    THE GATHERING

    Stand Christ, whose glory fills the skies

    Charles Wesley (1707-88)NEH 234

    All Christ, whose glory fills the skies,Christ, the true, the only light,

    Sun of Righteousness, arise,

    Triumph oer the shades of night;

    Dayspring from on high, be near;Daystar, in my heart appear.

    Dark and cheerless is the morn

    Unaccompanied by thee;

    Joyless is the days return,

    Till thy mercys beams I see;

    Till they inward light impart,

    Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.

    Visit then this soul of mine,

    Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;

    Fill me, radiancy divine,

    Scatter all my unbelief;

    More and more thyself display,

    Shining to the perfect day.

    In the name of the Father,

    and of the Son,

    and of the Holy Spirit.

    All Amen.

    Like Mary at the empty tomb,

    we fail to grasp the wonder of your presence.

    Lord, have mercy.

    All Lord, have mercy

    Like the disciples behind locked doors,

    we are afraid to be seen as your followers.

    Christ, have mercy

    All Christ, have mercy

    Like Thomas in the upper room,

    we are slow to believe.

    Lord, have mercy

    All Lord, have mercy

    Priest Almighty God,

    who forgives all who truly repent,have mercy upon you,

    pardon and deliver you from all your sins,

    THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

    Sit ReadingActs 16. 9-15

    During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of

    Macedonia pleading with him and saying, Come over to

    Macedonia and help us. When he had seen the vision,

    we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being

    convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good

    news to them.

    We set sail from Troas and took a straight course toSamothrace, the following day to Neapolis, and from

    there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of

    Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this

    city for some days. On the sabbath day we went

    outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there

    was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to

    the women who had gathered there. A certain womannamed Lydia, a worshipper of God, was listening to us;

    she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple

    cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to

    what was said by Paul. When she and her household

    were baptized, she urged us, saying, If you have judged

    me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my

    home. And she prevailed upon us.

    This is the word of the Lord.

    All Thanks be to God.

    Stand Let all the world in every corner singGeorge Herbert (1593-1632)

    NEH 394

    Let all the world in every corner sing,My God and King!

    The heavens are not too high,

    His praise may thither fly,

    The earth is not too low,

    His praises there may grow.

    Let all the world in every corner sing,

    My God and King!

    Let all the world in every corner sing,

    My God and King!

    The church with psalms must shout,

    No door can keep them out;

    But, above all, the heart

    Must bear the longest part.

    Let all the world in every corner sing,My God and King!

    The Gospel

    John 5. 1-9

    Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according

    to John

    All Glory to you, O Lord.

    Jesus answered him, Those who love me will keep my

    word, and my Father will love them, and we will come

    to them and make our home with them. Whoever does

    not love me does not keep my words; and the wordthat you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who

    sent me.

    I have said these things to you while I am still with

    you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the

    Father will send in my name, will teach you everything,and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I

    leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give toyou as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be

    troubled, and do not let them be afraid. You heard me

    say to you, I am going away, and I am coming to you.

    If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to

    the Father, because the Father is greater than I. And

    now I have told you this before it occurs, so that when

    it does occur, you may believe.

    This is the Gospel of the Lord

    All Praise to you, O Christ.

    Let us declare our faith in God, Father, Son and

    Holy Spirit.

    All We believe in one God,the Father, the Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth,

    of all that is,

    seen and unseen.

    We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ

    the only Son of God,

    eternally begotten of the Father,

    God from God, Light from Light,

    true God from true God,begotten, not made,

    of one Being with the Father;through him all things were made.

    For us and for our salvation he came down

    from heaven,

    was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the

    Virgin Mary

    and was made man.

    For our sake he was crucified under

    Pontius Pilate;

    he suffered death and was buried.

    On the third day he rose again

    in accordance with the Scriptures;

    he ascended into heaven

    and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

    He will come again in glory to judge the living

    and the dead,and his kingdom will have no end.

    We believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the Lord, the giver of life,

    who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

    who with the Father and the Son is worshipped

    and glorified,

    who has spoken through the prophets.We believe in one holy catholic and

    apostolic Church.

    We acknowledge one baptism for the

    forgiveness of sins.

    We look for the resurrection of the dead,and the life of the world to come.
