New Rules (cont.)(age based vs. level based)

●U-13/U-11: coaches may go the length of the field, behind opponent’s bench

●U-11/U-9 - Goalkeeper stick may be 52” or may be cut to fit.

●No Deputy Allowed (all levels, major foul)

●Play short below the RL (N/A for modified fields)

No Deputy CriteriaNo GK in the Game:

● Defender may go into GC to retrieve ball

● Umpire will designate this defender, only she may go in

● Ball must come to rest

● Defender must leave within 10 sec, may not clear

● Opposing team may not deliberately block

GK is in the Game:

● Violation of the No Deputy rule will be a major foul

3-Second Good Defense

Player with the ball may not hold the ball for more than 3 seconds when:●Closely guarded/marked●The defense has both hands on her stick●The defense is in position to check were checking allowed (U13 and below; U15 if criteria not met) (minor foul)

Points to consider●Player with the ball takes her stick to the other side of her body or changes direction

●Another teammate joins the defender and the 2nd defender is in position to check

●Umpire – HOLD UP YOUR ARM! Audible and visible count (1-one thousand, 2-one thousand, whistle)

Obstruction of Free Space to Goal (Shooting Space)

●When is a defensive player considered to be in the Free Space to Goal?

A defender who is:Guarding the goal outside the circle

Obstructing the free space to goal

Not within a sticks length of opponent

Denying the attacker a safe shot on goal

Points to Consider●It is not a foul if a defender is drawn into the free space to goal by an attacker and is within marking distance

●Positioning applies to non-marking defenders who are in the free space to goal when an attacker is looking to shoot

●If the attacker with the ball is double or triple teamed, shooting space should not be called.

●Players double or triple teaming a player with the ball are exempt from shooting space and 3-seconds if within a sticks length

Dangerous Checks●U15 FC - Any check to the head is a mandatory RED card and the player must sit out her team’s next game only

●All other levels – Any check to the head is a mandatory yellow card and the offending player must sit out for 2 minutes of elapsed playing time

●Initiated check to the head●Inadvertent contact which leads to contact with the head●Contact initiated by the attacker
