I am genuinely delighted to address you as we celebrate a truly special occasion for any Russian person – the Day of Russia!The fact that the Russian Days festival, a celebration of our home country, is held in Switzerland, and above all at the United Nations Office at Geneva, is testimony to the important role of this global organization in establishing and consolidating intercultural dialogue and humanitarian cooperation between countries.This fascinating and unique festival of Russian culture, held in the format of diverse events – art exhibitions, concerts, Geneva–Mos-cow videoconference featuring top officials of the United Nations and students of the MGIMO University, formal reception at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva – is certain to dramatically boost the effort of bringing our national cultures closer together.This project, involving foreign diplomats, top Russian politicians, prominent sportsmen and cultural figures, representatives of the UN and other international organizations, top businessmen and creatives, residents and guests of Geneva, serves as a posi-tive example of public diplomacy achieving the noble objective of strengthening bilateral cooperation between countries. Selfless and tireless efforts of outstanding Russian scientists, film directors, theatre workers and sportsmen has a tremendous effect on politi-cal processes, promoting mutual understanding between nations.I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the festival’s organ-izers for bringing to life such an interesting and, most importantly, popular cultural event. 12 июня наша страна отмечает государственный праздник - День России. В 1990-ом году в этот день была подписана Декларация о государственном суверенитете РСФСР. В масштабах общемировой истории, подписание Декларации о государственном суверенитете стало событием, которое изменило не просто географию континента, но, фактически, прекратило “холодную войну” и сняло угрозу глобального военного конфликта социалистического Востока и капиталистического Запада. Уже после произошли падение берлинской стены, Перестройка, разоружение и много других значимых событий, но главное случилось тогда – 12 июня 1990 года.

Значимость событий, произошедших 12 июня 1990 года и для России, и для всего мира очень велика. Поэтому именно к празднику День России было приурочено начало культурного фестиваля «Дни России в Швейцарии», задачей которого было познакомить швейцарцев с Великой культурой, которую унаследовала новая Россия, и с молодым поколением россиян, выросшим после распада Советского Союза.

Анатолий Карпов:Дни России в Швейцарии - высокоинтеллектуальная, высокохудожественная программа. Знаковым моментом является и то, что Дни России в Швейцарии прошли под патронажем Министерства Иностранных Дел, Государственной Думы РФ, Европейского отделения ООН, Постоянного представительства России при отделении ООН и других международных организациях в Женеве. Важно, что нас поддержали такие ведущие университеты, как МГИМО и Международный Центр МГУ им. Ломоносова в Женеве.

June 12DAY OF RUSSIA

On June 12, our country celebrates a public holiday – the Day of Russia. On this day in 1990, the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation was signed. On the scale of the global history, this Declaration did not simply change the continent’s geography but actually terminated the Cold War and eliminated the threat of an international military conflict between the socialist East and the capitalist West. The fall of the Berlin wall, the Perestroika, the disarmament, and many other significant events happened later; yet the cornerstone was laid on June 12, 1990.

The events that took place on June 12, 1990 have a great signif-icance both for Russia and the rest of the world. For that reason, the start of the culture festival titled Russian Days in Switzer-land was timed to coincide with the Day of Russia. The purpose of the festival was to introduce the Swiss to the great culture that the new Russia had inherited and to the young generation of Russians who grew up after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Anatoly Karpov:The Russian Days in Switzerland is a highly intellectual and artistic initiative. It is also truly symbolic that Russian Days in Switzerland were held under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the United Nations Office at Geneva, and the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva. Another significant fact is that our initiative was supported by such leading universities as the MGIMO University and the International Centre of the Lomonosov Moscow State University in Geneva.

