Week 2, Term 3, 2016 From the Principal’s Chair Kia ora tena koutou katoa We have started the term well with the students full of stories about their holidays. As-sessments in reading, basic facts, spelling, handwriting and individual goal setting are un-derway. Students from year 3-4 will be trialling the use of independent timetables this term. These are proving successful with our senior students as part of self-management. An unplanned power outage affected us on Thursday but we rocked on and when the power came back on at 11.35am, we were delighted. Renita has started in her role as the newly appointed release teacher and is already making her mark in the classroom. Profile books have now all been updated and returned to school. Thank you for your as-sistance with these. We have started an integrated unit around the Olympics and will also be looking at rights, rules and responsibilities. Renita is covering Te Reo and Food and Nutrition. The purchase of a basketball hoop and back board is underway and Lauren donated a smaller free standing netball goal for the younger students. Heather’s hours in the office this term are as follows: Monday to Thursday 8-9am and then she will be in the class as Teacher Aide for the main teaching blocks. She will re-sume office duties from 1-2.30pm (Monday - Wednesday) and 12.30-2pm on Thursdays. If you need to get hold of us outside these hours, please do leave a message on the answerphone, as these are regularly checked throughout the day. Have a great couple of weeks.

Red Socks Day
The students got right behind this and purchased red socks from
the Sir Peter Blake Trust to celebrate young leaders.
Hi-Vis jackets were given to each student to promote safety on ru-
ral roads. This is part of a promotion for Wairarapa students
through road safety.
Student Writing
In the holidays, Mum, Flyn and I went to go and see our aunty and our cousins. They came down from Napier. After we talked, we went to see a horse. Its name was Curry Up. Next, we went to the pools. Before that, I went to the circus with Hannah. - Pippa, Y4
I went to Taupo and we went to the hot pools. We went skiing and we were in a lake house. - Hannah, Y1
On Saturday, Tom, Dad and I went to the beach. When we got there we saw kahawai. Why were there sooo many kahawai? We caught five using our fishing rods. Dad was helping cast out our lines. We took them home and ate them for dinner. It was good. We had vegetables with the fish. I love fishing! - James, Y3 We went on holiday in a motor home. It was white and on the holiday we got a new DVD called Lego Star Wars. We went to Taupo and went fishing for prawns but we didn't catch any prawns. We went to Rotorua. We went to the luge and on a jet boat ride. It was so much fun! - Hunter, Y3
