Dear Member, I hope everyone had a meaningful Yom Tov experience. I personally feel that this year’s Yomim Tovim were one of the most meaningful I have experienced. The Tefilos over the Yomim Noraim were both beautiful and moving, and the ruach over Sukkos and Simchas Torah were great. I only hope we can continue to build on it going forward. Over the course of Yom Tov we had various very important causes for which we raised funds. These included Israel Bonds (Stone Synagogue on Rosh Hoshanah), hurricane victims (HAC Branch on Rosh Hoshanah), our shul’s operating account (Stone Synagogue on Yom Kippur/ HAC Branch on Shemini Atzeres), and Hebrew Academy of Cleveland (HAC Branch on Yom Kippur). Soon we will get into our fall/winter routines and the Yom Tov period will fade into just a memory. TRANSCRIPT

Dear Member,

I hope everyone had a meaningful Yom Tov experience. I personally feel that this year’s Yomim Tovim

were one of the most meaningful I have experienced. The Tefilos over the Yomim Noraim were both

beautiful and moving, and the ruach over Sukkos and Simchas Torah were great. I only hope we can continue

to build on it going forward.

Over the course of Yom Tov we had various very important causes for which we raised funds. These

included Israel Bonds (Stone Synagogue on Rosh Hoshanah), hurricane victims (HAC Branch on Rosh

Hoshanah), our shul’s operating account (Stone Synagogue on Yom Kippur/ HAC Branch on Shemini Atzeres),

and Hebrew Academy of Cleveland (HAC Branch on Yom Kippur).

Soon we will get into our fall/winter routines and the Yom Tov period will fade into just a memory.

Before we totally forget the last few weeks, I ask everyone to please attempt to redeem your pledges as soon

as you can. Also, if you did not as of yet make a pledge, please consider doing so.

Welcome to the newest member of the YI Kollel,

Rabbi Nachman & Baila Hiller and family

“אתה חונן לאדם דעת” “You favor me with perception”. This is the first Bracha of the

weekday Amidah, where we make our daily requests of Hashem. This takes precedence

over requests for life and health. It is also known as “Havdalah”, the prayer of distinction,

where we pray for the wisdom to distinguish good from evil and right from wrong.

An existence that is without the capacity to perceive the real nature of things, the

insight to understand how things relate to one another, and the wisdom to apply what we

have learned, is not the kind of existence a person should seek. Perception, insight, and

wisdom are the first order of business.

What is insight? The Baal Shem Tov once explained that insight is the awareness

that the world around us is but a mirror. Whatever you see therein is but a reflection of

yourself.
