It’s a star, its a plane ,no it’s a huge condor!
• The California Condor is known to be the largest bird in North America. It has the wing span of 43-54”(7-8 meters).
Now that is a big bird!
• Although it looks like a beast, it’s a bird.• It lives in open spaces (that way it will
see it’s prey!)• It never migrates not once, not twice,
never( it loves the cold!)
• Diet: carrion• Predators of eggs/young: raven, golden
eagle• Predators of adults: bobcats & racoons.
Endangered: yes
• Condors are not fast enough to lift off in time before ground predators .So the condor will not escape in time before coming prey.
Stop It’s the Law
• This condor was almost extinct. 6 years ago, there were only about 20 condors left.
• This bird doesn’t start laying eggs until it is 6 or 7 years old. Then it only lays one egg every 2 years.
• Laws were passed . you couldn’t hunt the condor like you can't hunt the bald eagle in USA. The condor was protected. Its numbers were still going down, though. Finally, all the condors were captured to be put in captive breeding to repopulate the condors.
