Fall 2018 Youth • Adults • Community Events Adult Programs Walking Group 9/11-9/13 | 9:30 AM Walking routes are available for different walking levels and beginners are welcome. So bring a friend or meet new friends and walk with the Recreation Department. Pre-registration is not required, just stop by the Armando Center at 92 Pleasant Street. Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Free to Canton Residents. Introduction to Archery Sundays | 9/16 - 10/21 | 3 - 4 PM This program has a focus on form, safety and basics of shooting through a series of components and steps which build on one another. Participants will learn about range rules and safety gear (finger tabs, arm guards, sling). Attention will be given to the proper use of muscles and balance, combined with clear mental prepa- ration. Fee includes use of equipment. Yoga Mondays | 10/15 - 11/19 | 11:15 AM - 12:30 PM Registered yoga instructor Ellen Cosgrove—Cuneo invites beginners and experienced individuals to explore the ancient science of yoga. Hatha Yoga will stimulate circulation, improve balance, strength, flexibility and reduce stress. This 6-week program is being offered for all skill levels at the Williams Estate. Please dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat. Tilting your Life Wheel 10/17 | 6:30-8:30 PM A Less Cluttered Life workshop Tilting your Life Wheel will help you find the work/life balance. This workshop will give you the opportunity to look at your time and goals, from different angles so you can do more of what’s important to you. First Aid/CPR 11/8 | 6 - 9 PM The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid and CPR course is designed for anyone who may need to respond to a first-aid emergency. This course teaches participants on how to handle injuries and manage illness in the first few minutes until help arrives. The first 25 children registered will be courtside for the start of the second half to participate in the Kids Half Time Tunnel, and be able to high-five the players. Tickets to the game must be purchased to participate in the half time tunnel.

Introduction to Karate (Ages 3-5)Tuesdays | Multiple sessions beginning 9/11 | 10:30 - 11 AMThis class presented by the instructor of Excel Martial Arts in Canton, is designed specifically for pre-school age children. Instructor Sensei Cody Robyn will work on listening skills and methods for developing increased focus and attention.

Soccer (Ages 1-5)Mondays | 9/17 - 11/5This program is set in a fun, non-competitive environment, Super Soccer Stars offers age-specific programs which introduce children to the fundamentals of soccer through creative programming and imaginative games.

Field Hockey (Grades 6-8)Tuesday – Thursday | 9/18 - 10/26 | 2:45 - 4 PMA field hockey development program with an emphasis on teaching basic skills, game play, and having fun! Program is held at the Galvin Middle School.

Pre-School Multi-Sport Programs (Ages 3-6)Wednesdays 9/19 - 10/10Multi-Sports programs incorporate new sports skills for children ages 3-6. This class will introduce age-appropriate skills and develop coordination, while learning games such as soccer, kickball, football, baseball and more. The class will be located at the Pequitside Field, and will be instructed by the Canton Park and Recreation Staff.

Drama Kids Pre-School WorkshopWednesdays 9/19 - 10/24 | 9:30 - 10:15 AMDrama Kids Preschool Workshops are designed to creatively enhance and encourage each child's development. Participation results in several benefits for youth. Children will learn, increased self-confidence, greater empathy for others, experience teamwork and cooperation, and an early introduction into acting and participation in creative arts.

Wilderness Explorers (Ages 4-6)Thursdays 9/20 - 10/11 | 10:00-10:45 AMWilderness Explorers is the National Recreation and Park Association's initiative that connects youth to nature by offering out-of-school programming happening at local park and recreation centers. This program will explore different parts of nature, animal and habitats in the community. This program is for children ages 4-6 years old and will take place at the Armando Center and the Earl Newhouse  Waterfront. Explore the outdoors with the Canton Park & Recreation staff!!

Youth Rugby Clinic9/29 | 10:00 - 12:00 AMThe Canton Park and Recreation Department and the Irish Cultural Center are teaming up and hosting a youth rugby clinic. The program is designed to introduce the sport of Rugby, learn the fundamental of the game and the basic rules and concepts. Clinic will be located at the Irish Cultural Center.

Home Alone Safety (Ages 8-11)11/29 | 3:30 - 5:30 PMChildren will learn telephone and door answering techniques, internet safety, accident and fire protection and first aid techniques. We’ll also talk about how to manage your time when you’re home alone for short periods of time. The class includes a variety of teaching methods, including a video and role playing.

Thematic Art (Ages 6-9)Multiple classes beginning 9/21Art with a theme! Easy learning with a fun filled step-by-step format focusing on individual creativity while fostering self-confidence. Six individual classes will are being held throughout the fall.

Cooking with Miss Debbie (Ages 7-12)10/25 | 6 - 8 PMThis workshop presented by Miss Debbie teaches students to make a variety of dishes from scratch using fresh and local, organically grown ingredients. Students will try new foods and learn the importance of a healthy diet. Students will develop skills in math, reading, science, nutrition, and cultural awareness while they work cooperatively with others. The seasonal menu will include apples and pumpkin from the fall harvest.

Babysitter Training with CPR (Ages 11-14)11/28 | 3:30 - 6 PMAn American Academy of Pediatrics course that covers how to handle the basics of infant and childcare, how to react responsibly to medical emergencies and injuries, perform first aid for common childhood injuries and illnesses, and set up and run your own babysitting business.

5 Star Manners for Children (Ages 8-10)11/13 | 4 - 5:30 PMChildren will learn skills that ease awkwardness and help them comfortably negotiate the social opportunities and challenges that come with growing up. Through stories, role play and props the children will learn the hows and whys of introducing themselves with confidence, graceful dining and being a gracious host/guest.

Royal Tea Party (Ages 4-7)11/29 | 4 - 5 PMThe magic of royalty and charm of a children’s tea party blend to produce an enrapturing event for little princesses and knights! Bedecked in pink or silver capes (worn for the event) and tiaras/crowns, the princesses and knights will learn simple introductions and table manners as well as feast on royal treats at an elegant table (china/linens). They will hear Lady J’s favorite tea-party tale, engage in lively conversation and giggle, as they play her hilarious The Polka-Dot Princess story/game.
