LETTER FROM THE MAYORFor those of you who were able to make it to the Grand Park Grand Opening: thank you! It was a great community event and is truly one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of as mayor.

If you missed it, then you might not be aware of the major announcement that we unveiled at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Holladay Properties is building a 335,000 square foot indoor sports facility at Grand Park. The state of the art build-ing will house 3 full-size professional soccer fields that can be used for recreational play and competitive play. The building will also have office space, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and a restaurant.

Founded in 1952, Holladay Properties is a fully integrated real estate development and management company, with a current development portfolio of approximately $325 million spanning across all sectors of commercial real estate, including land, industrial, retail, hotel, and office.

I’d like to thank Holladay Properties for investing in Westfield and our vision for the future.

For those of you who want another exciting event, we’ve got one com-ing up this month: Westfield Rocks the 4th! Now entering its fifth year, Westfield Rocks the 4th is a community favorite that always brings a great crowd to Asa Bales Park. I hope to see you there.

Thanks for all you do to make our community the place to be.

All the best,

J. Andrew CookMayor

EMPLOYEE HIGHLIGHT:LEANE KMETZWe interviewed City employee Leane Kmetz to find out more about her and the work she does for the Informatics Department.

How long have you worked for the City?

I’ve worked for the City for eight years, and moved to Westfield last year.

What is GIS? Why is it important?GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems. Essentially it is spatially intel-ligent data that people can query and measure.

What question do you get asked most?“Remember that map you made me? I can’t find it.”

Where is your favorite place to eat? The Local. My favorite thing to eat there is the chicken gyro with an Upland Wheat!

The biggest celebration in Westfield is fast approaching! 2014 marks Westfield Rocks the 4th’s fifth year, and a record crowd looks to be on hand. The Headliner’s Car Show is anticipated to double in size, the Kids Area continues to add new activities and the fireworks display will be bigger and better than ever! With live music from ESB and Stella Luna and the Satellites, the best of festival food, marketplace vendors and The Mill Tavern’s beverage garden, Westfield is the place to be for the 4th of July.

With so much around Westfield changing, construction sites will be active around the area on July 4th. Visit www.westfieldrocksthe4th.com to get suggested driving directions and details on all aspects of the celebration. Check back often, like Westfield Parks and Recreation on Facebook and follow @westfieldparks on Twitter to keep up to date on the latest news and developments.

See you in Asa Bales Park for Westfield Rocks the 4th 2014!

COUNCIL UPDATEBelow are some important points tak-en from the October 14th, City Council Meeting:

• In honor of John Dippel, his seat was left open and his notebook was placed on the table in front of the empty chair.

• Eagle Scout Franklin Webb was hon-ored for being a page for 2 years.

• Chatham Hills, a new development north of Grand Park, was present. It will include a Pete Dye designed par three golf course and homes priced from $300,000 and up.

• The 2014 City budget had its second reading. It will be voted on at the next Council Meeting.

City Council Meetings occur on the sec-ond Monday of each month at 7:00pm and tentatively on the fourth Monday of each month (as needed) at 7:00pm.

Celebrate the start of the holiday season in Downtown Westfield on Satur-day, December 7th from 4:30pm-8:30pm at the annual Westfield in Lights celebration.

See the lights while on a carriage ride on Union Street and check out the live nativity scene that will adorn Hadley Park (corner of Main & Union Streets), presented by Westfield Friends Church.

Actors from the Westfield Playhouse will present portions of “A Christ-mas Carol”. Girl Scout Troops from the JoSheWe Council will display their Gingerbread House creations. Live music and lights will add to the evening’s ambiance.

Don’t miss the tree lighting at 7pm! And of course, the evening wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Santa! Ento ducitat emporpore occum audigent odi desequo qui optatium rehenis eatiasp eliquid ereribus.

WESTFIELD IN LIGHTS

The popular TV show Mythbusters put it to the test so it must be true: Roundabouts are safer and more effi-cient than four-way stop intersections. Roundabouts are becoming a part of the Hamilton County culture and the City of West-field is playing catch up. Good thing there’s a $44 million cushion from utility sale proceeds to help pay for these needed roundabouts.

City of Westfield residents are anxiously awaiting for 2 specific round-abouts: 156th Street and Spring Mill Road and 161st Street and Oak Ridge Road. Those who travel those areas know there is heavy traffic flow especially during rush hour.

Turning four-way stop intersections into roundabouts takes a lot of work and coordination, which usually means a lot of time. Crews will start tackling the 156th Street and Spring Mill Road project in September. The initial work will be a major utility transfer of a transmission line and then crews will clear and prime the area for construction. The City of Westfield would like to see this completed before the winter weather moves through, if not it will be complete by early spring.

The next project is 161st Street and Oak Ridge Road. The City of West-field plans to get started in March and will close the road for construc-tion in early May. Land acquisition caused some of the delays, but now the project is starting to move forward.

These two roundabouts are a part of a long list of infrastructure projects to continue the momentum in making Westfield Where You Want To Be.
