Asia stands out, making up 40% of our global order book now. Our presence on the continent is growing all the time, to give you an example, once unthinkable, ATR is now in Japan. From the end of next year, the first of three -600s leased to regional Japanese carrier Link will go into service. With a population of 120

But it’s not just Asia where we are expanding our presence. Exciting things are happening elsewhere like the Pacific region too. Our long standing New Zealand client, ANZ has just taken delivery of its first -600 in the livery of its awesome All Blacks rugby team. And that hard work continues with a series of regional operators conferences worldwide to see how we can continue to grow together.

After the series of Operators Conference held in Toulouse and Rio de Janeiro we are once again inviting our Operators and Suppliers to the last of this 12th Cycle of Operators Conference that will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in December br inging together the Asian ATR Communit y. December will also be the month of the grand opening of ATR Eastern Support Training Center that will open its doors in Singapore.

The Italian carrier back to turboprops to find profitability

The economic crisis worldwide hit the airline industry hard but the prestigious Italian national carrier Alitalia has been making remar-kable efforts since 2009 within the new setup Alitalia C.A.I. (Compa-gnia Aerea Italiana) and ATR will also play its part. The Italian carrier has chosen to reintroduce in its fleet cleaner and more fue l efficient aircraft and turned to ATR to reach those goals. For both Alitalia and ATR it’s a win-win situation. Alitalia can reduce its costs and ATR is especially proud to be associated again with the world renowned Italian carrier.

ATR is of course also a Franco-Italian company and Italy is where much of its aircraft manufacturing’s based, so the renewed relationship has extra value. In the short term, two 72-500s are starting services from two cities, Ancona and Pisa to

more than 200 major components for the LRU repair and standard exchange service. Imagine how much time would be taken up by each airline if it has to negotiate with each supplier. Thanks to the GMA they don’t have to contact the supplier. Any time an issue comes up; all they have to do is call ATR. Its one single channel and ATR does the rest. In addition, with the entry into service of the -600, the GMA is aiming to provide the operators with a dedicated service based on the unique capability deve-loped by ATR to design the new avionic system. As well, a significant investment in terms of spares is already launched. The GMA is a highly flexible program and adapted to each single operator’s requirements. As well as including the monthly cost for maintenance and repairs, operators can sign up for addi-tional services including engineering

down into a monthly pay-by-the-hour scheme so there are no unwelcome surprises. Carriers know exactly how much it will cost them to repair and main-tain their aircraft in the long term, which means they can plan their own budgets accordingly. The typical kind of services that are covered by GMAs include main base stock availability, LRU repair and standard exchange, maintenance for propellers, engines, landing gear and aircraft airframe. The GMA services are highly market competitive and enable operators to reduce their investment costs thanks to both on-site and on-call spares availability. Less storage space and manpower translates into far lower running costs while at the same time having very rapid access to spares at ATR warehouses around the world. There are three major regional ware-houses known as pools in Kuala Lumpur, Miami and Paris. ATR is staffed 24/7 and guarantees spares will reach their GMA operators within 24 hours.GMA operators have access to a network of repair stores around the world that have received the highest grading and seal of approval from ATR directly.GMA is peace of mind thanks to the easy administration. To give an example, standard GMA coverage would include

Airline operators are in the business of keeping their planes in the air and as full to capacity as possible in order to be profitable. They don’t want to worry about cumbersome but vital issues like maintenance and spare parts. Thanks to ATR’s unique Global Mainte-nance Agreements, operators focus on what they do best and let ATR take the strain with all the rest.In general, ATR offers a renewable five year GMA contract with an operator. It means that operators know exactly how much they will spend on repairs on maintenance as it’s all calculated in advance based on the flying hours of each of its aircraft. That means costs for the airlines break

Through this innovative package, 37 operators have now signed GMAs and that includes more than 300 ATR turbo-props worldwide. Thanks to 30 years

in the business ATR knows operators needs. For others, keen to know more, their first port of call is ATR’s Customer Services department.