PRESS CONFERENCE

The festivities dedicated to the celebration of the Day of Russia started with a press conference held by the renowned people who had organized the culture festival titled Russian Days in Switzerland, including the President of the International Associa-tion of Peace Foundations, the Ambassador of the United Na-tions Children’s Fund (UNICEF), a World Chess Champion, and a deputy of the Russian State Duma Anatoly Karpov; a Russian and American artist, sculptor, and philosopher Mihail Chemiakin; the Rector of the Shchukin Theatre School, a manager of educational programs at the International Centre of Lomonosov Moscow State University, a People’s Artist of Russia Yevgeny Knyazev; one of the project’s sponsors, Vice President of LADOGA Industrial Group Alexey Ilyin; and the author of the idea to hold the Russian Days in Switzerland, the President of Peace and Harmony foun-dation of social initiatives Elmira Shcherbakova. They shared with the journalists the agenda of the Russian culture festival, Russian Days in Switzerland. The press conference was organized by the festival’s media partner, RBC Group.

Mihail Chemiakin:We wanted to show that there are plenty of fascinating artists, musicians, and scientists in Russia. The world needs to see our country represented on a serious level, and not like some Rus-sian centers often do, with these ubiquitous nesting dolls, these gaudy dances, caviar and vodka. By holding the Russian Days in Switzerland, we wanted to show that we, the Russians, are actually capable of many things and won’t let our country down. This time and in the future, we will deliver real, genuine Russian culture.

Торжества, посвящённые празднованию Дня России, открыла пресс-конференция именитых организаторов культурного фестиваля «Дни России в Швейцарии». Председатель Международной Ассоциации Фондов мира, Посол Детского фонда ООН (ЮНИСЕФ), чемпион мира по шахматам, депутат Государственной Думы РФ Анатолий Карпов; Российский и американский художник, скульптор, философ Михаил Шемякин; Ректор театрального института им.Щукина, руководитель образовательных программ международного Центра МГУ имени М.В.Ломоносова, Народный артист России Евгений Князев, один из спонсоров проекта Вице-президент промышленной группы «Ладога» Алексей Ильин и автор идеи проведения Дней России в Швейцарии, Президент Фонда социальных инициатив “Мир и гармония” Эльмира Щербакова рассказали журналистам о программе российского культурного фестиваля «Дни России в Швейцарии». Пресс-конференция была организована партнёром фестиваля «Дни России в Швейцарии» - информационным холдингом РБК.

Михаил Шемякин:Нам хотелось показать, что в России есть множество интереснейших художников, музыкантов, учёных. Мы должны открыть миру Россию на серьёзном уровне. А не на том, на котором сейчас часто представляют нашу страну какие-то русские центры. Эти бесконечные матрёшки, танцы оп-ляоп-ля. Икра и водка. «Днями России в Швейцарии» мы хотели показать – мы, россияне, действительно многое умеем. И лицом в грязь не ударим. В этот раз, и в будущем, мы будем привозить настоящую русскую культуру.

Программа Дней России в Швейцарии состояла из двух составляющих: во-первых, она знакомила швейцарцев с современной русской культурой и во-вторых - с молодым поколением россиян, выросшим за время, прошедшее после падения Советского Союза.

В рамках культурной программы прошли:

• Выставка эскизов Михаила Шемякина к балету Щелкунчик.

• Художественная выставка в рамках проекта ART BRIDGE, представившая публике художников Наталью Овсиенко, Елену Кутузову и Алекса Инчбальда.

• Концерт оркестра «Солисты Москвы» под управлением Юрия Башмета.

• Концерт ансамбля народной музыки «Чибатуха».

• Лекция Михаила Шемякина на тему «Современная русская культура».

В рамках празднования Дня России прошли:

• Торжественный приём на высоком уровне в Постоянном Представительстве Российской Федерации при отделении ООН и других международных организациях в Женеве.

• Встреча членов оргкомитета фестиваля с Генеральным директором Европейского отделения ООН в Женеве г-ном Касым-Жомарт Токаевым.

• творческая встреча Михаила Шемякина со студентами и преподавателями Международного Центра МГУ им. Ломоносова в Женеве.

• Телемост Женева-Москва с участием руководства ООН и студентов старших курсов МГИМО.

• Встреча оргкомитета фестиваля с мэром Женевы Реми Пагани.

Эльмира Щербакова:Швейцария глубоко разбирается в Большой политике, Большом бизнесе и Большом искусстве, поэтому, формируя программу русского культурного фестиваля, мы ставили задачу привезти только лучшее. Программа Дней России 2012 объединила в себе и культуру, политику и образование. Затронув такой широкий пласт интересов, она была интересна практически каждому.

