Blah from Ed and Eddy:

Hey guys,

April has been a whirlwind of a month! Exams getting over-World Cup and IPL mania gripping

everybody- Release of next year’s Core Team-A Journey Way Beyond, Mask-a-Rio and other

exciting projects happening throughout the month . With so much on our plate and a jam-packed

month lined up ahead with the club’s biggest projects, we at the Editorial decided it’s time we all

took a break and indulged in some fun! This is why, the theme for this issue of Zing is Summer

Fun!

Always find yourself bored? Then check out Beat the Summer Blues! Want to explore a new

destination, then Pack Your Bags is what you need to read. It’s time we all tried our hand in the

kitchen, Slurrrp has some easy-to-make summer coolers! For all the fashion conscious, we have,

Make a Statement- A Fashion Statement. Finally, for all the movie buffs, Zing presents a new

column Popcorn Monthly, your guide to movies that are due to hit the screens soon! Also, Lil Birdie

packs in quite a surprise, this issue!

Two months to go, before things change, and the club sets itself for a new beginning! The thought

of a new year excites me; while at the same time, the thought of moving away from the Editorial

saddens me! But I guess that, change is the only thing that’s constant. Anyway, let’s ALL end on

a high. What say? What do you think?

Happy Reading!

Yours-in-Rotaract,

Rtr. Wayne D’Cruz and Rtr. Nilofer Rehman,

Editors-in-Chief 2010-11.

Beat the Summer Blues!

Don’t know what to do? The Slick Maverick, Rtr. Siddhi Desai helps you beat the summer blues as she dishes out solutions, with sarcasm on the side! ;)

It‟s kind of ironical how after our hellish exams we have to go through weather that‟s equally if not more hell-like.

Now as the cliché goes work hard, party harder; it is the summer vacations in which we compensate for the work we

did. Initially, there is so much to do and so less time, but like every ball stops rolling on the ground at one point,

even our activities lose momentum. And then just like the ball, we are left with nothing, but static and boring

nothingness. Yes, we do make up ambitious lists and schedules, but seriously, plans are meant to be opposed! So in

our fickle-minded and bored states, what should we do? What to do, what to do? Asking this question is all we do,

and our precious vacations slip away. Our plans are somehow exactly like resolutions- all talk- no actions. So let me

try and look at your plans in a more realistic sort of a way and let you realize what you should do and how…

I am going to do a summer job!!! Only work, work, WORK!!!-

C‟mon! Give me a break; unless you are a workaholic you can‟t devote all your time to doing a job. If you

add money to the argument, then I really don‟t think that a summer job will make a bill gates and get all your

bills out the gate!-Tone it down a bit, you can get a weekend job or even do supervision at classes, they

provide money and don‟t require extreme attention and all your time.

I am going to learn an instrument, a foreign language, cricket, football, also go to a new hobby class,

blah, blah, blah- Superman might also get intimidated by your plans. I admit that the vacations excitement gets to you and you

want to try everything but it‟s just not possible!- Sit down and think about what you really are more inclined

to; are you into sports? Or music? Or a „language‟ person?

I don’t know how to switch on a gas, but I’m going to learn everything from baking to the most

oriental of cooking, I will whip up pastas as fast as I change my nail polish colour- When it comes to the cooking part, there is one very easy exercise, go into your

kitchen, it might seem like an alien place and your mom might faint by the shock, but

it‟s worth the try! Learning at home and starting from the basics even reduces the

workload on your mother, so it‟s win-win for everyone.

I will give vampires a run for their money with my gaming skills; that is when

I’m not too busy Facebooking! You can‟t just only sit on your PC all the time! Too much of time in front of your

computer is very harmful! Everything from headaches to depression, from ulcers to carpal tunnel syndrome

can be linked to excessive computer use. Also too much violent gaming also makes the person aggressive-

Since I want to avoid counter strikes actually happening in my college, I [and the doctors] recommend that

the max you should carry out Gaming/Facebooking/Any-Computer-Related-Entertainment is 2 hours.

I won’t go home, I will roam and roam and roam- The sentence reflects your intelligence- Actually pull off such stunts and your parents won‟t let you home!

Still not too sure, what to do? Well then…

Spring clean your house. You don‟t know how much pleasure you gain and calories you lose by doing

this!

Read books. Light reads, Chicklits or Suspense novels.

Rent movies. You must have often heard your friends raving over some flick that you haven‟t watched.

Well then, use the vacations to watch those flicks and figure out for yourself if they are worth the hype!

Take small and unique hobby classes rather than the biggies- You don‟t compulsorily need to learn some

instrument, language etc. in a holiday. Take those random hobby classes like the best out of waste classes

or the summer workshops. They‟re short and also a nice experience.

Visit your native place and/or your relatives- There is never enough time and the siblings‟ exams always

clash, so why not meet your grandparents or less than close relatives? It gives them immense joy!

So you might say that I was stating the obvious, but I‟ll tell you that it was exactly the point!