ATR’s biggest operator worldwide, the Brazilian carrier TRIP Linhas Aéreas signed a five year GMA with ATR in November 2010.The company said it shopped around before doing a deal with ATR and what sealed it for them was the idea of quality of service and peace of mind.Evandro Braga de Oliveira, VP, Management and Quality at TRIP told ATReview that with the GMA, his airline has access to the best maintenance and repair shops worldwide with the ATR seal of approval. On top of that rather than having to deal directly with the suppliers, ATR acts as a one stop shop, troubleshooting on behalf of the client. The GMA also means the airline knows how much its maintenance costs will be, so TRIP can make long term budget projections. Since the GMA is with the manufacturer, one factor that can’t be underlined enough is trust. There is peace of mind knowing you have a maintenance agreement with the company you bought the plane from.TRIP is currently merging with another Brazilian carrier Azul which is also an ATR operator and GMA member too.In fact as both companies become one, they are also keen to merge their GMAs and say they are keen to extend it.

jets which are far more expensive to run and too big for current market conditions - so the airline has been flying with lots of expen-sive empty seats. The ATR-72 is the right fit for the routes they will be serving. The ATR is not just cost effective in the air, its lighter build means landing and take-off costs are far lower than those of jets. The envi-ronmental credentials of the ATR turboprop also play a key role. Clemente Affinito, ATR Vice-Presi-dent, Sales for Europe also points out Alitalia is keen to promote the green features of the turboprop and that will also go down well with potential passengers in the pros perous regions of Tuscany where green issues are very important.

At the moment Alitalia is planning to f ly with i ts ATRs on above mentioned domestic routes sub-contracted to Romanian carrier Carpatair, which also happens to be a new ATR operator. However ATR believes Alitalia could require up to 15 turboprops over the next three years to replace thirsty planes on regional routes. Those destina-tions under consideration span from Naples to Bolzano as well as Italian islands. Regional routes do not necessarily mean domestic services only. Alitalia is also weighing up using the ATR on European short sectors including between Nice and Rome. A newly conf ident A l i ta l ia in partnership with ATR clearly makes a lot of business sense.

A season of Regional Operators Conferences...

Singapore Training Center

One of the keys to ATR’s success is listening to its customers needs, that’s why for a number of years the company has put huge importance on Operators Conferences bringing together its customers and suppliers. ATR is therefore hosting three Regional Operators Conferences this year.

The first in Toulouse brought together close to 50 operators as well as nearly 40 suppliers. The meetings underline the company’s ambition to gather all its key partners to find new ways of working together to improve customer and service support.

ATR places huge impor tance on operators being able to talk to each other and to suppliers and arranges impor tan t d i rec t face to face m e e t i n g s b e t w e e n t h e m a t the Regional Operators Conferences. ATR believes that vibrant and open e x c h a n g e s p r o v i d e s g r e a t e r u n d e r s t a n d i n g o f eve r yo n e ’s requirements and generates fresh ideas because ATR i s a lways looking for better solutions for the future.

The other two regional operators conferences are being held in Rio de Janeiro in November bringing together all partners in North and South America and the Caribbean and Kuala Lumpur in December for all Asian and Pacific partners.

ATR spares no effort as it brings together its clients and suppliers to work even better and more efficiently.

Last May you will remember I was handed over to Air Nostrum at a big cere-mony at ATR’s head quarters in Toulouse. It was a special event as I was officially the 1000th turboprop to be delivered by ATR since the company was created thirty years ago. It was a very proud moment for everyone.Well, the last six months have certainly been busy. As you know I was brought in to Air Nostrum to replace my older cousins the 72-500s in its fleet and I went into commercial service on May 12 on a domestic flight between Valencia and Malaga. I am really lucky as I get to do some great trips; my regular routes are between Melilla, Malaga and Madrid, with some island hopping in the Balearic Islands. I know my bosses are really happy with my performance because they were looking for a turboprop that fit its short haul, high

frequency markets while keeping the costs to a minimum and me without boasting too much, being a brand new -600, I get the job done better than any other comparable aircraft.I know the crew and passengers who fly with me are really happy too. The passengers often remark how much they like the new interior look and comfort of the Giugiaro-designed seats I have been equipped with, and others say how much they appreciate the LED lighting. You could say I really look after my passengers.Anyway that’s all for now, I have some passengers to get on their way… hopefully you will get a chance to take a trip with me soon whether it be business or pleasure.Got to go now, but I will keep you posted on my latest adventures.www.youtube.com/ATRbroadcast

Taking into account that on average, each operator trains 8 to 10 pilots per turboprop, that translates into more than 1000 pilots per year for Singapore training facility.Airlines will be able to make subs-tantial savings in both costs and time by sending pilots to be trained directly in Singapore rather than to ATR’s headquarters in Toulouse. ATR expects airlines from across Asia and Australia to use the new facilities. The benefit of creating regional f l ight Training Centers is over-whelming. It’s not just about cost savings. Airlines can train their flight crews a lot quicker too as they don’t have to wait for training slots to open up.The proof that the regional Training Centers are popular is that since

