Is the CroatIan wIne produCtIon In the agony of the global CrIsIs or In the Calm of the
forthComIng export expansIon?
taking into consideration that Croatian viniculture and wine production are one of the rare economic
branches which had a signiicant success in the development of its own potentials in the new Croatia, numerous questions have been raised in these global and crisis-devastat-ed market relations regarding the challenges for creating the common market identity of Croatian wines and wine producers at the global wine market.Champions and pioneers of the Cro-atian wine scene such as Zdjelarevic, plenkovic, enjingi, Krauthaker, Katunar, skaramuca, and numerous others, smaller or larger wine pro-ducers, who encouraged the general popularisation of this highly ap-preciated production branch in the world back in the period of pre-war Croatia, nowadays surely counting the bills from their investments, even though they are objectively still burdened with the original capital accumulation and investment risks. after the initial twenty-ive years of arduous, yet very successful devel-opment of small and medium-sized wineries, the large wineries such as Kutjevo, belje, Ilocki podrumi, agrolaguna and others have inally been reincarnated in the new entre-preneurial spirit, refreshed with big entrepreneurs’ capital.he already serious wine scene has additionally been spiced up with new, so-called lifestyle investors. hey have turned the foundations of their market identity from hedonism of their personal attitude toward wine into their own afordable expensive hobby in the aspiration to achieve a social status which raises the wine creators’ reputation in the quality enhancement of their exist-ing social status.encouraged with the initial enthusi-asm of wine hedonism and individ-ual market reputation of numerous new wine makers in almost all Cro-atian wine production regions at the local level of speciic regions, new awareness has been raised to come together in the process of deining common goals and creating quality market communication. as a logical consequence of the process, an umbrella association for Croatian wine production at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce has been established, which raised the awareness by joint eforts in the nick of time for the need of developing Croatian umbrella market identity under a very clever working name called “he Croatian wine mosaic.”hus we inally reached the well-known fact that, regardless of the
numerous individual successes in our mutual competition, we cannot be self-suicient since we are only at the threshold of revelation that the key issue of future survival of Croatian wine production at the global wine scene is conditioned by raising aware-ness for the need of fast and well-de-signed, targeted and quality market actions in creating common national market identity and reputation in “he Croatian wine mosaic” project.
Are there good solutions on this path?
the Croatian wine scene is nowadays at a signiicant milestone on the survival path, both in the great
competition in the domestic produc-tion at the domestic market and in the global wine market.following the initial enthusiastic fervour and realistic perspective, numerous successful investments in Croatian wine production nowadays have a bit of a bitter aftertaste bur-dened by crisis at the domestic and world market, conditioned especially by great competition, the fall of purchasing power and a large drop in prices which undermine business proitability. many of us, who have invested a lot in the desire to make a faster progress, have more diiculties in dealing with this situation. It is very important to understand that wine production is a business which requires almost urgent, continuous and large investments in basic means and technologies in the initial devel-opment stage.unfortunately, the original capital accumulation in this business is not suicient for the amortisation of such investments. at the time the developed capitalist wine countries had already solved this issue, we have not even started the new in-vestment cycle. many of our neigh-bouring countries in transition have already activated strategic partner-ship investments which have enabled domestic wine makers to survive in the fast-growing global compe-tition, and surely, many Croatian wine makers will inevitably require such a step forward in the process of sustainable survival.exactly these processes, no matter how necessary they may be, can sometimes also be painful because they bring along an uncertainty on the desired path toward success. however, our people sometimes see such decisions as a weakness in the sense of losing personal identity of a particular wine maker. nevertheless, since every medal has two sides, it
is clear that in such processes you always win some, even though you also might lose some.still, the reality is that on the usual life path of its own development, each company has its critical mo-ments in almost inevitable processes of transformation from a small into a medium-sized and large enterprise. he most important fact remains to recognise risks and your own poten-tials on time, and clearly deine de-velopment goals, i.e. decide whether to keep the company within the frames of a small family production or to readily take up the challenge of further development brought along by the necessary transformation.for those who decide to take the step of further intensive develop-ment and enter potential partnership strategic investments, as I have, it is crucial to deine relations in advance and achieve a sustainable relations model in which all investors un-reservedly give their entire capital contribution, and especially their personal social capital for the beneit of the common company with clear and honest goals.In such relations, diferent view-points may always arise, and they require necessary, sustainable and viable, realistic economic logics and great mutual respect.
What to expect from future joint projects?
If we set aside a partial feeling of powerlessness in the fear of large demands set before us on the path of the inevitable forthcom-
ing process of joint branding of Croa-tia on the world wine scene, we must turn back and take a realistic look at everything we have, and under which circumstances, achieved in the devel-opment of the Croatian wine scene. regardless of all current diiculties, we must be proud and satisied!signiicant steps in creating a stable and irm regional identity are already seen in the working strategies of local and regional associations, and there are sound development strat-egies, which surely bring along the possibility of achieving commonly set goals, in the umbrella association for Croatian wine production at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce at the national level. strong regional branding in consortiums of grasevi-na, malvazija and plavac mali, as already recognised indigenous values of Croatian wine production, is the only right way. on this path to success, no one in this world has ever skipped a single
development stage or step, so let us be patient and remain ready for large renunciations and a lot of hard work. In today’s world, there is still a place for persistent people, so let us cast away all theses and political phrases on revivals and reforms of already reformed reformists, and as they say, stick to our guns, because Croatian wine production has only embarked on its world’s journey.It is a well-known fact in our pro-fession that a vineyard, which has not been hoed, has not yielded any fruit, and no wine has seen the light of day without sweat and tears. he reward itself we get from tasting this intoxicating nectar, is a worthy reward for our sacriice, therefore, it goes without saying, wIne and wIne maKers wIll surely surVIVe!

