the road in the same way as for those in a workplace. UK businesses have no choice. Implementing a driver and fleet safety management system is essential.

A Paradigm Shift in Global Fleet and Supply Chain Safety: Intro-ducing a Comprehensive Safety and Compliance Solution De-signed to Protect and Respect DriversUnique smart phone-enabled solution uses A.I. to deliver targeted training solutions di-rectly to drivers

Hampshire, U.K. / New Jersey, USA – Applied Driving Techniques (ADT) and Sfara, Inc. introduce a paradigm shift in fleet telematics, creating a comprehensive driver safety solution that can solve driver behavioural problems rather than just diagnose them.

Traditional Fleet products send an overwhelming amount of data to teams of Fleet Managers to be deciphered through lengthy reports that list problems. The Fleet Managers are left to figure out the solution and deliver it to the driver, a time-consuming and sometimes adversarial task that does nothing to foster positive driver relationships.

“All these factors have really made us passionate about integrating privacy and giving driver’s respect as professionals,” said Rocco Tricarico, CMO of Sfara. “Why allow face tracking cameras as a normal practice when there is now a more intelligent alternative that deploys without hardware installs and even has lower recurring costs?”Driver respect has become a key issue in employee-employer relationships which is impacting driver retention and performance. A chief aspect of driver respect relates to privacy. Nearly all traditional fleet products have practices that create concerns for drivers given they transmit and store every

BREAKING NEWS

ADT and Sfara have partnered to create a new solution that solves these challenges with innovative features such as Triggered Training™. Triggered Training uses proprietary technology via the Sfara Companion smart phone application to detect risky driver behaviours, such as phone handling, and provide a real-time audio alert to the driver. Additionally, the application also communicates these “events” to ADT’s system which determines patterns and, when warranted, sends specific messages or e-training modules to the driver from its library after the drive. Simply put, this revolutionary partnership delivers a risk mitigating solution to the driver faster than traditional fleet telematics products deliver the problem to the Fleet Manager. As such this allows the Fleet Manager to be more hands-off with drivers about their driving behaviours until they are notified by ADT of an ongoing risk that has persisted despite remediation efforts.

“One of the lingering challenges over the last fifteen years with traditional driver safety offerings is that those products simply identify problems, they don’t help solve them. This leaves the Fleet Manager with the daunting challenge of driver interdiction, training delivery and performance monitoring. Sfara and ADT have integrated their complementary technologies to close this gap.” said Erik Goldman, CEO of Sfara.

“As much as vehicle safety technology has changed over the years, the single biggest in-vehicle determinant of safety is still the driver. Our intelligent e-training programme is proven to reduce collision rates and insurance premiums, while also increasing productivity. And that is without fleet manager intervention. Often, the problem is fixed before they even know it exists,” says Andy Phillips, Global Managing Partner with Applied Driving Techniques.

trackable and measurable move. Recently, the highest profile privacy issue is in-cab cameras, which have enraged drivers about the lack of respect, causing an industry with an already low employment pool to have high turnover rates and lower job satisfaction.

To solve this need ADT and Sfara now offer a comprehensive fleet driver safety and compliance solution that respects the drivers. It has built-in safeguards that make drivers more comfortable with the technology, hence improving adoption rates and morale. The solution’s underlying approach to managing driver performance and behaviour is based on the principles of “Just Culture”.

Another benefit to drivers comes from Sfara’s patented on-device data processing, thereby eliminating the need for an always-on tracking stream that is transmitted for review and storage. Only the relevant events are reported, complying with GDPR data minimisation. Drivers may also clock-out at the end of the day by going “incognito”; if a trip transitions into a taxi, ride share or other method of travel, “drivers” can mark a trip as “non-scorable” ensuring that no data is sent to employers during this period. This control of data flow is in the hands of the end-user.

