coffee before we move on to the next item? M: Good idea. I really can’t wait another minute. Q: What does the woman suggest doing?3. M: Joyce, would you have dinner with me? W: Great. You treated me last week. Now it’s my turn. Shall we try something Chinese? Q: What can we learn from the conversation?4. W: How do you get to your office every day? Do you walk? M: Well, it’s too far to walk. I usually take the bus, since the bus stop is just at the corner by my house. Q: How does the man usually get to his office?

M: Where shall we have dinner tonight? Shall we try that Japanese restaurant? W: I can’t eat a thing. I feel terrible. My head aches. Q: What will the woman probably do next?7. M: You’re still coming to the meeting this week? W: I’m going to have to take a rain check. I’m up to my neck with work on this project. Q: What does the woman mean?8. M: Do you need much time at shopping mall? W: Not really. I want to buy a big cake for my grandmother’s birthday and a few thing for school. How about you? Q: Where is the woman going?

Conversation One

W: Hi, Sam, where are you going?

M: I’m going to the Student Union office to find out if Professor Cook has any old exams from years ago.

W: What kind of exams do you want? I took Professor Cook’s class last semester and got an A.

M: Really? But you always work hard. For you, it’s a

piece of cake. By the way, do you think that the

exams will change from year to year?

W: Yes, but the style is pretty much the same.

M: So tell me about the exam you took. I can barely even finish reading the book, let alone remember it.

W: Hey, I am no expert but what Professor Cook will mainly be looking for is that you know the framework of the book, especially the key items.

M: What kinds of questions might he ask?

Page 26: 大学英语四级听力模 拟试题 (2). Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear 8 short conversations and 2 long conversations. At the end of each conversation,

W: Well, for example, you will probably have to say how the greenhouse effect comes along, and what measures might be taken to reduce the overproduction of carbon dioxide.

M: It seems that I have to go over the book carefully, but time is limited. Did you take notes about it when you took the class?

W: To be frank, I’d like to help you, but the notes I look have already gone missing.

M: Are you kidding me? Now you are the only person to save me. If you do me a favor, I will treat you to a big dinner. Moreover, there is a vocal concert ticket for you.

W: It sounds beautiful. I have to help you with the exam? OK, see you in the library.

M: That’s kind of you! See you then.

Conversation TwoW: Everyone seems to be talking about climate change

these days!M: I’m not surprised. It’s all these greenhouse gases—

that’s what’s causing the problem!W: What are the greenhouse gases?M: You know, carbon dioxide, which comes mainly from

the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil, gas and coal.W: I’ve never understood why that’s a problem.M: Evidently these gases build up in the earth’s

atmosphere, and trap the heat from the sun.W: And so this heat is warming the planet?M: Exactly!W: well, isn’t that good news? I hate these cold winters

we get!M: Yes. But what’s good for you here may not be so

good for people elsewhere in the world. For the average world temperatures could rise. That can have a huge effect on local climates and ecosystems around the world.

Page 29: 大学英语四级听力模 拟试题 (2). Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear 8 short conversations and 2 long conversations. At the end of each conversation,

W: So you really think that these floods we’ve seen in the news could be caused by global warming?

M: Sure! And also the droughts and the storms.

W: So what can we do about it?

M: It’s not realistic to stop using fossil fuels today. But we can start trying to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

W: And look for alternative sources of energy too, of course!

Questions13 to 15 are based on the conversation you have just heard.

13. What is the problem the tow speakers are talking about?

14. Which of the following is NOT a kind of fossil fuel?

Passage One

There was once a man in South America who had a

parrot, a pet bird that could imitate human speech. The

parrot was unique. There was no bird like him in the

whole would. He could learn to say any word except one.

He could not say the name of his native town—Katano.

The man did everything he could to teach the parrot to

say “Katano”, but he never succeeded. At first he was

very gentle to the bird. But gradually, he lost his temper.

“You, stupid bird. Why can’t you learn to say that one

word? Say “Katano”, or I’ll kill you!” But the bird would

not say it. Many times the man screamed, “Katano”, or

I’ll kill you!” But the bird would never repeat the name.

Finally, the man gave up. He picked up the parrot and

Page 31: 大学英语四级听力模 拟试题 (2). Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear 8 short conversations and 2 long conversations. At the end of each conversation,

threw it into the chicken house. “You are even more stupid than the chickens.” In the chicken house, there were four old chickens, waiting to be killed for Sunday’s dinner. The next morning, when he went out to the chicken house, the man opened the door. Hewas shocked by what he saw. He could not believe his eyes and ears. On the floor lay three chickens. The parrot was screaming at the fourth, “Say “Katano”, or

I’ll kill you!”Questions16 to 18 are based on the passage you have just heard.16. Why did the man lose his temper with the parrot?17. Who killed the three chickens?18. Why was the man shocked at the scene in the

Passage Two China announced Sunday its decision to lift retail diesel and gasoline prices for first times in eight months, while setting up a mechanism to offer some subsidies to disadvantaged communities and public service sectors. The recipients of the subsidies include grain growers, fishermen and fishing firms operating and farming offshore or in inland areas, using oil-driven fishing boats, state-owned forestry enterprise and nurseries of forestry centers, urban public transportation firms, said the commission. It said the government will pay a number of subsidies directly to grain growers to reduce the impact of the price hikes of diesel oil and chemical fertilizers and other agricultural production materials.

Page 33: 大学英语四级听力模 拟试题 (2). Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear 8 short conversations and 2 long conversations. At the end of each conversation,

For operators of rural passenger shipping business, the commission said the government will reduce the impact mainly through such measures as adjusting the charges of transportation,

and offering proper amount of subsidies to those in Difficulty. The commission said local governments will offset the increased financial burden on taxi drivers in the urban areas mainly through readjusting the charges of transportation and imposing surcharge on fuel oil. The Chinese government has ordered various localities to implement the measures on subsidies while price regulators at various levels should improve inspection and supervision of price of processed oil to maintain the stability of oil prices.Questions19 to 21 are based on the passage you have just heard.19. What can be inferred from the passage about retail diesel and

gasoline price?20. Which of the following communities will get subsidies directly

from the governments?21. What measures can local governments take to offset the

increased financial burden on taxi drivers?

Passage Three Students sitting the National College Entrance Exam are likely to see cell phone signals blocked inside exam sites this year to prevent cheating. While education authorities said they would use modern technology to tighten management of exam sites, the new regulation didn’t bother the majority of local exam takers. The new regulation, which was issued by the Ministry of Education, suggested cities—especially those with a track record of cheating scandals—equip exam sites with cell phone signal shielding facilities. It means handsets won’t work even if students have their phones on during the exam. “The city will follow the Ministry of Education’s instruction,” said Wang Xin, a publicity official with the Shanghai Education Commission. “But exam site management details have yet to be worked out.

Page 35: 大学英语四级听力模 拟试题 (2). Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear 8 short conversations and 2 long conversations. At the end of each conversation,

Previously, students were only asked to switch off cell phones. However, people could switch their phones to vibration mode.” In June,18 student in Guizhou Province were disqualified from the exam after they attempted to seek help from teachers by sending exam questions via short message. A popular measure t

hat exam organizers take is to install a microelectronic wave detector. An alarm sounds if a cell phone is found working in the classroom. Officials said it is impractical to simply ban handsets from exam rooms as students can hide them in many places or use other devices.

Questions22 to 25 are based on the passage you have just heard.22. What measure will be taken to prevent cheating in exam sites

according to the Ministry of Education?23. How did the Shanghai Education Commission respond to the

new regulation?24. How many students in Guizhou Province were disqualified fro