The agenda of the Russian Days in Switzerland consisted of two components: it introduced the Swiss to the contemporary Rus-sian culture and to the young generation of Russians who grew up after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The cultural agenda included the following events:

• Exhibition of concept art for The Nutcracker ballet by Mihail Chemiakin.

• Art exhibition in the context of the ART BRIDGE project, which introduced the public to the art of Natalia Ovsienko, Elena Kut zova and Alex Inchbald.

• Concert of Yuri Bashmet and his Moscow Soloists orchestra.

• Performance by Chibatukha, a folk music group.

• Lecture by Mihail Chemiakin on “Contemporary Russian culture”.

The celebrations dedicated to the Day of Russia involved:

• High-level formal reception at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva.

• Meeting of the festival’s Organizing Committee members with Mr. Tokayev, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

• Mihail Chemiakin’s creative encounter with students and professors of International Centre of Lomonosov Moscow State University in Geneva.

• Videoconference between Geneva and Moscow including top officials of the United Nations and future graduates of MGIMO University.

• Meeting of the festival’s Organizing Committee with Rémy Pagani, the mayor of Geneva.

Elmira Shcherbakova:

Switzerland is an expert in the Big Politics, Big Business, and Big Arts; therefore, developing the agenda for the Russian culture festival, our objective was to bring only the best. The program of Russian Days 2012 encompassed culture, politics, and educa-tion. By covering such a broad range of interests, it appealed to almost everyone.

Праздничную русскую неделю в Швейцарии открыла выставка Михаила Шемякина. Известный русский и американский художник и скульптор показал в Международном Центре МГУ им. Ломоносова (Женева) свои эскизы к балету «Щелкунчик». Михаил Шемякин: Я работал над оформлением обожаемой мною оперы «Любовь к трем апельсинам» Прокофьева. И вот однажды вечером, посмотрев по телевидению отвратительный американский фильм «Щелкунчик», подумал - какое счастье, что я не работаю с балетом, и заснул. Но был разбужен звонком Валерия Гергиева, который заявил, что я должен немедленно бросить «Апельсины» и заняться «Щелкунчиком». Я человек и так немягкий, а тем более, если меня ночью разбудить. И я сказал: Никогда! Но Гергиев - человек настойчивый, и его обеспокоенность судьбой этого уникального музыкального произведения меня проняла. Я взял партитуру, нашел пометки Чайковского и Петипа, в которых четко обозначалось, например, «нападение снежной бури. Попытка убить Машу и Щелкунчика». А в советском музыковедении «Вальс снежинок» воспевался, как «гимн красоте и юности». Вот такое полное непонимание. В общем, мы решили вывести эту мощную трагическую симфонию из состояния детского утренника. И у нас получилось. Гости выставки смогли лично убедиться - эскизы Шемякина к балету очень гофмановские, они заметно противоречат широко-принятой концепции Щелкунчика, как «новогодней сказки для детей».

The festive Russian week in Switzerland opened with the art exhibition by Mihail Chemiakin. The famous Russian and American artist and sculptor demonstrated his concept art for The Nut-cracker ballet at the International Centre of Lomonosov Moscow State University in Geneva.Mihail Chemiakin: I was working on the design for The Love for Three Oranges opera by Prokofiev that I truly adore. One night, I saw a disgusting American film The Nutcracker on TV and I thought how lucky I was not to be working with that ballet, and fell asleep. However, I was awakened by a phone call from Valery Gergiev who said I had to drop all the work for The Oranges imme-diately and start working on The Nutcracker. I’m a tough person as it is, especially when someone wakes me up in the middle of the night. So I said, “Never!” But Gergiev is a persistent man, and I eventually started to share his concern about the fate of this unique piece of musical art. I studied the music scores, found the comments made by Tchaikovsky and Petipa, which included such specific notes as “snow storm attack, an attempt to kill Masha and the Nutcracker”; whereas in the Soviet music studies, the Waltz of Snowflakes was lauded as a “hymn to beauty and youth”, which represents a complete lack of understanding. To cut a long story short, we decided to reject any children’s party elements of this powerful tragic symphony. And we succeeded.The guests who visited the exhibition had a chance to personally acknowledge that the sketches made by Mihail Chemiakin for The Nutcracker ballet are very much in the style of Hoffmann – they are noticeably different from the widely accepted concept of The Nutcracker as “a Christmas fairy tale for children”.

