Gaia provides an opportunity to gaze at planet earth, floating in three dimensions, a view only astronauts usually get to see. 1.8 million times smaller than the real earth, with each centimetre of this illuminated sculpture depicting 18 kilometres of the earth’s surface, this is a rare chance to study planet earth in detail and feel the wonder of looking back on earth from space.

By standing 211 metres away from Gaia people can see the Earth as it appears from the Moon.

Consisting of thousands of acrylic crystals suspended three metres above ground level, this interactive sculpture undulates and curves, bringing a little piece of space closer to Earth. During the day they will dance and sparkle under sunlight and from twilight will transform into Joondalup’s very own Nebula.

Have you ever seen an eight-metre-high inflatable space man? Is he lost? Where did he come from? Is he reaching up to touch a star? Wherever he’s from and whoever he is, pay him a visit before he disappears.

Channel your inner spaceman and get up close and personal with this incredible seven metre-wide suspended replica of Earth’s celestial satellite, made from high resolution NASA images, where each centimetre is equivalent to five kilometres (approx. 1: 500,000 scale). Catch some of the street performers under the moon, or simply take a seat on the grass and get lost in space.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre presents GALILEO AND CELESTE

Hello Galileo, Hello Celeste! Slow down and say hi to two giant ancient molluscs. Leave the world behind for a few moments as you are invited to peer into their shells to be transported at a snail’s pace, to another universe.

Galileo and Celeste will be a delight for both children and curious adults to investigate and follow on their journey through the festival.

Galileo and Celeste are commissioned by the City of Joondalup and the City of Greater Geraldton.

La Galerie Mobile presents WALKS OF ART

Come and meet the Walks of Art. Created in the image of Monet’s Field of Poppies and Van Gogh’s Sunflower series and Starry Starry Night painting, they stroll as if in a summer garden, delighting their audience with ambient whirls, twirls and interactions.

Hand painted and self-illuminated for evening walks, viewers will be charmed into making photographic lasting impressions.

FUELLING STATION

Feel like you’re running out of steam? Pop in to the Fuelling Station to recharge your batteries at a selection of food trucks with a range of delicious food and beverage options available for purchase.

KIDS SPACE STATION

Grab a beanbag and prepare for large doses of fun with exciting mini shows, perfect for the shortest of attention spans.

CENTRAL ‘NEBULA’ PARK

The centre of all things Joondalup, Central ‘Nebula’ Park is the place to be! Here you will find the main stage with bands, choirs, international street performers and dance spectaculars. There is also a standalone circus rig with incredible acrobatics, two giant sculptures, and even some roaming performers to follow to your next adventure.

MUSEUM OF THE MOON

Museum of the Moon is a not only an awesome art installation, but underneath the orb is a magical performance pitch, with drumming circles, street performers and space talks, to entertain the whole family.

BUZZ’S BAR

Inspired by Buzz Aldrin who accompanied Neil Armstrong on the Apollo 11 mission, Buzz’s Bar will be decked out to celebrate the first two humans to land on the moon. Kick back and relax in the licensed area by day, with a mix of sultry jazz trios, gypsy jazz, powerful pop, slide guitar (like you have never seen before) and indie rock, there is something for everyone.

THE LITTLE PALAIS

Packed with shows to please little and big kids alike, The Little Palais has something for everyone. There’s comedy, magic, a gameshow with a difference, a singalong and dance party, a contortionist… and even the world’s most dangerous hula hoop trick!

CENTRAL ‘SPACE’ WALK MARKETS

Here you will find handmade and homemade delights. Perfect for presents for family, friends or yourself! There is also a craft area to make your own Spacey Button Badge to take home with you, and a community stage where you will hear great local talent.

JOONDALUP ART GALLERY

Visit Joondalup’s very own community run art gallery located on Central ‘Space’ Walk. Over the festival weekend it will feature an exhibition called ADORN showcasing the work of the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia. The Joondalup Community Arts Association will host a display marquee, so be sure to drop by and meet your local visual arts community.

MUSIC ACROSS THE WEEKEND

WA’s own superstars… Spacey Jane

Other acts across the weekend include Andrew Winton, Steve Hensby Band, The Bambuseae Rhythm Section, The Rose Parker Band, Timothy Nelson, Young Robin, Your Girl Pho and more.

Weddings are prone to disaster and this Brazilian aerial act takes ceremonial buffoonery to a whole new level! After travelling to 15 countries in three years, this acrobatic duo will swing their way into your hearts and memories. Will her playful shenanigans combined with his strength and high jinks achieve an uplifting ending?

A visual treat for all the family that will entertain and amaze. Pedro creates a real-life silent movie before your eyes, with a tale of immortal love, heroes, villains, and of course balloon sculpting. A one-man equivalent of “Wallace and Gromit”, Pedro is renowned as one of the world’s best and most original street clowns.

Kerol juggles with microphones, dances on skates, throws vinyl records, and re-enacts the story of William Tell armed with a very large Japanese sword (katana)! This is a journey into Kerol’s imagination that evokes the atmosphere of a quirky and eccentric music hall. Featuring off the wall tricks, a touch of surrealism and a dash of American stand up, you are sure to be captivated by this cheeky character.

Trash Test Dummies is a family friendly circus show like no other. With sell-out seasons and rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe, this side-splitting slapstick routine takes household wheelie bins to new heights and delivers a dump-truck full of hilarity!
