racquetballA fun, fast-paced game played on our indoor courts in which theserving player stands on the service line, and on the serve, heor she must bounce the ball, and then hit it toward the wall infront of him or her. The ball must then make it behind the serverto a line known as the short line. If it does not, it is a fault. If itdoes, the ball is in play, and the receiving player, who stands ata line behind the "short line," may hit the ball so that it hits thefront wall. Players can only earn a point on a serve, which the re-ceiving player gains if he or she wins the rally. Points are earnedif the opposing player's ball bounces twice before being hit or ifa player hits a ball that does not reach the front wall. Play to 15points. The YWCA has two racquetball courts that can be re-served up to one week in advance.Rec Free Basic and non members pay day pass fee

donor spotlightI have been a member of the YWCA since I moved to Gettysburg when Iwas 10 years old. Over the last 30 years the YW has served me well asa daycare provider and as a fitness center with swimming, diving andtennis lessons, and personal training, not to mention the racquetball andbasketball courts. I have used them all! The YW has wonderful fitnessfacilities and classes. I have always found something to fit my needs aslife changes and challenges my time and schedule. We support the YWCA because it is a critical component to the healthand fitness of our family. It is so comforting to have a place like the YWfor my son and I to go and hang out together or participate in our ownactivities. We spend lots of time at the YW and have developed long-lasting friendships. Like I have, I just know that Liam will find a lifetime offun at the YW! We love the YW!

Her positive attitude and love for children is obvious through the strongrelationships she has with children and parents. She has created a safe, happy environment that both the YW and the parents applaud. Cathy is a wonderful helper who provides crafts for each holiday and also brings special gifts for each kid. The children in TLC lovespending time with Jen and Cathy as their parents work out.

hip Two years ago, my husband and I de-

cided to try to get healthy. When we firstcame to the fitness center, I would walkon the treadmill, and my husband wouldencourage me to speed up to 3 mph. When he would walk away, I would turn itdown. I was in such bad shape that justwalking upstairs to put away laundrymade my heart race and I’d have troublebreathing. What brought me to this point? To copewith a physical trauma I experienced inmy teens, I turned to food. I became ad-dicted to eating, and I stopped weighingmyself when I hit 230 pounds. I was asize 20, and at one point I spent threemonths in bed with pneumonia and de-pression. After that, I knew I was eithergoing to have to make a change or I wasgoing to die of a heart attack. At a Christian festival I attended, I wasable to experience internal healing fromthis trauma that drove me to overeat. Ifelt I was no longer a victim; I was a sur-vivor. I realized that by allowing that pasthurt to destroy my life, the only person Iwas hurting was myself.

As I continued working out in the fitnesscenter, I would hear all the participants inthe Zumba classes laughing and havinga great time. I walked into Allison Kel-ley’s class one evening, and I just could-n’t keep up. I left in tears after one song.Allison saw this and encouraged me tocome back. It felt good to know thatsomeone cared. I continued to come toclass, and I would try to stay for onemore song each time. In the past year, I’ve lost 80 pounds. Myaddiction to food has turned into a pas-sion for fitness and helping encourageothers. I work out up to three hours aday, doing Bootcamp and Zumba andthen sometimes going home and takinga walk with my husband. It’s a whole dif-ferent lifestyle!Allison was very instrumental in encour-aging me, and I watch as she does it forso many women. Now I try to encourageothers, telling them to not give up. Peo-ple tell me that I am an inspiration tothem, and being able to help other peo-ple makes all the difference.