Национальные культурные фестивали оказывают столь заметное влияние на политические процессы, на формирование благожелательной атмосферы понимания между народами и взаимопроникновение культур, что Генеральный директор отделения ООН в Женеве г-н Касым-Жомарт Токаев выразил желание принять у себя членов оргкомитета Дней России в Швейцарии.Встреча прошла в ООН. Касым-Жомарт Токаев приветствовал гостей из России, интересовался программой фестиваля и планами на будущий год. Для гостей ООН была проведена экскурсия. Им показали «Испанский зал», где проходят заседания Исполнительного совета Организации, зал протокольных встреч, оформленный в стиле Артдеко и «Русский салон», предназначенный для конфиденциальных переговоров.Несмотря на то, что встреча была протокольной, она прошла в радушной и благожелательной атмосфере, потому что все говорили на одном языке – русском. В ходе встречи Михаил Шемякин подарил Касым-Жомарт Токаеву прекрасно изданный альбом своих рисунков с дарственной надписью.

MEETING OF THE ORGANIZINGCOMMITTEE OF RUSSIAN DAYS IN SWITZERLAND WITH DIRECTOR-GEN-ERAL OF THE UNITEDNATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVANational culture festivals have such a noticeable impact on political processes and fostering of a positive atmosphere of understanding among nations and mutual penetration of cultures that the Director-General of the United Nations Of-fice at Geneva Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed a desire to host a meeting with the members of the Organizing Com-mittee of the Russian Days in Switzerland.The meeting took place at the United Nations Office. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed his Russian guests and expressed his interest regarding the agenda of the festival and the plans for the next year.A tour was organized for the guests of the United Nations. They visited the Spanish Hall – the venue for the meetings of the UN Executive Committee, the hall for protocol meetings with its Art Deco design, and the Russian Parlour intended for confidential negotiations.Although it was a formal meeting, the atmosphere was warm and friendly, as everyone spoke the same language – Russian.During the meeting, Mihail Chemiakin presented a beautiful-ly published album of his artwork with a personal inscription to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

В Швейцарии прошёл уникальный концерт оркестра «Солисты Москвы» под управлением Юрия Башмета.

Юрий Башмет:«почти все произведения, из которых состояла программа выступления, это то, что обычно оркестры играют на бис».

Концерт прошёл под открытым небом на территории Постоянного Представительства Российской Федерации при отделении ООН и других международных организациях в Женеве. Послушать величайшего российского музыканта пришли послы и консулы разных стран, руководство отделения ООН в Женеве, представители крупного бизнеса, деятели культуры, россияне, проживающие в Швейцарии и другие гости.

CONCERT OF YURI BASHMET AND HIS MOSCOW SOLOISTS ORCHESTRA

A unique concert of the Moscow Soloists orchestra led by Yuri Bash-met was held in Switzerland.

Yuri Bashmet:Almost all of the compositions performed during the concert were those that orchestras usually play as an encore.

The concert took place outdoors within the territory of the Perma-nent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. The audience that came to listen to one of the greatest Russian musicians included ambassadors and consuls of different countries, the top officials of the UN Office at Geneva, representatives of large businesses, cul-tural figures, Russians residing in Switzerland, and other guests.

КОНЦЕРТ ОРКЕСТРА «СОЛИСТЫ МОСКВЫ» ПОД УПРАВЛЕНИЕМ ЮРИЯ БАШМЕТА

Интерес к творчеству Михаила Шемякина в Швейцарии огромный. Зал Международного центра МГУ им. Ломоносова не смог вместить всех желающих попасть на творческую встречу с известным художником и скульптором. Люди стояли в проходах. Михаил Шемякин предполагал рассказать собравшимся о современном русском искусстве, но журналисты, посетители выставки и студенты, пришедшие на творческую встречу, хотели общаться и фактически превратили лекцию в пресс-конференцию художника.

