activity in humans. The aim ofthis prospective, open, andcontrolled parallel-group studywas to investigate the effects ofsupplementation with TMAZ onthe cellular immune system inpatients undergoing treatmentfor immunodeficiency disorder.A total of 61 patients wereadministered daily TMAZ dosesof 1.2 g (Lycopenomin) and 3.6g (Megamin) for 6 to 8 weeks, during which the patients'primary medical therapy wascontinued unchanged. Blood andlymphocyte counts were

performed at baseline and at theend of the study. Blood countparameters were not relevantlyaffected in either of the twotreatment groups. Megaminadministration resulted insignificantly increased CD4+,CD19+, and HLA-DR+lymphocyte counts and asignificantly decreased CD56+cell count. Lycopenomin wasassociated with an increasedCD3+ cell count and a decreasedCD56+ lymphocyte count. Noadverse reactions to thetreatments were observed.

The objective of the experimentwas to investigate the effect ofclinoptilolite (a natural zeolite)supplementation in the ration ofdairy cows on serum beta-

carotene, vitamins A and Econcentrations. Fifty-twoclinically healthy Holstein cowswere randomly assigned to oneof three groups according totheir age and parity. The firstgroup (group A, n = 17), wasoffered a concentrate feedsupplemented with 1.25%clinoptilolite. The second group(group B, n = 17), was offered a

concentrate feed supplementedwith 2.5% clinoptilolite. Thethird group (group C, n = 18),which served as controls, wasoffered the same concentratefeed without clinoptilolitesupplementation. All cows werefed the above concentratescontinuously starting 30 daysbefore the expected parturitionup to the end of lactation. Bloodsamples from individual animals

were collected just before thestart of experiment, at the day ofcalving and, thereafter, atmonthly intervals. All sampleswere tested for serum beta-carotene, vitamins A and Econcentrations. The resultsshowed that the 1.25 and 2.5%

BACKGROUND: Treatment ofcancer-bearing mice and dogswith micronized zeoliteclinoptilolite (MZ) led toimprovement of the overallhealth status, prolongation of lifespan and decrease of tumor sizein some cases. It also reducedlipid peroxidation in the liver ofmice. MATERIALS ANDMETHODS: The experimentswere performed on varioustumor cell cultures and tumor-bearing animals.

Immunohistochemistry was usedto analyze if MZ could interferewith Doxorubicin-induced lipidperoxidation and consequentialproduction of 4-hydroxynonenal(HNE). RESULTS: MZ reducedthe metabolic rate of cancer cellsand increased binding of HNE to

growth stimulation. Humates have longbeen used as folk remedies for a widevariety of illnesses (46). Only in recentyears has serious research investigatedthis natural material from the soil.

These humates are a part of soil humusand play an important role in the livingorganism. Modern farming practiceshave stripped the soil of its humus andno replacements have been used. Thehumic substances have not beenappreciated and as a result not addressedin fertilizing practices. Today, our soilsare low on these humic substances andas a result animals and man are notreceiving adequate amounts in ournormal diet. Research has indicated thatwhen soil humus percentages fall below2%, the soil cannot provide sufficientquantities of humic materials into thecrops grown for the amounts needed bythe living organism. This paper reviewsthose roles that the humic materials playin our lives.SafetyHumate is a safe material and exists inall soils, plants and animals. It is

natural to the food chain and plays arole in the composting of dead matterinto nutrients, transfer of minerals andother roles within the living organism. Many technical papers attest tohumates safety. Scientist at theDrepropetrovish Agricultural Institute inMoscow revealed humate harmless withrespect to blood, cardio-vascularsystem, endocrine system and othervitally important organs using patho-

histological and histochemical methods.Humate does not cause allergicreactions, anaphylaxis (unexpectedreactions) to other medicines; it is anapyrogen. Humate does not haveembryo-toxic properties. The toxicity ofnaturally occurring humic acid isremarkably low (11). The level of

heavy metals that may enter it.Ulmic Acid

Ulmic acid is that portion of the soil thatis soluble in alcohol. It is a darkmaterial semi-solid material. It is little

understood and has little researchhistory. HuminHumin is that portion of the soil that isnon-soluble. It is a dark brown material, extremely high molecular weight and isresponsible for the soils water holdingcapability, crumble and electrostaticconductivity.