Filippo Bagnato introducing the 12th Cycle of Operators Conference in Toulouse

ATR’s 1000th turboprop delivered to Air Nostrum

the Johannesburg flight Training Center opened earlier this year - 1000 pilots have made use of the facilities already. Pilots have come from across Africa, the Middle East, Indian Ocean region and South America. In fact, worldwide, thousands of new pilots will need to be trained up in order to fly all the new aircraft coming off the produc-tion l ines, due to r a p i d t u r n ov e r at airlines and to replace pilots e i ther going into retirement or moving to other aircraft models.ATR has anticipated this need and is radically transforming its own pilot training philosophy according to Jean-Luc Establie, ATR’s Head of Commercial and Resources Planning.ATR is not just tra ining pi lots getting ready to fly its turboprops now. It’s preparing the next gene-ration of pilots by offering training to students coming from public and private f l ight schools. ATR

believes it could train up to 10% of the 500 students at those schools and they could be confirmed pilots within an 18 month training period. The idea is simple - if an airline wants to buy a turboprop, ATR will have a pool of new pilots trained according to the manufacturers’ standards. For the operator it means they

can get that p l a n e i n t o

recrui tment and train ing time lags and costs.A young pi lot who trains on a turboprop is likely to stay faithful to turboprops throughout his or her career, which is also extremely valuable for operators. Overall it’s a win-win on a l l s ides. ATR’s product is even more marketable and for operators, finding pilots won’t be a hurdle they face - as their needs and requirements will be anticipated years ahead.

I’m the 1000th ATR and this is my story.

In the know ATR Broadcast already a blockbuster hit

ATR’s official TV channel “ATR Broadcast” has just been launched and already received more than 70,000 ‘hits’ or views. That’s a remarkable achievement since the channel was only launched in May and underlines that a genuine bond has been created between the turboprop maker and the public. There are currently 80 videos on the channel covering a wide range of subjects from the product itself, to what happens behind the scenes, to major events and key issues affecting the aviation industry.

The channel is a great tool for targeting a fresh audience beyond traditional aviation fans who want to learn more about the sector and especially about the world of turboprops. The aim of the channel is to reach out to a public who may not be familiar with ATR or the aviation industry, with ATR’s own unique style. There are plenty of corporate aviation websites with serious and conventional videos. ATR have a different approach. The company wants to show the industry in a professional but more causal and of f-beat manner and create ATR brand awareness. That means short videos that can be punchy and sometimes quirky but with simple important messages that the viewer can identify with. The huge popularity of the channel so far shows that it’s working. You can see it directly by clicking onto ATR’s website and scrolling down to ATR Broadcast or by going directly to ATR Broadcast on YouTube. If you haven’t seen the channel yet - what are you waiting for? Check it out!

Over the summer our destinations include Zurich, Geneva, Naples and Split and we are the specialist for flights to ELBA-Island from var ious destinations. Our new routes that we are opening are focused on German and Austrian business travelers. Why did you choose ATR to expand your business?RM: InterSky has analyzed the market over the past few years and we came to the conclusion that ATR is exactly what we need since big airlines are withdrawing from the regional market. ATR was the smartest choice and for a regional airline like ours, the best aircraft in the world. The reason is simple; ATR’s turboprops are both eco-fr iendly and the most fuel efficient regional aircraft worldwide.

You have a new shareholder with plenty of experience in the aviation industry and a long time working relationship with ATR. Tell us about that?RM: The Intro Group with a range of business interests from property to aviation has joined us as a share-holder since last February. Its founder Hans Rudolf Wöhrl is a pioneer in the European regional aviation market and was one of the first launch customers for the ATR 42 and 72 in Europe over twenty years ago and brings incredible expe-rience and knowledge to InterSky.How do you see coming years ahead?RM: We are about to live a rebirth in the regional transport sector. There is no better plane than the 72-600 to get our business moving forward. We are very pleased to be doing this with ATR. We are really optimistic about the future. We will put our first 72-600 into service in January 2013 and we look forward to seeing what will happen soon after. Already our airline has a great reputation with a remarkable relia-bility level. And with the expansion of our fleet with ATR, our staff count will rise significantly from its current figure to 100.