Под натиском вопросов Михаил Шемякин рассказал о себе и своём творчестве, о том, какие его выставки пройдут в ближайшее время, о своей работе в театре, кино и мультипликации… Несмотря на то, что встреча продолжалась больше часа, у пришедших на встречу осталось к художнику ещё много вопросов.

По многочисленным просьбам, организаторы Дней России в Швейцарии приняли решение провести ещё одну творческую встречу с художником в концертном зале Постоянного представительства Российской Федерации при отделении ООН и других международных организациях в Женеве.

CREATIVE ENCOUNTERWITH MIHAIL CHEMIAKINAT THE INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OFLOMONOSOV MOSCOW STATE UNIVERSITY IN GENEVA

The works of Mihail Chemiakin attract a great deal of attention in Switzerland. The auditorium of the International Centre of Lomonosov Moscow State University was too small to accom-modate all of the people wishing to attend the creative encounter with the famous artist and sculptor. People stood in the aisles. Mihail Chemiakin intended to tell the audience about contempo-rary Russian art but the journalists, visitors of the exhibition, and students who attended the creative encounter wanted to have a conversation and practically turned the lecture into the artist’s press conference.Under the barrage of questions, Mihail Chemiakin told the audi-ence about himself and his creative work, his exhibitions sched-uled for the near future, his work in theatre, cinematography, and animation, and so on. Although the event lasted over an hour, many of the questions prepared by the audience for the artist remained unanswered.To satisfy numerous requests, the organizers of the Russian Days in Switzerland decided to hold another creative encounter with the artist at the concert hall of the Permanent Mission of the Rus-sian Federation to the United Nations Office and other Interna-tional Organizations in Geneva.

ТВОРЧЕСКАЯ ВСТРЕЧА МИХАИЛА ШЕМЯКИНА В МЕЖДУНАРОДНОМ ЦЕНТРЕ МГУ ИМ. ЛОМОНОСОВА

Сильное впечатление на Швейцарцев произвела выставка художников в рамках проекта культурного обмена ART BRIDGE, которая прошла в Постоянном Представительстве Российской Федерации при отделении ООН и других международных организациях в Женеве.

Очень русские натюрморты и пейзажи Натальи Овсиенко принесли в летнюю Женеву бесконечные снега, морозные узоры на окнах, глиняных петушков, грибные корзины и рушники. Посетители выставки могли прикоснуться к глубинам русской природы и русской души.

По-настоящему удивили публику картины Елены Кутузовой, смотреть которые нужно было…… в полной темноте. Выполненные в технике двойного изображения, картины менялись в свете ультрафиолетовых ламп. Когда же зажигался обычный свет, то на холсте открывался совершенно другой рисунок. Елена Кутузова – единственный в мире художник, работающий в технике двойного изображения.

импрессиониста Алекса Инчбальда, написанные художником под впечатлением от визита в Россию.

ART EXHIBITION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ART BRIDGE PROJECT

The Swiss were very impressed by the exhibition of artists held at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva in the context of ART BRIDGE, a cultural exchange project.

Very Russian still-life paintings and landscapes by Natalia Ovsienko brought endless snow, frost patterns on the windows, clay roost-ers, baskets with mushrooms, and Russian hand towels to the summertime Geneva. The visitors of the exhibition could touch the depths of the Russian nature and the Russian soul.

The audience was genuinely surprised by the paintings by Elena Kutuzova that had to be viewed… in total darkness. The paint-ings, which use the double image technique, transformed in the light of UV lamps. When the regular light would come on, a completely different image would emerge on the canvas. Elena Kutuzova is the only artist in the world using the double image technique.

Switzerland was represented at the exhibition by Alex Inchbald’s dreamlike impressionist landscapes inspired by a trip to Russia.