Humic SubstanceThe portion of the soil created bydecaying organic matter.Humates exist in many locations aroundthe world, but vary in composition muchthe same way as crude oils. They arehydrocarbons and contain aromatic andheterocyclic structures, carboxyl groups, and nitrogen. They contain fragmentsof DNA, RNA and possess many activehydrogen bonding sites making themvery chemically reactive.

    .

Dairy cattle being fed humates showedimproved feed efficiencies. The controlherd ate an average of 38 lbs. of feeddaily while the test herd consumed 36lbs. daily. Milk production for the testherd increased 1.9 lbs. per day per

animal. Since milk production is adirect function of feed intake, the animalfeed efficiency increased (26).Observational reports from farmers

using the humate in their feedingprograms have reported additionalweight gains and healthy livestock onbeef cattle, hogs, chickens, emus andearthworms.

Health Value Blood PropertiesIt has been found that humic acid indose levels of 100-300 milligrams perkilogram body weight has no effect onbleeding time, clotting time, thrombintime, plate count, or induced plateletaggregation (49). Red blood cells andhemoglobin stay on normal levels underthe influence of humate in comparisonwith control groups (15). Literature hasindicated that the red blood cells havethe capability of carrying higherpercentages of oxygen when in thepresence of humate. Human subjectstaking humate have reported feelings ofeuphoria, similar to hyperventilating,

during the first few days of takinghumate. This euphoria is a result ofadditional oxygen. Healing of injuries,as a result of additional oxygen, is muchquicker. Cutting horses have ankleinflammations frequently from theirrigorous training programs. Healingtimes for these injuries have beenreduced by the usage of humates.

    Mineral Transfer

Humates contain both humic and fulvicacids. The fulvic acid is the chelatorthat carries the minerals. The humicacid acts as dilator increasing the cellwall permeability. This increasedpermeability allows easier transfer ofminerals from the blood to the bone andcells. Testing on cows has indicated an

    11/27

increase of 16% more calcium (48). Ithas been shown that incubation ofcultured human umbilical veinendothelial cells with natural orsynthetic humic acid results in an

enhanced surface expression of tissuefactor activity. There are also changesin intracellular divalent calcium levels(1). Literature reports additionaltransport of iodine from foods into thethyroid glands (2).Just as fulvic acid carries life-sustainingminerals to the body, it also capturesand removes toxic metals from thebody. Detoxification takes place withinfirst three to four days of usage. Bothhuman and animal have reportedlooseness of bowels due todetoxification during this period andreturn to more solid manure after thethird to forth day.

Stress ManagementLiterature has reported that humatesblock or reduce the production of stresscausing hormones. This has beenobserved in animal behavior, in

particular with show calves firstentering the arena. Animals on humateare less affected by the outside stimulusof the crowds or confining areas of thearena. This effect has been noted onsheep, horses, cattle and hogs. In dairyoperations, those animals not on humateaggressively eat their feed rations whilehumate animals leisurely graze.Laboratory testing at Penn State

physically restrained rats by bindingthem to artificially create stress andmeasured hormones known to causestress. Those rats fed humate showedsignificantly less amounts of thosehormones.

Humates within the body work withDNA and cellular division. It has beennoted that the humate tends to preventcellular mutation during reproduction.Several technical papers were noted

during literature research for this paperregarding cancer research with humates.Natural humic acid administeredprophylacticly to rats can decreasesignificantly the amount of gastricmucus damage induced with ethanol.Humic acid also significantlyaccelerated the healing process ofexperimentally induced ulcers (52).

Microbial InteractionHumates are known to stimulatemicrobial activity. In soil testing formicrobial activity, levels increased 400to 5000 times with the introduction ofhumate (300 ppm) into the soil.Humates added to feed rations stimulatethe microbial growth and the extent canbe quite large depending upon thespecies, the culture medium, and theenvironment (45).Humic substances have been alsoknown to exhibit anti-microbial

properties. Species for which naturalhumic substances have been shown tobe inhibitory include C. albican, Ent.Cloacac, Prot. Vulgaris, Ps.Aeruginosa, S. typhimurium, St. aureus,St. epidermidis, and Str pyogenes (12). Itseems that within the body, humatesstimulate the good microbes whilesuppressing the bad microbes.Testing of milk during field trialsindicated a large increase of microbes

within the milk. This is usually anindication to the dairyman of impendingmastitis (tit infection). The oppositeactually happened. Mastitis caseswithin the milking herd dropped froman average of 3 to 4 cases daily to 4cases in a month (26). Additionalconformation of reduction of mastitis

was observed in lactating female goats.Three female goats with severe mastitiswere administered doses of humate overa two-week period. At the end of 7days, swelling of the mammary glands

had subsided and the goats were back tonormal activity allowing the kids tonurse without discomfort.

