• There are now over 40 Young Advisors teams operating in England
• We have trained over 1500 young people

What do they offer?
Young people are:
• Innovative
• They are experts on the services they receive
• In contact with other Young People
• They know their neighbourhoods better than us
So why don’t we like them? • Media • Education • Youth Services • Employment • Crime and ASB • Scared of the Kids? (Stuart Waiton)
What they are really like: • 70.2% of participants agreed or strongly agreed
with the statement, “I feel like I contribute to my community.”
• 46.7% of participants regularly volunteer. • 50% of participants felt they didn’t know enough
about opportunities to help out in their community • 25% thought adults had negative perceptions and
so didn’t get involved
Why involve? • More cohesive communities
• Improved neighbourhoods and services
• Greater reach into communities (stagecoach)