ХУДОЖЕСТВЕННЫЕ ВЫСТАВКИ В РАМКАХ ПРОЕКТА ART BRIDGE

Встречая Дни России, Женева ждала русских песен, поэтому организаторы культурного фестиваля не могли не привезти в Швейцарию фольклорных исполнителей. Ансамбль народной музыки «Чибатуха» - это очень тонкая группа.

Репертуар ансамбля состоит из лучших образцов песенной музыкальной культуры России, которые были записаны в фольклорных экспедициях. Былины, баллады, плясовые и хороводные песни, обряд старинной русской свадьбы, рождественские колядки и проводы Масленицы - все это составило программу концертного выступления ансамбля.

Зажигательные русские песни и пляски в исполнении ансамбля «Чибатуха» развеселили швейцарцев, которые встречали каждый номер ансамбля бурными аплодисментами.

ERFORMANCE BY CHIBATUKHA,A FOLK MUSIC GROUP

Geneva was expecting to celebrate the Day of Russia with Russian songs, so the organizers of the culture festival had to bring folk music performers to Switzerland. The folk music group Chiba-tukha is a very refined act. The group’s repertoire includes only the best examples of the Russian song culture – the songs that have been recorded during folk expeditions. Epic songs, bal-lads, old dancing songs and rounds, traditional Russian wedding customs, Christmas carols, and Maslenitsa carnival songs – all of these were included in the concert program of the folk group.The exciting Russian folk songs and dances performed by Chiba-tukha cheered up the Swiss audience who welcomed each act of the group with a storm of applause.

VIDEOCONFERENCE BETWEENGENEVA AND MOSCOW

On June 15, there was a videoconference between Geneva and Moscow held in the context of the Russian Days in Switzerland. The conference was attended by top officials of the United Na-tions and MGIMO students. The Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the Am-bassador at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Alexei Borodavkin answered students’ questions re-garding the opportunities for employment at the UN, the human rights, and the green economy.

The key purpose of the videoconference was to show the future diplomats that employment with national and international government institutions can be just as exciting and useful as a business career. The students were keen on finding out whether the world needs them and their knowledge.Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a MGIMO University graduate him-self, assured the students that they would be quite helpful and emphasized the emerging significance of oriental languages. His examples were the most eloquent evidence. As it turns out, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev himself, just like the Ambassador Alexei Borodavkin, studied Chinese at the University, the Ambassador of Russia to the United Nations Office at New York Vitaly Churkin studied Mongolian, while the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov speaks Sinhalese practiced mostly in Sri Lanka.

Upon the conclusion of the videoconference, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev remarked that “these were nice young people” who asked “intelligent” questions, and that it was a pleasure for him to participate.

15 июня в рамках Дней России в Швейцарии состоялся телемост Женева-Москва при участии руководства ООН и студентов МГИМО. Генеральный директор отделения ООН в Женеве Касым-Жомарт Токаев и постоянный представитель Российской Федерации при отделении ООН и других международных организациях в Женеве Алексей Бородавкин, руководитель департамента конференциального обслуживания отделения ООН в Женеве Владимир Грачёв и Руководитель службы протокола Сергей Шапошников ответили на вопросы студентов о перспективах работы в ООН, о правах человека и зелёной экономике. Со стороны МГИМО телемост вели Проректор по учебной работе профессор Виктор Кириллов и Начальник Управления языковой подготовки и Болонского процесса МГИМО профессор Геннадий ГладковЦель телемоста состояла в том, чтобы показать будущим дипломатам, что можно интересно и с пользой работать и в государственных, и в международных структурах, а не только в бизнесе. Ребят интересовало, прежде всего, одно – нужны ли они и их знания миру. Господин Касым-Жомарт Токаев, сам выпускник МГИМО, заверил их, что очень нужны, и подчеркнул значение, приобретаемое сейчас восточными языками. Красноречивее всех аргументов стали приведенные им примеры. Оказывается, сам он, как и посол А.Н. Бородавкин, изучали в Институте китайский, представитель России при ООН в Нью-Йорке Виталий Чуркин – монгольский, а глава российского МИД Сергей Лавров владеет сингальским языком, практикуемым, в основном, в Шри-Ланке.По окончании телемоста господин Касым-Жомарт Токаев отметил, что «ребята были хорошие», а вопросы – «умные», и пообщаться ему было приятно.

