Minutes of General Membership Meeting
10/17/2009
MEDAH General Membership Meeting at Stadium Park, King and Isenberg Streets.
In attendance were MEDAH members: President Amy Bright, Vice President Willow Chang, Treasurer Dorothy Wheeler, and
Member-at-Large Bob McKeand.
There was not a quorum (one third, 9 of 27 members); therefore the general membership meeting was canceled.
In lieu of a general membership meeting, President Amy Bright called a board meeting at 12:50 p.m.

10/17/2009
MEDAH Board Meeting, 10/17/2009, at Stadium Park, King and Isenberg Streets.
The Meeting was called to order at 12:50 p.m. by President Amy Bright.
In Attendance were MEDAH Members: President Amy Bright, Vice President Willow Chang, Treasurer Dorothy Wheeler, Secre-
tary Renée Arnold, Member-at-Large Bob McKeand.
Minutes were read by the Board.
Motion was made by Amy Bright and seconded by Bob McKeand, to accept the Minutes as read; all were in favor and the
motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Dorothy Wheeler.
MEDAH has $2134.00 including outstanding checks to two members who
overpaid dues and were reimbursed. Dorothy will pass these reimbursement checks through the bank once more.
Old Business:
The Halloween haflah was cancelled because Beth Biller, the sponsoring member, had a business trip which conflicted.
Archives – Bob McKeand presented a proposal for archiving the MEDAH
videos, photographs and Zagoreet (Z) issues. The proposal includes a higher quality of product and a lower price of $10
per video event. The previous proposal was $15 per event. Payment would begin at $100 for 10 events per DVD. The Z
would be scanned at the rate of $2.00 per issue.
There was discussion about the process of scanning the Z issues, where the scanning would be done, and it was decided to
first determine the number of issues per year, beginning in 1989. Amy Bright made a motion to accept the proposal and
Willow Chang seconded the motion; the motion passed unanimously.
Rundown of the Year 2009 – The following were accomplished:

More community involvement – Amy Bright made it a MEDAH goal to expand in this area by making new contacts.
Makiki Festival – our first involvement was a huge success and we have been asked to return by the organizer, Janet
Lee Maduli who is an entertainment agent. This is a new venue for MEDAH which could lead to participation in
SUNSET ON THE BEACH.

against the idea. A special guest artist has been invited to perform for the community and to promote a possible show.

Vet Center – Member Bob McKeand researched this center in Foster Gardens as a possible venue for future MEDAH events.
There is ample parking and it would attract a completely new audience. It is in a central location and costs for rental are
reasonable. A very large room is $70-80/hour; smaller dining room is $50/hour. Bob thinks a lower fee could be possi-
ble, as the venue’s director seemed eager for our business. It was thought the venue would be best for a show, but not for
a fundraiser. The public could be charged entrance with the purpose of defraying costs of rental. The board discussed
prices and length of time. A Valentines Party, including dancing, pupus and a $10 charge for non-MEDAH members
was discussed. It was suggested that Ward’s is best for fundraisers because of the mailing list and the art-supporting
audience that frequents that venue.
Nominating committee – there was a proposal to go back to a simpler way of voting that would not involve balloting, but
rather have members write in their choice of candidate. After President Bright and Secretary Arnold asked member
Jessica Rose to review the MEDAH Bylaws and the Roberts Rules of Order, member Rose made it clear that not only
would having members write in their choice of candidate be unrealistic, since everyone would be a candidate, whether or
not they would be willing and/or able to serve in office, but it was against the Bylaws, which are clear in that balloting
and nominations are how the Board is elected. Voting will continue via nominations and balloting.
Willow Chang made a motion that MEDAH buy a copy of Robert’s Rules of Order to be brought to the meetings. The motion
was seconded by Amy Bright and passed. The previous MEDAH copy of Robert’s Rules of Order was list in transition
from the previous Board to this one.
The next meeting was set for 6 p.m. on November 14 at University Burger King, 2536 S. Beretenia.
A motion was made by Amy Bright to adjourn the meeting at 2:40 p.m. and was seconded by Renée Arnold.

MEDAH Board Meeting, 11/28/2009, at University Burger King, Beretania Street.
The Meeting was called to order at 3:14 p.m. by President Amy Bright.
In Attendance were MEDAH Members: President Amy Bright, Treasurer Dorothy Wheeler, Secretary Renée Arnold and Member
-at-Large Bob McKeand.

Motion was made by Dorothy Wheeler and seconded by Bob McKeand, to accept the Minutes as read; all were in favor
and the motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Dorothy Wheeler.
MEDAH has $2,043.16. $5.00 was paid to the State of Hawaii Department of Consumer Affairs Business Registration
Division, for the annual tax filing. The addresses of Amy Bright and Renée Arnold were submitted and the previous
board members were removed; the new board members were added.
Old Business:
Elections – the board discussed the nominations process and the names of members who were nominated.
Haflah - December 12 at Ward’s Rafters; doors open at 6 p.m.; dancing begins at 7:30 p.m. Lights, decoration and food
was discussed. In order to drum up new membership, it was decided that the board would call former members and in-
vite them to come to the haflah and perform. It was suggested to ask all members about their interests and ask them
how MEDAH could serve them. There was a suggestion to showcase all the teachers and their styles in future events.
Bob McKeand’s archiving proposal was discussed. Treasurer Wheeler wrote a check of $200 to Bob for seed money to
begin archiving of the Z and the videos per the proposal accepted at the last meeting.
New Business:
There was no new business.
The next meeting will be announced after the new board is elected.
A motion was made by Amy Bright to adjourn the meeting at 4:05 p.m. and was seconded by Dorothy Wheeler.