Immune SystemHumates boaster the immune system.Dr. Daryl See, MD, Immunologist ofUCLA Medical School suggests that themechanism is related to the humatesability to complex sugars within thebody. The abundance of these complexsugars allows the body to manufactureglycoproteins that attach to the killerand T cell acting as a modulator orcommunication link between the cells. This regulates the immune system cellsand prevents either the T or Killer cellsfrom becoming out of balance.Excessive killer cells can attack boneand joints causing arthritis. Conversely, excessive T cells can cause auto-immune diseases.

Along this same line, burn victims andradiation sickness experience immunesystem responses that attack the bodiesdead cells creating unwanted infections.Humates cause the immune system torecognize its own dead cells therebyreducing infection. Baylor MedicalSchool is currently researching humatesboth topically applied and internallydosed for burn victims to reduceinfections. Russian scientists are using

the same principle for the treatment ofradiation sickness. Sodium humate hasbeen found to increase the lifespan ofmongrel rats exposed to lethal doses ofcobalt radiation (8).

Anti-inflammatory PropertiesHumic acids isolated from peat

    14/27

exhibited significant efficacy foradhesions when tested on female ratsthat had standardized lesions placed onboth uterine horns and the peritoneumof the anterior abdominal wall (1).

Humic substances, including peat andsodium humates, are known to exhibitanti-inflammatory properties (47).Inflammatory states of the cervix, especially cervical erosion (generallyknown as cervicitis) can be treated withhumic preparations (41).Not only does the humate relieveswelling from joint inflammation, it hasbeen shown to bond to the collagenfibers to aid in repair of damagedtendons and bone. Tendon strength hasbeen shown to increase by as much as75% (9) (48).

Anti-Viral PropertiesHumates are effective media additivesfor the production of antibiotics in thesoil (45).Humic substances have long beenknown to exhibit antiviral properties (44)

    in particular rhinoviruses (35). Viral

    pathogens for which soil-extractmaterials have been shown to beeffective include in particular Coxsackievirus A9 (34), herpes simplex virus type 1and 2 (10),(11), (21), (29), (36), and (37), humanimmunodeficiency virus (HIV) (22), (30),(31), (38), and (39), influenza type A and B (22),(35), (38), and (40), as well as other respiratorytract infections. (33), (34), (35), (37), and (41).The mechanism whereby humic

substances inhibit the cytopathicity of anumber of viruses has been studied insome depth. It is thought that thematerials prevent viral replicating bysorbing onto the viral envelope proteinand thereby blocking the sorption ofviral particles to cell surfaces (31).

    15/27

Humic acids have also been employedas veterinary medicine therapysuccessfully employing peat mull(extracted humic acid) to prevent thetransmission of foot and mouth disease

in pigs (33). Humate is a pharmacy thatraises non-specific organism resistance. This fact was confirmed by using suchmodels as atoxic anemia, toxic hepatitis, peptic ulcer and hypercholesterolemia(15).

Liver EffectsThe effect of natural humic acid on theregenerative response of liver tissue hasbeen examined in rats submitted to two-thirds hipatectomy. Long termapplication of humic acid resulted in thestimulation of omithine decarboxylase,an increase in spermidine and histamineas well as DNA and RNA levels, and inoverall liver mass (50). Humic as well asfulvic acids extracted from peat havebeen shown to stimulate respiration inrat liver mitochondria when present atconcentrations of 40-360 microgramsper ml. Humic substances atconcentrations of 40-400 micrograms

per ml. also increased the efficiency ofoxidative phosphorylation inmitochondria in vitro, particularly aftercontact periods of over 1 hour(51).

A large part of the humate takes anactive part in the liver metabolism. Theuse of humate plays a role in the liverfunction and protects it somewhat fromdisease and/or disturbances (15).