Applied Driving and Sfara’s A.I. based Driver Analytics advances Driver Safety and Road SafetyThe result offers a groundbreaking solution to Enterprise, 3PL and e-commerce firms operating global fleets such as Amazon, Federal Express, Kuhne & Nagel, Schneider, Walmart and Uber Freight and their ecosystems partners in Global Fleet Management. The ADT-Sfara partnership creates a completely new comprehensive global safety and emergency response solution that is complimented by recent Sfara announcements. Sfara’s global partnership with Bosch enables Emergency Road and Emergency Management Safety on highways, even multi-modal and complex transportation environments. Additionally, Sfara’s partnership with Deutsche Telekom’s wholly owned subsidiary MobiledgeX, is creating next generation low-latency edge solutions which will save and protect lives on the world’s roadways for decades to come.

OUR VISION OUR MISSION

We want a world that sees fatal traffic incidents as ancient history; where no life is needlessly lost on our roads

To work with progressive organisations in negating the risks their drivers are exposed to on a day-to-day basis

Together, we can make the roads safer

These statistics from the Department of Transport (DtF) makes driving the most dangerous activity your employees will ever typically undertake. According to the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), 6 out of 10 work-related deaths are caused by driving and ETSC attribute 40% of road deaths in Europe to work-related driving.

Driving on business in the UK accounts for, on average, 20 deaths and 250 serious injuries per week

RISKMAPP

Our services are informed by UK legislation and international best practice, with individual tailoring available to suit the needs of our clients

DRIVER RISKASSESSMENTSOur strategy is based on formulating a detailed understanding of the risk factors drivers are exposed to on an individual level. The risk assessment, which takes around 10 minutes to complete, covers the three fundamental areas of fleet safety: the driver, the journey and the vehicle. After completion of the online questionnaire, drivers are assigned an individual risk rating. We analyse both the individual and collective results and, where applicable, make recommendations for targeted interventions for higher risk drivers. Our risk assessments are available in multiple languages.

Our unique, web-based portal, Riskmapp, brings together our client services, providing instant access to essential fleet data, analysis and documentation. Organisations using our managed solutions have real-time access, online visibility and control of related information and documentation. The platform includes advanced reporting features where superusers can view, download and share risk and fleet management overviews. Risk assessment, licence checking and driver training and are easily accessible by drivers. Riskmapp makes fleet compliance and risk management easy with its increasingly integrated features. Our continual updates demonstrate our investment in enhancing our technology. We have introduced the document management tool, enabling drivers a dashboard to monitor their own progression. Motoring certificates, licence forms and other documentation can be quickly uploaded directly onto the system, enabling easy access to essential documentation for new starters.

CORE SERVICESLICENCE CHECKINGEnsuring your employees are legally entitled to drive their vehicles for business is an essential part of risk management. As is monitoring for any high-risk driving infringements. We have vast experience in running full licence checking both in the UK and internationally. We offer full DVLA checking via direct link as well as DVA checks. Drivers enter licence information and provide consent online via our Riskmapp portal. Once the check is completed, organisations’ management teams can view necessary information through Riskmapp. We inform key contacts of any licence that is not full and current, and identify training opportunities for potential high-risk drivers from their relevant convictions.

BLENDED LEARNINGOur multi-national, online training modules are tailor-made to your organisation’s specific needs and drivers’ risks. We offer a comprehensive range of online training, designed specifically to engage participants and enhance their learning. The short modules feature interactive elements and hard-hitting videos to encourage a change of attitude and behaviour when driving. Targeted training lowers driver risk and expands their knowledge. Our training modules are assigned in response to individual risk assessments, telematics data feeds and collision reports to ensure an individual-specific courses are issued, rather than the increased cost of standardised modules for all.

FLEET SAFETY MANAGEMENT REVIEWWe know that knowledge is the most powerful tool when it comes to improving your fleet’s safety. Our service works by building a detailed understanding of the risks your fleet and drivers face. We measure your performance and safety culture against international best practice standards. Acting as a benchmark, we assess your pre-existing systems, covering: assessment, implementation, maintenance and monitoring. The fleet review provides comprehensive insight for organisations from which effective solutions can be implemented. This allows management teams to make well-informed investment decisions.

