Expediting Court Process

• As bureaucracies advance red-tape bureaucratization tends to develop

• Opportunities to expedite can occur at various points in the system

• Expediting is not a trade-off for quality– When process otherwise becomes punishment– When the impact of swift an certain is lost– When children are removed from their families for

longer periods unnecessarily– When children and families are distanced from

services that provide help

Expediting Placement Cases

• Reduce the numbers of youth going to placements by increasing family preservation services

• Develop a hands-on relationship with placements to ensure that services are individualized, with variable length of stay, family centered and culturally relevant

• Measure and review time frames (dispo to release) reduce referral red-tape and monitor length of time in program.