Detoxifying PropertiesFulvic acid, a component of humate, is astrong chelator. It is unique in itschelating ability. Life sustainingminerals, when chelated by fulvic, areplaced in a chemical state (phyto-state)such that they are readily absorbed bythe cell or organism. Toxic heavy

  • 8/14/2019 Zeolitefacts.org Zeolite Cures Cancer Page 4

    16/27

metals are also chelated but placed in achemical state that is difficult forcellular absorption. Fulvic acid in thesoil acts as a filter for toxic metals. Itwill grab the a toxic metal and

immobilize it which prevents it frommigrating or chemically reacting. Whencrops are grown on soils deficient infulvic acid, toxic metals can be absorbedby the plant and passed into the foodchain. Many of our foods present todayare grown under conditions of wornout soil. As a result, more toxic metalsare being ingested. Fulvic acid has thecapability of removing these toxicmetals from the body.

Odor ReductionTexas A&M University Systemresearchers have discovered that usinghumate decreases volatile ammonia inanimal waste by 64%, reduces odor, andimproves the nitrogen to phosphorusration in the waste. Scientist aredeveloping ration formulations toenhance manure characteristics whilemaintaining animal performance as wellas devising other approached to

maintain feedlot efficiency and managewaste (25).

Observations from field trials on dairyanimals indicate a more completedigestion of feed as observed from themanure and urine. Manure from thehumate test herd consisted of fineparticle, low odor matter while controlanimals contained lumps of corn andstraw and high ammonia odors. Urine

from the test herd was clear andodorless while the control herd wasamber with odor(25). A similar effecthas been observed on hogs.

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) (rotten eggodor) has also been reduced by theaddition of humate to the mix. Wagner

  • 8/14/2019 Zeolitefacts.org Zeolite Cures Cancer Page 4

    17/27

Quarries Company has demonstratedreductions in H2S by humateinteraction. The mechanism is not fullyunderstood, but results indicate goododor reduction (23).

    Miscellaneous Properties

Chemically (strophantinum) inducedheart stoppage in frogs wasexamined. Frogs that were givenhumate continuously for 10 days priorto the drug increased the time of heartactivity 48.7% in comparison with thecontrol group. Additionally theprotective property of the humate wasrevealed when toxic doses of strychnine(inhibits metabolism in the centralnervous system) were administered totest mice. Those mice (70%) givenhumate 10 days prior to the treatmentlived while 100% of the control died (15).

Case HistoriesBeef CattleTexas A&M under the leader

ship of Dr. Chirase performed humatefeeding trials on steers at a feedlot in theAmarillo area. Reported results of the

56-day study indicated a 12% increasein feed efficiency. Manure samples wereof a fine texture with reduced odor.Blood data indicated increases inhemoglobin and antioxidants (53).Follow up testing on the odor indicateda 64% reduction in ammonia from theanimal waste when humate was mixedinto it (24).

A farmer in Waco, Texas, mixed

humates into the rations of a mature cowand three calves. Reports after 60 daysindicated coloration and health of theanimals to be excellent. Weight gain onthe calves was reported to be above thenorm. Although no usable data wascollected on this test, the cattleman didreport something that was significant.

  • 8/14/2019 Zeolitefacts.org Zeolite Cures Cancer Page 4

    18/27

He had been trying to breed the cowover a three-year period withoutsuccess. During the testing period, thecow became pregnant.

    Dairy Test

Canton, Texas. This test wasrun on 500 high producing dairy cattleover a 28-day period. Milk, blood andanimal waste were analyzed before, during and after the testing period. Theintroduction of the humate into the dietproduced 1.9 pounds of extra milk dailyper animal. The feed consumptiondropped from 38 lbs. per day to 36 lbs.per day during the test. At theconclusion of the test period, consumption returned to 38 lbs. Withthese changes in feed quantities, it canbe concluded that the animal wasdigesting its nutrient more completely, thus creating greater milk production.Additionally the humates produced acalming effect on the animals asexhibited by lowered aggressiveness ineating and reduced the effects of heatstresses produced by summer

temperatures. Lactation decline curvesflattened significantly during the testingperiod. This indicates that longermilking periods can be achieved raisingthe cumulative amounts of milkreceived from each cow. Odors fromthe animal wastes were reduced. Lessvolumes of manure and reductions inammonia odor results in less waste andreduces the effects of potential insectborn diseases (26).

