You Will Need 36 metres of 10 ply (worsted weight) yarn (40 yards)

to make one square 34 metres of 8 ply (light worsted) yarn (37 yards) hook recommended with your yarn of choice

NotesYou’ll need to make 9 of this pattern for the FRAN Mystery CAL.

There are round by round pictures at the end, beginning on page 4 for you to refer to if needed. I put them at the end so you can just print the written pattern on pages 2 & 3.

Abbreviations...ss = slip stitch

sp/s = space/s

st/s = stitch/es

ch = chain

st ch = starting chain

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet

dc = double crochet

fpdc = front post double crochet

PatternBegin with a magic circle or ch 4 and join the last ch to the first with a ss to make a loop.

Round 1ch 3 (st ch), 2 dc, *ch 2, 3 dc*, repeat from * to * twice, ch 1, join with sc to 3rd ch of st ch.

{12 sts and 4 x 2 ch sps}

Round 2ch 3 (st ch), *dc in next 3 sts**, (dc, ch 2, dc) in 2 ch sp*, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, dc in same sp as first st, ch 1, join with sc to 3rd ch of st ch.

{5 sts along each side and 4 x 2 ch corner sps}

Round 3ch 3 (st ch), dc over joining sc, *dc in next 2 sts, fpdc around next st, dc in next 2 sts**, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in 2 ch sp*, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, 2 dc in same sp as first sts, ch 1, join with sc to 3rd ch of st ch.

{9 sts along each side and 4 x 2 ch corner sps}

Round 4ch 3 (st ch), *dc in next 2 sts, 2 x [fpdc around next st, dc in next st], fpdc around next st, dc in next 2 sts**, (dc, ch 2, dc) in 2 ch sp, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, dc in same sp as first st, ch 1, join with sc to 3rd ch of st ch.

{11 sts along each side and 4 x 2 ch corner sps}

Round 5sc over joining sc, *sc in next 11 sts**, (sc, ch 2, sc) in 2 ch sp*, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, sc in same sp as first sc, ch 1, join with sc to first sc.

{13 sts along each side and 4 x 2 ch corner sps}

Round 6ch 3 (st ch), *6 x [ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next st], ch 1, skip 1 st**, (dc, ch 3, dc) in 2 ch sp*, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, dc in same sp as first st, ch 1, join with hdc to 3rd ch of st ch.

{8 sts & 7 x 1 ch sps along each side and 4 x 3 ch corner sps}

Round 72 sc over joining hdc, *7 x [sc in next st, sc in 1 ch sp], sc in next st**, (2 sc, ch 2, 2sc) in 3 ch sp*, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, 2 sc in same sp as first sts, ch 1, join with sc to first sc.

{19 sts along each side and 4 x 2 ch corner sps}

Round 8ch 3 (st ch), *dc in next 19 sts**, (dc, ch 2, dc) in 2 ch sp*, repeat from * to * twice and from * to ** once, dc in same sp as first st, ch 2, join with ss to 3rd ch of st ch. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

{21 sts along each side and 4 x 2 ch corner sps}
