BIOGRAPHY YURI HONING

For almost three decades Yuri Honing is one of the

leading saxophone players in the Netherlands, touring

worldwide. 1996 marks the breakthrough in his

international career, after the release of the Yuri Honing

Trio’s album “Stark Trek” – with his longtime friend and

associate drummer Joost Lijbaart and double bassist

Tony Overwater.

Yuri is a multi-Edison Award winning musician for his

albums “Seven” (with Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motian - 2002) and

“Goldbrun” (Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet – 2018) and he won the most prestigious

Dutch Boy Edgar Prize 2012. He collaborated with a.o. Charlie Haden, Pat Metheny,

Scott Colley, Vince Mendoza and dance producer Floris Kinkert. The dance album

“Phase Five” reached the European pop music album top 100 charts.

Besides a musician Yuri Honing is a professional painter and sculptor, collaborating

with his artist/composer Mariecke van der Linden.

Throughout his career the Dutch double

bassist/composer/producer Jasper Somsen has

collaborated with some of the very best musicians at

the international jazz scene, a.o. Enrico Pieranunzi, Joey

Calderazzo, Jeff Ballard, John Beasley, Jean-Michel Pilc,

Bob Sheppard, Seamus Blake, Lynne Arriale, Jorge

Rossy, Kendrick Scott, Justin Faulkner, EJ Strickland,

André Ceccarelli, Gary Husband, Gabriele Mirabassi,

Bert Joris, Ramón Valle, Yuri Honing and Eric Vloeimans.

His latest release are two highly acclaimed albums: “A

New Episode In Life part I & II” – Jasper Somsen Trio

feat. Jean-Michel Pilc & André Ceccarelli.

Jasper performs worldwide, is a renowned studio producer, can be heard on 40

albums and was a frequently invited guest teacher at the conservatories in

Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Arnhem.

BIOGRAPHY JOOST LIJBAART

Drummer/percussionist Joost Lijbaart is one of the most

internationally renowned Dutch musicians, performing

recently all over the world with a.o. the Yuri Honing

Acoustic Quartet and his own projects at the major

venues and festivals, in more than 90 countries. Over

two decades of collaboration with saxophonist Yuri

Honing, they released five trio albums (with double

bassist Tony Overwater) and toured regularly, featuring

musicians from the Middle East, India and China.

Besides being a sideman Joost Lijbaart focuses on his

own projects as a leader, such as his “Group of Friends”, his duo with ECM recording

pianist Wolfert Brederode, the group “Batik” and his recently formed improvisation

trio “Under The Surface”.

At the North Sea Jazz Festival 2003 Joost Lijbaart won the soloist prize at the Dutch

jazz competition, handed officially by Elvin Jones. He is a regular guest lecturer at

conservatories around the world.
