Its soft-feathered, brown, flightless birds reach up to 2 metres in height. They have long thin necks and legs. Emus can travel great distances at a fast, economical trot and, if necessary, can sprint at 50 km/h.

Description of how the animal’s body functions enable it to survive in

the hot/cold.

Solar radiation is absorbed by the tips, and the loose-packed inner

plumage insulates the skin. The resultant heat is prevented from flowing

to the skin by the insulation provided by the coat, allowing the bird to be

active during the heat of the day.

For normal breathing in cooler weather, they have large, multi-folded

nasal passages. Cool air warms as it passes through into the

lungs, extracting heat from the nasal region.

1. The emu has a number of adaptations which enhance its

ability to survive in Australia's many and varied

climates

1. Emus have three toes, unlike the ostrich, which

has only two. Having three toes equips the emu

more efficiently for running.

2. Emus have strong endurance, being able to run at a

steady, loping pace for a long time.

3. When food is plentiful, emus can store extra

fat, which they may then rely on as they move on

to a new food source.

4. Emus are nomadic, moving between food sources.

They are therefore not restricted to living in

just one area, dying out when drought creates

severe food shortage.

Group reflections and photo!Al Zikry’s reflection:

The journey was interesting as we as a class get to work as a team, bonding together. I have learnt that we have to take good care of the animals as some of its population is decreasing. For example, the white tiger, the pandas and others.

Norman’s Reflection: Its my first time visiting the zoo. The zoo was bigger than the one in Indonesia and also there are more animals there. I enjoyed my self and i learned allot about the animal life style. I had a great time and I was able to do my task on time.
