Fossil Flora from Lake Forms North - West of Cacak

Th is paper deals with fl oras from the localities (Kamenica, Plana, Jancici and Ljubic).

Th e researched region is in the north-west of Cacak. Th e above mentioned lo-calities are lake basins presenting downcast terrain caused by tectonic activity which was started to form at the end of Oligocene and during Miocene. Th ey mainly spread north-west and south-east. Th e researched localities present, in fact, parts of previous great lake of Cacak- Kraljevo basin which used to be connected in certain periods of time depending on tectonics. Later by tectonic movements and dissections these basins were separated.

Th e researched region consists of Paleozoic metamorphisms, ultramaphites, rocks of Mesozoic complex, sediments of Neogenes and vulcanites. Th e oldest rocks belong to Paleozoic. Neogenes sediments are most spread and have been discovered in all the listed localities.

Th e fossil fl ora has been found in these forms. Th e dominant ones are Pinus tedaeformis, Pinus hepios, Glyptostrobus europaeus, Myrica lignitum. On the basis of pale logical analyses it has been proved that there was moor (wet) vegetation which surrounded the lakes and had xenomorphic leaves. Th e climate was of sub tropical character. In some localities there are taxons (not in a great number) which are char-acteristics of moderate continental regions. Th is can be explained by global cooling

    25

    ZBORNIK 35 1.indd 25ZBORNIK 35 1.indd 25 11/19/2006 11:23:32 PM11/19/2006 11:23:32 PM

  • which started in the North Hemisphere in Oligocene (Pantic, 1986). Palleothropic forms gradually withdrew or became extinct and their habitats were taken by more adoptable arcktoterciar forms.

Considering the fact that these localities are still not well researched it can be expected that some new researches make the list of taxons longer which would con-tribute to more precise paleologiocal and other interpretations.

Results of Mound Research on the Locality Suva Cesma in Lucani

Mound on the locality Suva Cesma in Lucani is located on the west slopes of Ruja in the place Lucani near Cacak, which has been known for a great number of tumuli for a long time. It has remained as the only one out of the bigger necropolis.

Th e mound is of calotte shaped, dimensions IZ 11,7 m and SJ 15,2 m, preserved height of 1,3 m with partly preserved stone cover (plast). It was damaged by making a village road from one side, and in the central part by building in the stove for slaking the lime. It has been established only one tomb whole in NW part of the mound. Grave construction is almost of oval shape made of laid stones of diff erent size. Th e base of dimension 2,5 x 1,8 m was made of one row of stones very carefully placed. Th e space among the stones was fi lled in the ground with small stones where burnt bones of a deceased and parts of ceramic vessels. As they were found all over the construction, it can be concluded that they were laid in the construction during its building. It is estab-lished that there are four diff erent ceramic forms. According to the stylish-typological analyses of ceramics as well as to the type of grave architecture, this unit can be dated into early Bronze Age.

Th e Monastery Sv. Trojice below Ovcar

For its architecture monastery Sv. Trojice (Holy Trinity) is certainly the most beautiful temple in Ovcar-Kablar gorge, located on the forested slopes of Ovcar. Th e fi rst centuries of the existence of the monastery are in the dark. It has not been found out who founded it or when. Todays assumptions rely on Turkish registers. Th e build-ing of the monastery was certainly at the end of XVI century.

Th e monastery Sv. Trojice church is one nave building with square choirs, an elaborated altar which consists of three parts, narthex and a dome above the central part of the church.

Specifi c characteristics of the altar, and dome as well as stone relief decoration in portal caused the opinion that the church date back from XIII century.

In fact the monastery church of Sv. Trojice was planned and built in the tradition of bringing back Raska style in architecture aft er reconstruction of Pec Patriarchy in 1557.

Very few data give the picture of fi rst centuries of the monastery existence. Sani-tation of the church revealed the traces of burning which might have happened dur-ing the Great Serbian Migration in 1690 when most of the monasteries in the gorge were destroyed. Th e monastery was reconstructed in 1723.

Th ere are no data about the monastery until 1814 when it was recorded that the books from Trojice were taken to Blagovestenje. In 1820 the monastery did not have monks but two priests with their families lived in it.

