We are starting off December with wonderful weather. Unfortunately, the weather conditions

has resulted in very icy conditions throughout the area. I find myself being very cautious when I am walking

(even on my own driveway). We will be sanding any areas that require this service; please let the Town Office

know if there are areas that need sanding.

Town Council attended the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association’s annual convention from

November 22nd to 24th. This was a very hectic time as there were many training and information sessions to

attend. I was very surprised to find out that approximately 50% of the attending delegates were newly elected

in the October election. There were roughly 1000 delegates in attendance and 922 had voting privileges.

Ten of the provincial ministers made short speeches and answered questions from the floor. There was a

special session on crime and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson said that they are looking at

hiring data input personnel so that police officers would be more available to be out and about in our

communities. Closer to home, our rest stop was vandalized on November 17th and we have had to restrict the

hours that it is open until we have a resolution to the ongoing issues. Town Council is looking at all options to try

to reduce the criminal activity that is occurring. We will be hosting an Open House to discuss this and we are

open to any suggestions that the public may have.

At our November 14th Town Council meeting, a motion was carried to adopt an Interim Operating

Budget. This is required under the Municipal Government Act to allow the town to operate until the 2018

Operating Budget is formally passed. We will begin budget deliberations in December and will continue to

deliberate into the New Year.

It was a pleasure to have Bowden Grandview School’s Grade Six class come to our Town Office on

November 28th. Grade Six is when the students learn about municipal governance and they sit in the Town

Council Chambers and are given various information on the town and the Municipal Government Act. The

students asked many questions and I was able to give them some information on the town’s history. I strongly

encouraged them (and I urge others) to visit our Bowden Museum. On behalf of Town Council, Town Staff and

administration I would like to wish everyone.

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS

Warm regards,

Mayor Robb Stuart

Silent Santa It’s that time of year again! Christmas is fast approaching.

benefit from this confidential program, applications are available at the Town Office, Reddi Mart, FCSS/Olde Library or with the Family School Wellness worker at Bowden Grandview School. Applications are due by December 8, 2017. For

6-8 slices French bread

1 cup egg nog

Santa Claus is coming to town early with the Bowden Volunteer Fire Department!

Santa will visit your house the evening of December 23. Please bring a wrapped gift with the child’s name, age and address SECURELY

attached to the Town of Bowden office or Bowden Fire Department prior to the 22nd of

December. Santa and his “Fire Elves” will make a special appearance at your house with the gift! Donations to the Bowden Rescue Society are

graciously accepted.

The little free library is located at the Bowden

Igloo, just to the right of the concession. Bring in your gently used books that you no longer want and exchange them for a book from the library to enjoy. This is a great and inexpensive way to foster the love for reading in our community for both kids

and adults.

Reverse Advent Calendar

Advent Calendars are a fun tradition that

a lot of people like to participate in

during the holidays. This tradition dates

back to the early 1900s. These days there

are a variety of different kinds you can get

besides the traditional chocolates, but

have you ever considered a reverse advent

calendar? This is a great way to give back

to those in need during the holidays. Here

is how it works:

1. Get a box or basket

2. Each day, add an item to donate to a

local charity, food bank or someone in

need

3. Once it is full, drop it off at your choice

or charity!
