LUTHERAN HOUR “More Than a Wish” with Speaker Emeritus Rev.
Dr. Ken Klaus. Not so long ago over 370 million tickets were sold for a
Powerball drawing. Each person who made a purchase had hope that they
might become rich. Most were disappointed. In 1 Thessalonians 4, St. Paul
explains how the resurrection hope of Christians is better than the
hopelessness of the world and far more solid than groundless wishful
thinking. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14) Listen to “The Lutheran Hour” locally on
Sunday at 12:01 p.m. on KHBT 97.7 FM and at 6:00 p.m. on KJYL 100.7 FM
or on the web at www.lutheranhour.org/AFN/listen.htm. “The Lutheran
Hour” is also on XM’s Family Talk Radio every Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (EST).
Today’s broadcast is sponsored to the glory of God by Bruce and Linda
Gunderson in celebration of their birthdays.

Candles on the Altar – longer shells with more capacity: The current
‘shells’ (the white part of the altar candles) hold a capacity to burn for about 3
to possibly 4 services. They are routinely filled by the ladies of the church
every couple of weeks – and they have been very diligent about filling them.
There have been times where the candles still have become low (typically
when we become busy with funerals and weddings).
One idea proposed to help would be to buy replacements inserts with a
greater capacity. The current inserts are about 10 inches high. They sell
replacement inserts that are 17 inches high -- this would obviously increase
the capacity of the oil in the candles. We could also try wider diameter
inserts. We would keep the schedule for filling them the same, but with the
increased capacity, they shouldn’t run low.
The replacement inserts would cost roughly $100 each. There are six
candles on the altar. The council thought it wise to ask the congregation if
anyone would be willing to donate toward the cost to purchase the inserts.
Donations can be routed through the offering with envelope marked ‘candles’.
If you have changed your phone number or are now using only a cell
number, have a new e-mail address, or have moved and have a new physical
address, please contact the church office at [email protected] or 332-
3279 with your new phone number, e-mail address, and/or physical address.