  • An important event was building of new iconostasis, a work of Nikola Markovic in 1868, in the style of romanticism with classical carving elements.

In spite all the eff orts the monastery was abandoned. Only in 1937 was the mon-astery reconstructed.

  • An Example of Military Architecture in Dragutin Djordjevics Opus

In spite of the greater interest for national civil engineering heritage of the later period, objects of military architecture have not been thoroughly researched. Although military barracks used to be built in the time of Milos Obrenovic, only at the end of XIX century they got the form, in a modern sense of word, these military buildings had in Europe. Among numerous historic styles of the XIX century, neo romanticism forms were mainly used for building military buildings inspired by me-dieval fortifi cation structures.

In the opus of a well known architect Dragutin Djordjevic there are several mili-tary objects and among them the building of Tenth Takovo Regiment in Cacak, built in 1902. Th e structure was designed as a free object in a shape of a Cyrillic letter P ac-cording to the rules of architecture of academism. Th e main faade is decorated with side and dominant, central risalits. In accordance with European concepts of the time, outside treatment is based on elements of neo renaissance, but of modest and moder-ate repertoire. Using the language of classic elements, Djordjevic gave one monumen-tal and strict expression to the military barracks-buildings as it can be seen in Cacak building to show the power of the institutions which represent state authority.

Regardless typology characteristics, as a building of public purpose, military post in Cacak presents a testimony of sociological development of one environment in the process of Europesation.

  • Gimnazija Secondary School Building in Cacak- History and Architecture

Eff orts that town Cacak got a specialized building for grammar school GIMNAZI-JA date back to the end of 19th century. A very interactive correspondence kept in the His-tory Archive of Cacak explains vividly the whole project and off ers signifi cant documents about the interests and eff orts of a Rudnik district in this respect. Plans for this building were ordered at the beginning of the second decade of 20th century in the Ministry of Civil Engineering and his designer and author, architect Dragutin Maslac worked them out till the mid 1912. Th e building was started in the same year but aft er the First World War broke out the works were stopped. Th e building was fi nally completed and sanctifi ed in 1926. Architectural concept is based on academic distribution of the mass, appropriate to public education purpose of the object, while the general art achievement of the building is connected with national building experience and it is decorated with partial secession details. Today, this object presents one of the master pieces of the epoch of looking for Serbian national style and one of the most beautiful Gimnazija (grammar school) build-ings in Serbia. In the opus of architect Maslac, who formed his style based on experiences of academism, secession, folkloric as well as neo-Byzantium style, Cacak building presents one of his most valuable works of art.

Building of Primary School King Alexander I (Kralj Aleksandar I) in Gornji Milanovac

Th e school building of primary school Kralj Aleksandar I in Gornji Milanovac was designed by architect Jezdimir Denic (Kragujevac 1885 Belgrade 1970), whose work has not been well researched until present days. He started studying architec-ture at Italian Polytechnics in Torino in 1918 but fi nished it at Technical Faculty in Belgrade in 1924. Th e project for the building of primary school Kralj Aleksandar I in Gornji Milanovac was worked out in 1928 at the beginning of his career as he was employed in the Ministry of Civil Engineering of the Kingdom of SHS (Serbs, Croats and Slovenes).

Th e building of the school lasted from 1931 to 1933. By its structural solution and faade processing the building was designed in academic manner, characteristic for the administrative and cultural-educational institutions in the period between the two Wars.

By symmetric academic base with patterned position of the premises, as well as with sophisticated composition of the front which has monumental mass and side wings with six not too exposed window openings, distributed in two levels, a well bal-anced formal strength and compactness of the object were established. Main faade of the building faces the street, while two smaller wings face the school yard. It was built as one fl oor building with ten classrooms, a reading room, a library, and a room for the school collection, a special room for the school supervisor, two teachers rooms and a big ceremony hall. By the functionality of the space it was built according to the most modern school standards, while decorative treatment of faade surfaces makes it one of the most signifi cant public objects in the very town centre. During the Second World War the school was seriously damaged and its faade surfaces have not been reconstructed and returned into their original state up to the present days.