1985.PRVA PRIVATNA VINARIJA U HRVATSKOJobiteljska vinarija Zdjelarević, prva je privatna vinarija,koja je 1985.g. u bivšoj Jugoslaviji,pokrenula u hrvatskoj proces revitalizacije privatnog poduzetništva
1987.EDUKATIVNO STUDIJSKO PUTOVANJE U AMERIKUtijekom studija agronomije u Zagrebu, davor Zdjelarević usavršio je temelje vizije svoga poslovnog razvoja jednogodišnjim boravkom u americi (napa i sonoma) u tada najprosperitetnijim vinskim regijama Kalifornije.
1991.PODIZANJE NOVIH NASADA U BRODSKOM STUPNIKUnaslijedivši obiteljsko imanje u brodskom stupniku, davor Zdjelarević zajedno sa suprugom Višnjom kreće u revitalizaciju obiteljskog nasljeđa sadnjom prvih 10 hektara vinograda i gradnjom svoje nove vinarije.
1997.IZ ZAGREBA U BRODSKI STUPNIKpostavivši nove ciljeve daljnjega razvoja, mlada obitelj Zdjelarević s kćerkama Injom i Klarom seli iz Zagreba u brodski stupnik!
2000.POČETAK IZGRADNJE NOVE VINARIJE I HOTELAuvidjevši potencijal daljnjeg razvoja, obitelj Zdjelarević pokreće dovršetak gradnje novog podruma, a zatim hotela i restorana s ciljem razvoja vinskoga turizma na destinaciji.

extremely light wines with a lower
alcohol content. hese are a young
one-year-old wine characterized
by accentuated soft, primarily loral and fruity
aromas, and a pronounced lightness of long
duration. as such, they are focused on the new
upcoming trend of relaxed social enjoyment
in wine as a daily refreshment in places not
demanding high gastronomy. let’s reduce the
need for great rituals to make it easier to enjoy
the wine.
Z light posebno je kreirana serija izrazito laganih vina sa nižim
postotkom alkohola. to su mlada jednogodišnja vina koja
karakteriziraju naglašeno nježne, primarno cvjetne i voćne

razvijenost hrvatske vinske scene
velika je za naše uvjete no još
uvijek vrlo mala u usporedbi sa
svjetskim tržištima.. Iz obitelji
Zdjelarević napominju kako je:

hrvatska kao vinska zemlja samo
jedna mala draguljarnica ukupne
svjetske vinske scene.”
Iz predmetnih razloga više nego
ikad kvalitetno deinirana vinska
karta u ugostiteljskim objektima
temelj je poštivanja vinara i
gastronomske struke u cijelosti.
obzirom na današnji broj vina
i vinara na hrvatskom tržištu to
je dosta kompleksna materija pa
u kreiranju dobra Vinska karta
treba poštivati ragionalnu, tipsku i
sortnu podjelu I zastupljenost.
upravo zbog toga, obitelj
Zdjelarević sa svojim timom
stručnih osoba nudi i konzultacije
u kreiranju vinskih karti. svaka
vinska karta ovisno o tipu lokala
zahtijeva individualan pristup.
