About Mt Buller
Mt Buller is the most accessible major alpine resort in Australia, an easy and scenic three hour drive from
Melbourne. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a beautifully-situated alpine village that offers so much
to do on and off the snow.
On the slopes, Mt Buller has Victoria’s largest lift network (with 22 lifts), and more than 300 hectares of
patrolled ski area and over 80km of ski runs. The mountain has a great mix of terrain for all skiers and
boarders, from beginner to expert.
Our average annual snow depth of more than 1.3m and our state-of-the-art snowmaking infrastructure
(216 snowmaking guns) is backed by the reassurance of our Snow Guarantee, which means you can
book your snow trip with confidence.
Our ski & snowboard school is Victoria’s largest, with over 300 friendly, professional ski & snowboard
instructors. We’re also the SASKI Snowsports Championships every winter.
On top of all that, we have the most competitive kids pricing in Australia and generous group packages.
What’s new for schools in 2013?
More primary school teachers ski free We’ve increased the teacher:student ratio for primary schools in line with government regulations on
teacher:student overnight excursion ratios. In 2013, one teacher will ski free for every 5 primary students.
Consistent pricing for primary and secondary students We’ve moved to a single set of pricing for primary and secondary students.
Automated B-TAGs At Mt Buller, old style paper tickets are a thing of the past. All of our passes are now high-tech B-TAGs
using RFID technology to give you and your students easy access to lifts and a whole lot more. We can
even pre-load lunch vouchers on your B-TAGs!

Booking tips – continued
Book early The early bird catches the worm. If you book at the last minute we may not be able to help you find
suitable accommodation and you may not be able to secure your preferred lesson times.
Allow plenty of time for your trip The journey to Mt Buller, especially if it involves stopping to collect rental equipment, may take longer than
you expect, creating stress and even causing you to be late for your lessons. It’s a good idea to book a
later lesson on your first day to ensure you have a pleasant start to your snow trip.
Choose the right Buller Sports location To make accessing the resort and ski area more convenient, faster and with fewer hassles we strongly
recommend the following:
If you’re staying off the mountain (e.g. in Mansfield or Merrijig), or just travelling up for
the day, stop off at Buller Sports Mansfield to collect your rental gear and lift and lesson
passes
If you’re staying up on the mountain, use Buller Sports Central. You can even collect
your equipment from 4.30pm on the previous day.
For groups of 40 or more, please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for equipment collection. Please be
aware that Buller Sports may also be serving a large number of general public guests either returning or
picking up, but they’ll do their best to get your school in and out and ready for the slopes as quickly as
possible.
Check the Events Calendar Mt Buller hosts many events throughout the season, some of which tie up a large number of our instructors
and rental resources, resulting in only a limited number of lesson slots available to school groups. Please see
the up-to-date events calendar on the Mt Buller website (mtbuller.com.au), and take these events into
consideration when choosing your travel dates. If in doubt, call Buller Holidays to assess availability before
committing to accommodation, transport, etc.
Collect your tickets Tickets can be collected from the following venues:
Buller Holidays office in the Village Centre
Buller Sports Horse Hill in the Horse Hill Car Park
Mansfield Buller Sports on the right as you enter Mansfield.

Booking tips – continued
Provide your on mountain contact details You should provide contact details for your group to Buller Holidays and we will distribute to the essential
departments to be used for queries on bookings and in case of emergency situations.
Accompanying teachers ski free Within certain limits, teachers travelling with school groups receive lift tickets, equipment hire and lunch
vouchers free of charge (FoC). The FoC ratio is:
1:5 for Primary school groups (i.e. one free teacher for every five students), and
1:8 for Secondary school groups.
Extra teachers/assistants ski at discount An additional five (5) teachers and/or assistants accompanying the group can be pre-booked at the
discount rate shown in the Extra teachers/assistants table in the pricing section overleaf. Other adults
accompanying the group (i.e. above the FoC teachers and the additional five mentioned here) should pay
standard Adult rates.
Rental information All rental prices are for the rental of a “Standard” package. This includes shaped skis, boots and poles or
snowboards and boots, plus helmets and wrist guards, which are recommended.
Please note: Your rental collection time is considered an appointment. If you are late to collect rental, it
could take longer to process when you arrive.
Lesson information The Ski & Snowboard School conducts school group lessons at 9:00am, 11:00am and 1:30pm daily. The
lessons go for 1 hour 55 minutes. We usually reserve the 9:00am time slot for complete beginners, as
they may not be able to ski/board safely without a lesson and having a lesson first up will help them make
the most of their time on the mountain. Intermediate or advanced students will usually be allocated
lessons at 11:00am or 1:30pm.
Please note: Your lesson times are considered appointments. Our instructors will have another lesson
after yours so if you are late, the lesson will still finish at the scheduled time.
Pre-arrange your gate entry fee The Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Resort Management Board charges resort entry fees for all visitors to the
resort. The money collected is used to provide services on Mt Buller, such as free public transport,
domestic water, snowmaking water, sewage treatment, car parking and snow clearing. Call 03 5777 6077
to pre arrange your gate entry.

