The VMC Sparkpoint offers the very latest in point technology, developed exclusively by VMC for ulti-mate performance hooks.

A point hardened by forming, followed by chemical sharpening is the recipe for permanent hook shar-pness. Front and back reinforcement ribs guarantee the point’s rigidity. Energy channels increase the speed of penetration and the point’s driving force upon striking.

VMC Sparkpoint is now available on an exten-ded range of single and treble hooks, including the lethal TROPIC treble for tropical fishing: ref. 7560.

The VMC Fastgrip point, with its three micro-barbs, ensures that

hook setting is instant with only 1/3 of the pressure of a regular hook.

Whilst the upper micro-barb guaran-tees swift hook-bite, the two lower mi-

cro-barbs prevent the fish from slipping off, even when the line is slack.

The Fastgrip point also reduces damage compared to a regular barbed hook.

Barbarian Shape

The unique design of the technical locking curve allows a maximum transfer of energy towards the point while setting the hook. This results in a faster and more effortless penetration of the point and up to 25% improved hooking rate.

The hook’s V shape locks the fish close to the shank, applying less pressure on the point. This prevents big fish from opening the hook and self-releasing.

Tests have proven that the unique geometry of the VMC Barbarian shape increases a hook’s resistance to opening.

VMC Vanadium hooks owe their success to their li-ghtness allied with their incredible resistance : up to 25% increased strength.

Which coating shall I use on my hooks?

Needle Coneincredibly strongerOrdinary hook points are formed by a grinding pro-cess which breaks the fibres of the steel, thereby weakening the point. Needle Cone technology, in contrast, gathers the fibres and squeezes them towards the center, thereby strengthening the hook tip. With its consitent strength and superior sharpness, the resulting steel point’s molecular integrity is preserved; all the weakness inherent in other mechanical or chemical honing processes are limited.

Fastgripirrestible from every point of viewThe first point with 3 micro-barbs. The upper barb, placed close to the point, guarantees swift hook bite at the slightest solicitation. Two lower micro-barbs prevent the fish slipping off, even when the line is slack. As there is no tearing of the flesh, the removal of a Fastgrip hook leaves no wound. Fish can consequently be returned to the water unda-maged.

What is the meaning of 1x strong, 2x strong etc.?

This is an indication of wire thickness. The higher the «x» number, the stronger the wire.

As a general rule, the «x» number denotes the shift in sizes in relation to the wire thickness of an equivalent standard hook.

Therefore, a 1x strong treble has the same wire thickness as its standard equivalent one size bigger and a 2x strong treble has the same wire thickness as its standard equivalent two sizes bigger etc. The other hook dimensions are unchanged.

This table illustrates the shift in sizes for VMC standard round treble 9649 compared to 1x strong (9650) and 2x strong (9655) equivalents.

Do I need a round shape or an O’Shaugnessy shape?

It all depends on the fi sh you are going after...

The round bend offers the advantage of having a slightly wider gap than the O’Shaugnessy treble. It results in a better and easier setting of the hook. On the other hand, the round bend will open more easily.

For those reasons, most freshwater applications will use the round bend. Most freshwater fi sh will not apply enough pressure on the hook to open it, with the exception of very powerful species. VMC recommends using round bend trebles to benefi t from the wider gap.

For saltwater applications or freshwater applications aimed at heavy and powerful fi sh, think O’Shaugnessy. The smaller gap on O’Shaugnessy is not an issue as most of the time these species are much more aggressive and will grab the entire lure. What is important is the increased resistance to opening that the O’Shaugnessy design will offer.

VMC Expert Tip

When should I use a short-shank treble?

We recommend that you use a short shank treble any time you use a small size lure body with a reduced space between the two hooks. The short shank will prevent the two hooks from tangling.

This is the only one-piece solid ring that is assembled to the hook prior to the hardening and fi nishing process. In addition to an increased catch-rate, the geometry of the circle hook design results in a signifi cantly higher percentage of lip-hooking as opposed to deep-hooking. When hooked properly in the mouth, a hook can be removed quickly, thereby minimizing rough-handling and exposure time. Ultimately, less damage will be caused to the fi sh and tackle. For anglers who practice catch and release fi shing, circle hooks are clearly advantageous.

VMC now offers two non-reversed sport circle hooks, to further reduce gut-hooking : 7385 Tournament Circle and 9789 Heavy Duty Sport Circle.

The VMC Tournament Circle Hook offers the largest gap in its category for an optimal hooking rate and more room for baiting. Its non-reversed design complies with increasing tournament regulations insisting on fl at circle hooks.

The Tournament Circle features VMC’s sticky sharp ultra strong needle point. Rather than grinding the point like many circle hooks on the market, VMC’s unique needle point manufacturing process allows the compressing of fi bers in a conical shape so the thinnest part of the point shows the highest density of material. In order to meet the high expectations of tournament fi shermen, ref 7385 has been lightly chemically sharpened.

This very heavy duty circle hook has been designed to meet increasing tournament regulations in areas of the world where circle hooks are required to be fl at (non-reversed). In order to obtain the maximum level of resistance on each hook, VMC uses the fi nest quality of high carbon steel and fully forges the hook from the eye to the middle of the point. This forging allows ref 9789 to use lighter, thinner wire than other hooks on the market and still obtain a better resistance to opening. Being thinner, the penetration is signifi cantly improved. The forged point will resist outrageous amounts of pressure without bending. Fishing with braided line, multi-speed reels and heavy rods is not an issue anymore!
