Your donation has been a big academic motivation and allowed me time with my family that would have been replaced with a part-time job otherwise. I am the first in my family, who emigrated from Vietnam, to attend college and your donation means so much to us.

Without your support, I would not have attended this wonderful

university and discovered what it means to be a BSE major. This summer I

will be an intern at Boise Paper in the Tri-Cities area and I cannot wait to put

my new knowledge to work!

I will be leaving UW with zero debt, which was made possible by internships provided through the industrial partnerships and the scholarship support that I received from the WPPF. I look forward to a continued relationship and seeing how the UW BSE program continues to strive toward excellence. Thank you so much.

Since January of this year I have been in a field sales engineer co-op position with

Buckman at the Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg, PA. This experience has given me useful insight into the paper

industry and direction in how to use my degrees after graduation.

I have always been completely fascinated by paper and industrial chemistry, so being in the BSE program has been an incredibly fulfilling experience for me. This coming summer, I will be a process engineering intern with KapStone Paper and Packaging at their Longview paper mill, working with controls.

I am from a middle class family and it is hard for me to pay the rising costs of tuition. No matter how much I work,

I can’t afford tuition let alone room and board. That is why

your generosity means so much to me. Thank you.

After my first quarter in core BSE classes, all of my family’s sacrifices

were suddenly priceless. I fell in love with the major and everything about

it…I have formed so many great relationships with my peers and

professors – a benefit hard to find in the larger programs at the UW.

Internships are one of the key points in helping students grow into process engineers…to apply knowledge from classes in the pulp and paper industry as well as gain a unique experience from hands on work.Once again, I am honored that you chose to donate to the WPPF. Your contributions ensure that students in the BSE program have the full opportunity to display their knowledge and skills.

The BSE program and the people involved motivate me to do well and eventually succeed wherever I end up.

I have paid for every single part of my college experience all by myself, without much help from any family. The scholarship that I have received makes it possible for me to achieve my dreams.

As a first generation student in America, it has been difficult navigating through the university system, especially at a large university such as UW…I am fortunate to receive an excellent education from amazing faculty members and enjoy the small class sizes in the BSE program.

I had an internship last summer at Boise Wallula. In this internship, I

worked on a refiner trial for the paperboard medium machine. Along

with learning about pulp and paper processes and equipment, I learned

what it is like to be an engineer in the workplace. I got to work with

engineers, and collaborate with others across the mill…I thoroughly

enjoyed my experience at this internship, and I am so glad that

being in the BSE major helped me to obtain and succeed in my position.

BSE and WPPF gave me the opportunity to take control of my life and I believe it is the only reason I will make the commencement walk this June.

It is because of the help from the department that I was able to obtain an internship with Nalco, An Ecolab Company, during the summer of 2014; I’ve also been invited to return for the summer of 2015, where I’ll be working at paper mills in the Shreveport, LA area.
