Pipeline Engineering _______________________________________________ Petersen’s focus as a company is on the pipeline industry. We have the breadth and depth of experience that our clients require in the development of their pipeline projects. Line sizing, route selection, material selection, and cost estimating, are just a few of the engineering services we provide.

Project Management _______________________________________________ From entire projects to individual project phases, Petersen can provide the level of management services, you require. Maintaining a clearly defined scope and minimizing the impact of change is the main focus of our management.

Permitting _____________________________________________________ Regulatory agencies impact nearly every aspect of pipeline construction and operation. Petersen has the experience to define the regulatory impacts and navigate the various agencies permitting processes. Our level of service can be set to meet our client’s need from technical support to direct involvement with permitting agencies.

Cost Estimating __________________________________________________ Almost every project Petersen completes involves cost estimation. Whether for project feasibility or for AFE approval, Petersen can provide the cost estimates you need to accurately understand and assess your projects.

Pipeline Relocations _______________________________________________ The expansion of communities has caused pipeline relocations to become more prevalent. Certain situations may be resolved by simply lowering a line, while others may require a significant re-route. Petersen has the experience to help our clients reach a cost-effective relocation solution.

Project Documentation _____________________________________________ The collection and organization of project documentation is of the highest importance for pipeline owners and operators. Petersen has the experience to help you gather all of the required documentation including, personnel OQs, weld maps, as-builts, hydrostatic tests, and non-destructive examination documents. Accurate documentation is the foundation for the safe operation of pipeline facilities.

Hydraulics _____________________________________________________ Petersen can provide the hydraulic analysis to design a new system or determine how to best modify an existing one to optimize flow.

Route Selection __________________________________________________ Petersen can assist with route selection for your project. There are many factors that affect the selection of a pipeline route. Landowner issues, potential environmental restrictions, and constructability are a few of the elements that can impact the cost and feasibility of construction.

Meter Station Design _______________________________________________ Whether developing a grass roots metering facility or upgrading existing meter runs, Petersen has the experience to complete the engineering and design for both natural gas and liquids applications. Completed projects include positive displacement, orifice, turbine, and ultrasonic meters as well as loop and small volume provers. We also have experience with pressure and flow control.

Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Design/Drafting ______________________________ Petersen has an experienced staff of CAD designers and drafters ready to help you with route maps, alignment sheets, P&IDs, site plans, piping plans and sections, grading plans, civil details, and various electrical drawings. We have in-house design capabilities with AutoCAD®, AutoCAD® Civil 3D®, and MicroStation. Our designers are equally adept at facility modifications and grass roots projects.

Horizontal Directional Drill Design _______________________________________ Horizontal Directional Drills (HDDs) have become a reliable method of installation for a variety of applications including stream crossings, road crossings, and work in terrain or wetlands areas that justify the additional cost. Petersen can help you plan HDDs for all of these scenarios.

Hydrostatic Testing ________________________________________________ Petersen can help you develop hydrostatic test plans that will minimize the number of test sections, in turn, increasing efficiency. We can also handle the entire program from pre-planning to disposal of test water.

Instrumentation and Controls __________________________________________ Petersen has the experience to develop piping and instrumentation diagrams, create conduit and conductor schedules, and detail terminal block diagrams for your projects.

Power ________________________________________________________ From working with utilities to get the appropriate power on site, to substations and motor control centers, Petersen can assist you with the power needs for your project.

Quality Assurance/Quality Control _______________________________________ Quality begins with the proper discussions so that we understand your needs before any work is begun. By developing a robust scope of work, we can provide more accurate cost estimates and ultimately better services. Taking the time to develop a sound understanding of your requirements helps to reduce under-delivery and over-delivery of our services and helps to eliminate re-work. This will facilitate the timely delivery of a quality product.

Environmental Engineering ___________________________________________ Protection of the environment is an important aspect of any project involving oil and gas pipelines and facilities. Petersen can assist you with preparing planning studies, determining environmental impacts and permits, and developing other documents and reports.

mAStEr mEtEr oPErAtor, NATURAL gAS DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

petersen engineering was engaged to provide engineering for the extension of a natural gas distribution system for a master meter operator in central Indiana. The scope of work included developing the route, specifying materials, requesting bids from contractors, and providing as built information to the client.

This project encompassed the replacement of all valves in a gasoline and distillate manifold at a terminal in northern Indiana. petersen engineering designed the piping revisions required

to accommodate the new valves, assisted with the development of decommissioning and re-commissioning plans, and provided engineering support during critical downtime construction.

This project involved the installation of a 10” natural gas transmission line from a delivery station to a city gate metering station. petersen engineering’s deliverables included alignment drawings; piping details for launcher, receiver, regulation, and metering; and drawings for a 5000’ horizontal

directional drill across the St. louis river.
