CHARACTER GROWTH AND REWARDPOINTS
As the Campaign progresses, your Character will takeon new experiences. After surviving dangerous
adventures, unraveling vast political conspiracies, conquering environmental obstacles, driving awayhorrific abominations and defeating the machinationsof the just and unjust alike. You begin to illicit masteryover your own abilities. Forged through the fires ofadversity, the sum of these experiences cause yourCharacter to improve in several different ways. In agrim & perilous world, loss means as much to thelearning experience as victory. While losing can becruel and harsh, those who live take away invaluableknowledge and improve upon their proficiencies to
better prepare themselves.
Killing fantastical monsters is oftentimes the assumed way to gain Reward Points with other role-playinggames; this is not so with ZWEIHÄNDER . Thissystem advocates that Players be appropriatelyrewarded for staying In-Character around the gametable and playing to your Character’s Blessing andCurse in tense situations. To reflect this, you gain whatare called Reward Points - a form of intangiblecurrency given as a reward to spend on improving your
Character’s abilities. Reward Points is given by yourGamemaster to reflect your Character’s sojourn, a mixof both failure and success in their endeavors and howthey psychologically overcome these challenges.
You can generally assume that your Gamemaster willroundly hand out around 50-100 Reward Points perGame Session to each Player equally. AdditionalReward Points rewards come from playing yourCharacter’s Blessing and Curse, participating in socialintrigue, surviving conflict and tackling environmentalchallenges. Above all else, you are awarded RewardPoints for role-playing and participation in the gamearound the table.
SPENDING REWARD POINTS As you gain Reward Points, new doors open for your
Character. You begin to pick up new aptitudes beyond what your Profession has taught you. This sum of theseexperiences are encapsulated through the Tier system.
All Characters start out in Basic Tier. This Tier requires you to grow certain Characteristics, until you’vecompleted all of your training and move into the nextTier. However, as you move into the Intermediate Tierand Advanced Tier, you may grow in ways moreappropriate to the story and narrative, customizing
your Character into someone truly unique.
Reward Points (sometimes called “RP”) are rewarded by the Gamemaster over each session, which you thenpurchase for Advances. There are four different typesof Advances you may make by spending RewardPoints:
PROFESSIONAL TRAITS - You pick upthese traits in your Profession. They vary
wildly from Profession to Profession, underscoring the primary function of theirinherent Skills. Each Profession, whether a
Standard or Elite Profession, possesses oneProfessional Trait.
SKILL RANKS - You gain training and raw bonuses to your Skills, otherwise referred to by Apprentice, Journeyman and Master SkillRanks. For each Skill Rank, you gain a +10Base Chance to use that skill. Furthermore,Skill Ranks are cumulative; this means aCharacter who has purchased all Skill Ranks in

a single Skill could have a +30 Base Chance tosucceed a Skill Test!
BONUS ADVANCES - You gain a raw bonusto your Primary Attributes Bonus, rewarding
you with a +1 each time you purchase one. Forinstance, if you have a Melee Bonus (MB) of 4and purchase a Bonus Advance in Melee, yournew Melee Bonus (MB) is now 5.
TALENTS - You gain knacks or specialabilities which either augment a way a Skill can
be used or provides a new option yourCharacter may utilize. Talents, while diverse, help clarify some of the more distinct perks aProfession may utilize.
In addition to the above four Advances, yourGamemaster may grant you the ability to spendReward Points on Unique Advances. We’ll talk moreabout this later.
WHAT IS A TIER? A Tier is measurement of competence, profiling aCharacter’s experiences over the course of a Campaign. Each Tier represents a collection of choices you’vemade. In ZWEIHÄNDER , there are 3 Tiers - BasicTier, Intermediate Tier and Advanced Tier.
Each Tier has a certain number of required Advances aCharacter must have before moving onto a new Tierand Profession. The Basic Tier limits you to spendReward Points in a few specific ways, outlined in yourProfession’s description. However, as you arepromoted to the Intermediate Tier and Advanced Tier, these limitations are entirely removed as you grow yourCharacter towards a different Profession. Characters
will automatically gain promotion into the next Tier byfulfilling all of the required Advances from the previousTier and making their first Reward Points expenditureinto the Professional Trait of their new Profession.