GREY FLEET MANAGEMENTGrey fleet is the name given to employees who drive their own vehicle for work-related journeys. In the UK, there is no distinction made between the grey fleet and an in-house company car and van fleet. As such, they should be monitored with as much scrutiny as the company fleet. Our management service ensures that your grey fleet remains compliant to UK legislation. This includes checking motor insurance, MOT/NCT, road tax and service history. Additionally, we can check driver compliance to policy limitations such as age restrictions or maximum CO2 emissions.

IN-VEHICLE TRAININGDramatically reduce your high-risk drivers with our bespoke, in-vehicle training programmes. We operate in connection with specialised training partners around the world to offer a variety of training courses and workshops specific to individual driver needs. Our trainers have a range of highly professional backgrounds, including police and ex-military personnel. In-vehicle training is proven to enhance driver behaviour, and significant risk reductions are achieved when used in association with our e-training modules. Popular in-vehicle training courses include: Defensive Driving; Economy Driving; Van Familiarisation; Trailer Towing and 4-x-4/Off-Road Driving.

MANAGEMENT & CONSULTINGWe recognise that organisations seek to minimise administrative resources and concentrate on their core functions. As a result, we are increasingly being asked to support and collaborate with our customers in developing or refining their driver and fleet safety management systems. A number of these collaborations have been recognised through receipt of industry awards, and involve programmes that have been implemented across 47,000 drivers worldwide.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CHECKSWe provide a full range of background screening services for organisations within any particular jurisdiction. This is offered through our international partners that run state-of-the-art pre-employment checks around the globe. Without the benefit of an effective and appropriate employee screening regime, organisations are exposing themselves to potential risk. This could be drivers - employees and contractors - with an unsatisfactory employment history, a lapsed driving licence or inappropriate police/security records.

CORE SERVICESAPPLIED COMPANIONApplied Companion is the latest innovation in Applied Driving Techniques’ driver safety and performance solution.

Applied Companion is powered by Sfara and targets at-risk driver behaviour and performance as it occurs.

The innovative service is a giant leap forward in the driver safety and performance industry. It is not a telematics or tracking service; it is a fully mobile solution.

Mobility and the way people travel is changing. The rise of Uber, car shares and rent-a-cars is making traditional telematics an impractical tool. The Applied Companion app goes with you, however you travel.

Everything starts from the app. Applied Companion uses a combination of mobile phone sensors, proprietary algorithms and artificial intelligence to detect at-risk driving behaviours and patterns.

Once at-risk driving events have been detected, Triggered Training and Safety Messaging is initiated.

Safety Messaging is the common first step to mitigating future at-risk behaviour. Drivers receive safety messages tailored to address the specific events we have identified.

Triggered Training works to improve the at-risk behaviour identified by Applied Companion’s AI. Relevant online training modules are sent directly to driver.

After completing Triggered Training, the occurrence of at-risk events is dramatically reduced with overall driving behaviour improved.

MANAGEMENT COACHINGOur vast experience has shown that client leadership teams often benefit from external coaching around safety culture and influencing behaviour. We work closely with organisations to offer the most beneficial coaching services, tailored to individual requirements. We have specialists on hand to provide a variety of management coaching courses. These include change management, leadership and the human factor. By working together, we can ensure a smooth implementation of new systems, leaving both managers and employees better equipped to handle any potential and necessary driver safety changes.

FAIR & JUST CULTUREOur experience has shown that an organisation’s safety culture dramatically impacts their driver safety and performance outcomes. Clients with a fair and just culture achieve substantially more effective results than those without. With this knowledge, we have experienced trainers on hand to help you implement and sustain a revolutionised safety culture. Fair and just culture encourages a free and open environment and provides focus upon coaching and honesty at all levels. It centres on the system design, management of risks and behavioural choices. We work together with clients to support them obtain and sustain a fair and just culture.