Another clichéd phrase of „hiding in plain sight‟ comes in the picture. Someone just needs to point

It out to you, to make you realize that it‟s there! And that‟s exactly what I‟m hoping I did!

-Make a Statement. A Fashion Statement-

The blazing summer sun is here and its time to heat things up a bit, with us

looking our best! It's all about the comfort, so if you look into the mirror and you

don't feel comfortable, go change!

For the ladies its a fabulous opportunity to go all out in white, the point it to keep it

simple yet smart. The girls, can adopt the mantra, short and sweet! Short dresses are

in again, flaunt them with style. The evergreen white shirt tucked into blue jeans, with

a snappy pair of shades and you're set to go!

Girls, short floral dresses, are in this summer!

Floral designs are the rage this summer and peacock colours

are the colours of the season! For some extremely bright reason,

peacock coloured make up is in too! Pair up some bright, totally

in your face accesories, and a sparkly pair of flip flops, with

shorts/jeans,

a thin coloured belt and your set to be a beach bum or a classy

shopper! Wrapping up in scarves is catching on again, despite the

summer heat, so make sure your scarves anre light and in bright colours!

Heading for an afternoon party? Try on this for size, formal shorts, with

a frilly shirt tucked in!

For the men, graphic tees, long shirts, kurtas are the style statement. The latest just in is

that pants in pastel shades or vibrant colours are in, as are cool funky hats to replace the

baseball cap look. Going out guys? Play it simple, play it hot, play it Barney style, SUIT

UP! The ladies should go with deep necked dresses , high waisted skirts, bright colourful

halter, tube dresses or kaftan dresses or you can go office style, with a business woman

look, have to show some x- factor don't we ladies! Are our RCJC boys and girls going

to be flaunting these fashion trends? We're just going to have to wait and watch!

Popcorn Monthly

Luv Ka The End This is the first film, produced by Y-Films, a subsidiary of Yashraj Films. The Good: The songs, “Luv Ka the End” and “Freak Out” from this movie have already become a rage! The movie has got a decent soundtrack. The Bad: Allegedly, a rip-off of the Hollywood film, John Tucker Must Die, this movie, launches a bunch of newcomers in lead roles. Its tagline- “Don’t get mad, get even” is blatantly copied from its Hollywood counterpart. Will we EVER get original? O.o? Should you catch it? ZING VERDICT: No!!! Save yourself a couple of hundreds! Rent the DVD of John Tucker Must Die, if you must! Corny laughs, guaranteed! :D

Love U…Mr.Kalakaar! This one’s from the Rajshri Production house. Tushaar Kapoor plays a cartoonist while Amrita Rao plays a management trainee and the movie is about their love story. The Good: A sweet love story never fails! This one seems to be different and the ‘cartoonist’ angle seems refreshing! The Bad: Haven’t we had enough of love stories, the Rajshri kind atleast? And didn’t the Gomaal series work, because Tushaar stayed shut? Do we really want to see Mr. Kapoor talking? o.O? Should you catch it? ZING VERDICT: Maybe, if you’re into sweet, mushy stories, that is!

The Hangover- Part II Stu’s getting married in Bangkok. He plans a safe pre-wedding brunch to avoid letting history repeat itself! But, things just have a way of going wrong, when it comes to The Wolfpack! The Good: Bachelors drinking the night away to wake up to a hazy morning and searching for a missing somebody! A wild goose-chase! The Bad: Huge expectations from this movie, since the first part hit the Bull’s eye, all over the world! But with the base plot being the SAME, will The Hangover: Part II, have anything new to offer? India Frenzy! The first part of the series created quite a record in India with ticket sales! Many Bollywood producers rushed to buy rights of the Hindi remake! And from what we hear, upcoming Hrithik starrer Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara bears some resemblance to this Hollywood flick! Such is the widespread Hangover mania! Should you catch it? ZING VERDICT: Yeah, without a doubt! You’re definitely in for a crazy time! B)

PACK YOUR BAGS!

Rtr. Shantanu Ugrankar, tells you about places to hit this summer for a short trip!

All of us seem to be growing tired of this draining heat and look for a cool getaway. A few places known to everyone are Mahabaleshwar, Matheran so on and so forth. But, how long do we plan to live in the same old world of ours and not be adventurous enough to explore outside the box?

Well, how about we discover Panhala?

Well, situated around approximately 3177 feet above sea level, Panhala

offers a panoramic view of the valley to the table. It is quite a secluded

location in the lap of the Sahayadri with an average temperature of

around 25 degrees celsius throughout the calendar. This place has quite a

long and fascinating history ranging way back to 1178 A.D. Quite a cool

place, don't you think?

Okay okay!! History isn't your cup of tea? Then how about you lodge in the

Saputara?

This place offers you the coolest climate you'll find anywhere in

Maharashtra. It’s located in the Dang forest in the Sahyadri ranges at around

an altitude of 835 feet. Think you won’t have much to do in Saputara? Well

you’re mistaken! A wild life sanctuary and a few days in the log huts make

Saputara an excellent destination for a weekend trip!

