The communities in Harrisonburg, and the rest of the Shenandoah Valley, were built on agriculture.Even
though times have changed, we like to honor this past by maintaining farms that take visitors into the world
of local agriculture. With opportunities to pick your own produce and spend time with farm animals, it’s
the perfect way to enjoy the land and all the bounty it provides. In 2010, Fields of Gold was established to
collectively market and promote the Shenandoah Valley’s agritourism sites and activities.

Mennonite Community
The Mennonite community of Harrisonburg is a truly unique and special part of life here. There aren’t many
opportunities to see a place like Pleasant View Church, where there are 150 horse stalls but no automobile
parking spaces. To the residents of Harrisonburg, the Mennonites are just our neighbors, but visitors will
find their way of life intriguing. Whether you want to enjoy an annual event, spend some time at a market
browsing the selection of homemade food and handcrafted wares, or learn the history of the community,
you’ll have plenty of opportunity to get to know the Mennonite community a little better.
