It is the mission of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City to provide children of diverse abilities and ethnic backgrounds with a unique program of music appreciation and choral performance that seeks to fulfill each child’s musical potential, while creating a model of artistic excellence and harmony that enriches our community.

Now in its 12th season, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC), Francisco J. Núñez, Artistic Director and Founder, serves over 1,000 young singers from across New York City and beyond. Choristers represent all five boroughs and a wide range of faiths, nationalities, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. The YPC is known for its highly successful music literacy curriculum and outstanding performance opportunities. Through weekly rehearsals and more than 100 concerts annually, members learn to read, sing, evaluate and perform music. The experience of mastering choral repertoire and performing at many of the world’s most famous concert halls gives the children a sense of hope and enlightenment. Many choristers say the YPC has changed their lives, bringing them joy, broadening their outlook, and building their self-confidence.

Last season was the biggest yet for YPC including a 10th Anniversary celebration at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops, a live performance for Pope Benedict XVI at Yankee Stadium, a performance on the PBS series “From the Top” also at Carnegie Hall, and culminating with two international tours. YPC’s Cantare Chorus traveled to Powell River, British Columbia to participate in the International Choral Kathaumixw Festival where they received standing ovations from sold-out audiences. The Young Men’s and Concert Choruses traveled to Graz, Austria to participate in the World Choir Games and returned to New York with three gold medals!

The 2008-2009 Season is already off to a note-worthy start with the YPC representing our city at the 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Ground Zero as well as performing at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on the evening of September 11. The YPC was also featured at the Miller Theatre in a production of Xenakis’ opera “Oresteia ” on September 13, 16 and 17.
