His Excellency RuBEn Zamora The Ambassador of El Salvador to the United States
Rubén Zamora is Ambassador of El Salvador to the United States. From 2009 to 2013, he was Ambassador of El Salvador to India. A long-career politician and diplomat, Mr. Zamora was council member of the Mayor’s Office in San Salvador in the 1970s. In 1980, he was one of the founders of the Democratic Revolutionary Front Party (FDR). During the civil war in El Salvador, he was forced to leave the country. Upon his return, he helped found the Democratic Convergence Party and was a member of the Peace Commission (1991-1993) and a congressman in El Salvador’s Legislative Assembly (1991-1994; 1997-2000). He graduated as an Attorney at Law from the University of El Salvador, and later obtained a Master’s degree in Political Science from Essex University, England. He has been a Visiting Professor at Stanford University and Guest Investigator at Notre Dame University and the Wilson Center. His publications include El Salvador, Wounds that Don’t Heal: Post-war Political Parties and The Salvadoran Leftist Partisan: Between Identity and Power.