    GoatsSunset, Texas. Nursing female

goats were experiencing mastitis (titinfection) and would not allow the kidsto nurse. Humate was introduced intothe ration and within one week all

infection had cleared up.Brady, Texas. Angora goats are

being fed humate to improve the qualityof the wool. Reports from the wool

buyers indicate that the humate fedgoats have longer staple and morelanoline in the wool. Pricing on angorawool is based on quality.

    Hogs

Dr. Matt Colvin, DMV reports that he isusing humates in the diet to treat scoursin piglets. His experience with thehumates indicates that it is a veryeffective treatment. Additionally, he isreporting additional weight gain withmeat that is lean with good textured andexcellent taste. Reproduction from thehumate fed sows is excellent andproduces larger than normal piglets.

Rattan (Ostrich, Emus)Clayton, New Mexico. A farmer

raising ostrich has reported plumagedevelopment on young birds has been

accelerated. Eggshell development isexcellent and uniform. The yokes arereported to be firmer. A greaterpercentage of hatchings are beingproduced. The farmer also reported thathoof rotation has ceased to be aproblem. Hoof rotation is a problem onlong legged animals. It results whentendon and muscle grow faster thanbone in young animal and results in aclubfoot. Prior to the humate, the

farmer was experiencing about 5% ofhis young birds experiencing somedegree of hoof rotation. Since theintroduction of humate, bone growth haskept up with muscle grown and reducedhoof rotation problems to below 0.5%.

    Waco, Texas. The farmer was

raising emus. Since the market price onemus had fallen, he was allowing theflock to forage and supplementing withmillet (a low cost feed). At the time thehumates were introduced into the diet,

the birds were in poor to fair shape. Hotsummer temperatures had taken theirtoll on the birds and plumage and skinwere in poor condition. Humate wasfed over a 60-day period. The health ofthe birds greatly improved and plumagebecame excellent with bright coloring.Under hot dry conditions the females donot start the reproduction cycle until latefall when the summer heat breaks. Thefemales in this flock started thereproduction cycle in mid September(still hot). The only way this canhappen is for the bird to be in excellenthealth.

    ChickensPurcell, Oklahoma. Two pens

(20 each) of newly hatched chicks wereused for a test and control. The test

birds were fed humate in the diet whilethe control was not. Featherdevelopment came earlier on the humatebirds. The test group was fullyfeathered a full week ahead of thecontrol group. Weight gain of the testgroup after 30 days amounted to 1.5pound more mass than the controlgroup. Of notice was the calming factorof the humate. One could enter the testpen and the birds continued with their

normal pecking and wanderings whilethose in the control pen would becameextremely excited and run withwildness. The test was continuedonward for a period of six months. Themature birds were monitored for eggproduction. Eggs shells from thehumate group were thicker and more

uniform in size. Hatchling chicks fromthe test group were larger and moreactive.

    Horses

    Excerpt of letter from cutting

horse owner in Boyd, Texas. I startedusing humate in my horses 6 years ago.I have found that even in the winterwhen the animals hair is long andcoarse, that my horses have a deep, rich, shining coat and bright eyes. They arevery alert but not hyper. I havent had asick horse in years and their hoovesgrow well and hold a shoe extremelywell. My horses overall health andperformance, since I have been feedingthe humate is excellent.

    Willow Springs, Texas. Willow

Springs is the site of a large trainingarea for racing and cutting horses for theDallas Fort Worth metroplex. Thetraining regimen for these animals isquite intense. Front ankle injuries withswelling are quite common and requireseveral weeks of inactivity to heal

properly. This inactivity extends theexpensive training time. Several of thetrainers tested the humates in theiranimals. They found that healing timesfor the ankle injuries were reduced byone to two weeks. In timing trials, thehumate horses were performing better. It is not uncommon for a quarter horseon humate to be able to shed a fewtenths of the second on his time. Inquarter horse racing those few tenths

can mean the difference betweenwinning and losing.Fort Worth, Texas. This horse

was a successful registered westernpleasure paint that suddenly came upwith severe degenerating hooves. Theattending farrier hadnt seen such a

sever case in years. On all four hooves, there was insufficient nail to place ashoe. Humate was introduced into theration. Hoof grow out was immediatelyoutstanding. Shoes were able to be put

on in about 4 to 5 months and the horsewas back in the show ring. The farrierwas shocked at the improvement.
