R.I.P. Bobbie!

Bobbie Stewart quietly passed away in her home in early Septem-ber. In lieu of a memorial gathering, which she would not have wished, her family and friends have selected a small number of her paintings to be shown in her memory in the cur-rent Southern Coos County Hospital exhibition. For all who wish to pay her their final respects the show will remain open through the end of De-cember. Viewers may discover a Bobbie they never knew: she was a very private and deeply thoughtful painter in addition to being a com-mitted peace activist and a strong advocate for justice and the public good, both locally and nationally.

The children ofJerry S. Quillen

would like to invite his friends and family to gather at the VFW Hall on

Bates Road in Bandon,on Saturday, October 20th.

We will be holding acelebration of life from 2-5pm.Please stop by to share a cup of coffee and memories of Jerry.

BANDON - Surrealist painter David Blackand Kelly Oney of the Wool Company arethe featured artists at the Bandon LibraryArt Gallery through Nov. 30.

Black returns after three years, duringwhich time he has gone from success tosuccess, with shows all over the greaterCoos Bay area and collectors taking noticeand making acquisitions of original paint-ings and prints. An explorer of surrealismand fantasy, Black constructs complex, imaginative worlds using both the fantasti-cal and the ordinary elements of life. Withtheir vivid colors, deep focus and richdetail, his paintings play with the laws of

nature while maintaining a profound senseof order. The logic of these images is thelogic of dreams - they hint at stories thatmay go anywhere. They invite people toparticipate, and to weave their own. The making of cloth and and garments

from wool has not changed fundamentallyin thousands of years. Wool is harvestedfrom the animal, cleaned and carded, thenspun into thread or yarn. Oney of The WoolCompany, after knitting and crocheting foryears, recently took up spinning, too. Oneydisplays a classic spinning wheel, variousyarns and threads, and some of what onemight make with those yarns.