EQUIPMENT RENTAL

outlets offer you convenience, good service and great value on clothing and equipment hire. All of our
stores carry a large selection of skis, snowboards, boots, clothing and accessories for hire and purchase.
To ensure you spend your day out on the slopes rather than in the rental shop, please read and follow the
instructions in this planner carefully and provide us with all the necessary details in the accompanying
forms so we can help you quickly and efficiently. And remember to allocate time in your day for ski and
snowboard collection and returns.
Note. Helmets are compulsory for all kids (under 18) participating in any Ski & Snowboard School
program. Buller Sports includes helmets in all children’s rental packages.
On-the-spot adjustments We can make any necessary adjustments to your equipment on the spot at any of our six Buller Sports
outlets.
Additional equipment Any additional hires or charges over and above what has been booked will be charged to the school by
Buller Sports on the day of collection.
Damage Waiver Included in our rental prices is a “Damage Waiver”. This covers minor damage to the equipment that
occurs during normal use. However, the school will be held responsible for the replacement, at full retail
value, of any equipment lost or not returned to Buller Sports at the end of your visit.

SKI & SNOWBOARD LESSONS
The Mt Buller Ski & Snowboard School has an experienced team of local and internationally
qualified ski and snowboard instructors, ensuring your students receive expert tuition and maximise their
learning potential. Beginner lessons from qualified instructors will ensure a quick and safe progression,
while intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders will benefit from the more advanced lessons and
get more out of their skiing/snowboarding.

Duration
1 hour 55 minutes,

All SASKI Lessons will meet in front of the ABOM restaurant.
Skier & snowboarder ability Please use this guide to determine your students’ abilities.

1st Time 1 I’ve never skied or snowboarded before
Beginner 2 – 3 I can link turns together on green runs
Intermediate/Advanced 4 – 8 I’m comfortable skiing or riding on blue runs
Class sizes & composition Instructors are generally assigned to groups on a ratio of approximately one (1x) instructor for every 10–
12 kids. (Note. This number does not include teachers or assistants.) As a general rule, class sizes tend
to be larger for first-timer groups and smaller in more advanced groups. The School coordinator and
instructors will determine a reasonable ratio when you arrive at the meeting place to start your lesson.

Lessons – continued
Other important information
Be on time
Please ensure you meet our Ski & Snowboard School Supervisor at your selected schools meeting place,
15 minutes before your lesson. Due to the popularity of our schools programs, your lesson will be
completed at the regular time if you arrive late i.e 11:00am, 1:00pm or 3:30pm.
Lessons start and finish at the same place except by prior arrangement.
You can rely on the instructor’s knowledge with regard to class splits and organization and you
shouldn’t interfere with an instructor’s conduct of a lesson.
Last-minute changes
Please be aware that our instructors are allocated to lessons before you arrive. At busy times, we may not
have instructors available to cover last minute changes.
Changing from skiing to snowboarding (or vice versa)
If your students want to change disciplines part way through your stay, you need to inform Buller Holidays
before your arrival. As an example, if after two days two students decide they want to move from skiing to
snowboarding we may not have a beginner class available for them. However, if eight decide to swap
and you let us know ahead of time we will be able to assign another instructor to your group.
Change of meeting location
Any change of meeting location also needs to be communicated via your Booking Agent or directly with
Buller Holidays on the mountain. Please don’t organise with your instructor to meet at a different location
the next day. Instructor schedules may change and the replacement instructor won’t know where to meet
your students. We can let your instructors know of any meeting place changes you require.
In short:
Any changes you’d like to make to your booking, either before you arrive or once you’re on the
mountain, should be communicated to the Buller Holidays Office as soon as possible, and
We recommend you book early to ensure you receive your preferred lesson times
(we operate on a first come, first served basis).
