When Medicare Part D prescription insurance plans have a gap in coverage (sometimes called the "donut hole") in which the beneficiaries generally must begin paying the full cost of their medicines. The doughnut hole kicks in when total drug expenditures by the beneficiary and the plan reach $2,510. The co-pays will no longer apply and members will have to pay OUT-OF-POCKET 100% for prescriptions.
