You can make change is a guidebook and visual resource for the Repeal Hyde Art Project, a community-based tool to inspire awareness and create dialogue about the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits Medicaid coverage of abortion in most cases. The Project was started in 2011 to keep people talking about Hyde and to increase visibility about barriers to abortion access. Since then, the Project has received hundreds of paper bird submissions from around the country, each one with a message about why Hyde should be repealed. You can participate by sending a submission via mail or email, or by doing your own installation. More information about the Project is available on our website.

The Hyde Amendment prohibits federal Medicaid coverage of abortion under most circumstances. It was passed in 1976 and is reapproved

by Congress every year. Hyde can have a devastating effect on people living in

poverty; coming up with the money to pay for an abortion can mean going hungry, putting off bills, selling belongings, and even risking danger or harm. For more

1.Download the repeal Hyde bird template from www.repealhydeartproject.org (or create your own!)

2.Cut out the birds.

3. Decorate the birds and write a message on the back about why you think the Hyde Amendment should be repealed.

4. Hang the birds in your community or campus to inspire dialogue and create awareness about the Hyde Amendment.
