Newborn Screening Awareness Week

With the theme,“Newborn Screening: A healthy start towards a

baby’s healthy life”

“We prick because we care”

Children/Babies are the greatest gifts parents long to have. They are the

future leaders of tomorrow...

Thus, with this belief, every child deserves to be nurtured essentially in order to grow and live a fruitful

life…

One way of nurturing them and making sure that they live and grow normally is starting

30-48 hours after birth through the “Newborn Screening Test”.

To save these babies from mental retardation, Zamboanga Doctors’ Hospital

(ZDH) strongly supports the Newborn Screening Program by providing the said

service.

To commemorate the “Newborn Screening Awareness

Week”, Zamboanga Doctors’ Hospital came up with an advocacy project to promote the importance and educate the public on “Newborn Screening”

itself.

A streamer was hanged outside the hospital which is facing the roadside along Veterans Avenue and posters

were also put up on the bulletin boards.

Along the lobby area of the hospital, from 8am- 5pm film viewing on Newborn Screening was shown.

T-shirts were designed for the staff to wear in support for the Newborn

Screening Advocacy…

A simple pamphlet with basic information about newborn screening was

circulated.

On October 6, 2011 a pictorial campaign was held at 8 am in the

hospital premises where in some of the visiting doctors also joined to support by wearing the designed

shirts.

The circulated pamphlets were also distributed on the same date.

To advocate the message of newborn screening and distribute the said

pamphlets, room to room visits was done to the expecting mothers, post partum mothers, and post operative caesarian section patients from the various private rooms/wards where

these patients were admitted.

Not only did they visit the in-patients but also the out patients seeking consultation at the Obstetric & pediatric clinics of the hospital.

By the end of the awareness week, Zamboanga Doctors’ Hospital does

not stop celebrating by simply promoting, but being equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitude, it continues supporting the program

through implementation 365 days of the year.

That is why we are blessed to receive this national award…

With or without recognition, for as long as it’s saving lives, we’re always willing to go that

extra mile because that’s what we are called to do.

For 45 years of service, with this year’s hospital anniversary theme: “Strength renewed, life

sustained” we shall strive to continue in providing efficient, safe and quality care to

our patients from all walks of life.