To satisfy numerous requests, the organizers of the Russian Days in Switzerland held an unscheduled meeting with the famous Rus-sian and American artist Mihail Chemiakin. His lecture, dedicated to the contemporary Russian art, was the final event on the agenda of the Russian culture festival in Switzerland.Mihail Chemiakin shared with the audience that gathered in the concert hall of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva what contemporary art was, the role played by Rus-sian artists in the development of the international art scene, the cultural expansion of Russia abroad, and the reasons why it was essential.Mihail Chemiakin: Due to the 70 years when Russian artists were cut off from the global art scene, Western intellectuals have grown convinced that Russia is hopelessly behind any contempo-rary movements, anything that’s happening today. That is why it is so important to call attention to the fact that there are many outstanding artists in Russia in need of international exposure. It was them who I talked about at the meeting in Switzerland.

Идя навстречу многочисленным просьбам, организаторы Дней России в Швейцарии провели,незапланированную ранее, встречу с известным современным русским и американским художником Михаилом Шемякиным. Его лекция на тему «Современное русское искусство» закрывала работу фестиваля русской культуры в Швейцарии.Михаил Шемякин рассказал собравшимся в концертном зале Постоянного Представительства Российской Федерации при отделении ООН и других международных организациях в Женеве, что такое современное искусство, какую роль играют русские художники на международной арене, что такое культурная экспансия России на территории других стран, почему она необходима. Михаил Шемякин: 70 лет отрыва русских художников от международной арены создали мнение у западных интеллектуалов, что Россия безнадёжно отстала от всех течений, от того, что сегодня делается. Поэтому так важно привлечь внимание к тому, что в России есть множество интереснейших художников, которых нужно показывать. Именно о них я и рассказывал на встрече в Швейцарии.

Although Russian Days in Switzerland 2012 were locally focused in Geneva and targeted primarily the “Swiss Russians”, major Russian cultural celebrities who visited the event made a great impression on the Swiss audience.

During a meeting with the organizers of the Russian Days in Switzerland, the mayor of Geneva Rémy Pagani said, “It was an exciting and outstanding experience. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed their efforts to the prepa-ration of this festival and assure you that Geneva will be looking forward to a new meeting with you and will be happy to host Rus-sian Days again next year.”

Несмотря на то, что Дни России в Швейцарии 2012 года были локально сконцентрированы в Женеве и ориентированы больше на «русскую Швейцарию», приезд звёзд Большой российской культуры произвёл серьёзное впечатление и на швейцарцев. At the Russian Days in Switzerland festival, Russia showcased its art, classical and folk music, as well as introduced students from its top universities. In return, Switzerland let the Russian guests discover its legendary watch-making.For the guests of the festival who came all the way from Russia, a tour to the famous Audemars Piguet watch factory in La Vallée de Joux, a village near Geneva, was organised. The VIP guests from Russia were shown around the factory by Georges Ossorguine, General Director – Russia at Audemars Piguet.And in the evening, at the hotel where Audemars Piguet’s guests were staying, the legendary Swiss chocolate was served.

Россия показала на фестивале Дни России в Швейцарии живопись, классическую и народную музыку, представила студентов ведущих университетов. Швейцария же познакомила русских со своим знаменитым часовым производством.

Для гостей фестиваля, приехавших из России, была организована экскурсия на знаменитый часовой завод AUDEMARS PIGUET, расположенный в деревушке LaVallee de Joux недалеко от Женевы. Экскурсию для высоких гостей из России провёл генеральный директор Audemars Piguet в РоссииГеоргий Оссоргин.

А вечером в отеле, где разместили гостей AUDEMARS PIGUET, подавали знаменитый швейцарский шоколад.

Впереди нас ждёт серьёзная работа по подготовке Дней России в Швейцарии – 2013, но сейчас я хотела бы обернуться назад и поблагодарить всех тех, без чьей поддержки, мы бы не справились.