Or another option could be Panchgani, only 16 kms away from

Mahabaleshwar. The hillstation of Panchgani is lesser known to tourists

but no less inviting. This hillstation would be one of the most suitable

places if you prefer the scenic view of River Krishna on one side and the

beautiful coastal planes on the other. The ride through the hamlets, farms

and ravines with the gorgeous greens and the ravishing river Krishna of

Panchgani ought to enchant you. Panhgani unlike any other place, never

experiences drastic change in weather. Now, this is the ideal place to go if

all you want to do is kick back and relax.

How about heading to a beach destination for a change in weather? But

let’s move beyond Goa! If burying your heels in sand and the ocean

breeze blowing in your face is your idea of relaxation, then head to

Tarkarli, a village in Malvan Taluka, in the district of Sindhudurg.

This is another place with a lot of historical background, but it also has

sizzling beaches, to get a tan if desired. The cuisine here is lip smacking.

A blend of Goan food with a tinge of Kolhapuri flavour! Yum!

“A LITTLE BIRDIE CHIRPED THAT…”

The year, 2010-11 is almost drawing to an end. And it seems like Lil Birdie has decided to change her

colours! Read on, as her alter ego comes to the fore! :O

Disclaimer: All the real names of places, people, and events have been altered or abbreviated to protect the

innocent. Namely, me.

Ever had that totally freakish feeling that someone is listening in on your conversations, spying on you and your friends while

you sipped iced teas on the grey-colored steps of our College, following you around hearing everything you say, looking into

every word you speak? Well, they are. Or actually, I am. And the truth is, I‟ve been here all along, because I‟m one of you. The

year is drawing to a close and I‟ve decided to spill the beans. I‟m a little tired of my goody avatar! It‟s time to get bitchy! Don‟t get out much? Hair so processed it‟s fried your brain? Perhaps you‟re not one of us after all and you have no clue what I‟m

talking about or who „we‟ are. Allow me to expound. We‟re an exclusive group of indescribably beautiful people who happen to be a

part of Mumbai‟s most elite private college. Our families own most of the properties around Town. We‟re seated immediately at the

finest restaurants in the chicest neighborhoods with nary a reservation. We turn heads. But don‟t confuse us with actors or models–

those people you feel like you know because you read so much about them in the tabloids, but who are actually completely boring

compared to the roles they play or the ballads they sing. There‟s nothing boring about me or my friends, and the more I tell you

about us, the more you‟ll be dying to know. I‟ve kept quiet until now, but if I don‟t share it with the world now I‟m absolutely going

to burst! A lot of people have packed they‟re bags to leave, come-June. The steps of the college will no longer be graced with their

splendour. What I‟ll be telling you‟ll is how all of that has affected the lives of each one around here. Let‟s start with some harmless

examples-A certain K coming around to become something as huge as Prezzz, how a certain Q has stepped on a few toes because of

a recent development, How “little” C, working through just ahem “DECOR!” comes around to become something “bigger”!, Is it

just talent or is it simply buttering the right people‟s derrieres? ;) Maybe, a little bit of both! :D Are my ears deceiving me? Or are

people really unhappy with the choice of President and Council? How a certain „A‟ lands VP? Close friendship with the soon-to-be-

IPP sure helps, doesn‟t it now? ;). How an organised P is trying to cash in on her best friend H‟s popularity by assuming her role for

one of the biggest club projects? How an A has changed colours and has turned very sweet towards a K, after he was announced to

lead the club, next year? How that same K is also being buttered by a D, an old friend and new right hand? A certain J, a prominent

MUN face is coming back in a big way! Does she have another reason? Has it something to do with a guy? Do we hear right? Are B

and N, known-to-be-friends, crossing swords over an RCJC big project? Another B happens to be doing a lot of “work”, although of

another kind! ;) Courtesy, an E! But, come closer! Strain your ears! I‟ll get to all of that in a moment. The point is, people are

leaving and a year is coming to an end. And in order to unravel everyone‟s mysteries mentioned above, I‟m going to have to

backtrack to the beginning– the start of our year. Much before Pinnacle. A lot has been dusted under the carpet. Maybe it‟s time we

did a little spring cleaning! ;) An epic such as this requires an observant, quick-witted scribe. That would be me, since I was at the

scene of every crime, and I happen to have an impeccable eye for the most outrageous details. So sit back while I unravel the past

and reveal everyone‟s secrets, because I know everything, and what I don‟t know, I‟ll invent elaborately. PAC secrets. GB gossip. BOD scandals. You‟ll are in for a whirlwind of surprise and drama. I guess the little birdie is changing

it‟s ways. Time to change the name of it to something more outrageous eh? What say Ed? I‟ll be back in the next issue with all the

drama. It‟s going to be worth the wait!

Admit it. You‟re already falling for me. :*
