The Internal Medicine department cares for patients with all internal conditions. As well as physicians with general training in internal medicine, our team includes specialists in the areas of: liver, gastrological and intestinal dis-eases (gastroenterology and hepatology), cancer and blood diseases (haematology and oncology), cardiovascular diseases (cardiology), hormonal disorders, oste-oporosis and diabetes (endocrinology) and nutritional medicine. There is a close cooperation with the in-house dialysis unit for the treatment of kidney diseases (nephrology) as well as with specialists in neurology and urology. For highly specialised and scientific questions,

there is a cooperation, among others, with the department for Haematology and Oncology at the University of Heidelberg and the German Centre for Cancer Research in Heidelberg. We use a wide spectrum of internal investigation methods including highly modern x-ray systems for treating gall stones and other biliary tract disorders.

We offer our patients human and at the same time outstanding medical care in a very personal environment. This includes the sympathetic care for old, frail and critically ill patients as well as the specialised treatment of complex illnesses.

visceral surgeryVisceral surgery is the specialised surgery for internal organs in the abdomen, the hormone-producing glands and diseases of the rectum.In our department for general and visceral surgery, all examinations and treatments are carried out with the aid of the most modern diagnostic and operational procedures. In the process we align our work to the guidelines from national and international professional bodies. One of our specialisms is in the area of minimally invasive “keyhole” surgery. Alongside the treatment of biliary tract diseases, gastro-oesophageal reflux or hernias, we also offer the complete spec-trum of oncological surgery. Minimally

invasive surgery is also increasingly used here. The treatment of malignant diseases of the stomach, intestine, liver, pancreas and oesophagus is carried out in accordance with an interdisciplinary treatment concept.

Further specialisms consist of endocrine surgery (including minimally invasive thyroid operations) and proctology (e.g. haemorrhoids, anal fistula and intestinal prolapse). Numerous general operative interventions are carried out on an outpatient basis.Our team of experienced doctors, nurses and technical employees takes care individually of all activities connected to the operation.

trauma surgeryIn the first certified endoprosthesis centre on Lake Constance and in the Allgäu region, joint complaints of all kinds are treated after a detailed exam-ination and diagnosis from minimally invasively with arthroscopy using AMIS technology to computer-guided knee implant.

Problems with non-functioning endo-protheses can be examined in detail and treated with a replacement of the artificial joint where appropriate.

A particularly important task is the treatment of all kinds of injuries from accidents, particularly bone fractures and their consequences for older people. These patients are cared for medically and operatively within a comprehensive, interdisciplinary framework.

Special problems in joint surgery, such as the shoulder or feet, are treated by certified specialists in the department.

diseasesThe department has the professional expertise and all the technical require-ments to advise patients with spinal diseases. A broad range of non-operative and operative procedures are available therapeutically. The non-operative treat-ment is based on infiltration supported by x-ray, pain treatment, physical or physiotherapeutic techniques. With operative treatment, the spectrum reaches from minimally invasive decom-pression and spinal disc operations to procedures involving endoscopy and conventional open interventions. Mainly stabilising implants are used, but also systems for retaining mobility such as spinal disc prostheses. Here

the focus lies on the process for which scientific investigations have evidenced the long-term effectiveness. A signifi-cant goal is to proceed using minimally invasive techniques wherever possible for these procedures. In addition, as a rule we achieve individually tailored therapies through the combination of different techniques.In particular, the clarification of and therapy for complaints after previous operative interventions on the spine is one of our key areas.For urgent cases, there is the possibility of operative treatment without delay as a result of our continuous readiness system.

obstetricsOur department for gynaecology offers a wide range of medical services in the areas of gynaecology and obstetrics.

One focus of our gynaecological oper-ative department is minimally invasive surgery. Laparoscopy is used in the diagnosis and in therapies for com-plaints in the pubic region. Alongside the well-established “key hole” oper-ations, almost all hysterectomies done by us these days, including malignant diseases, are carried out with minimally invasive techniques. The treatment of breast cancer is carried out according to the latest scientific findings in close cooperation with the Lake Constance Breast Centre.

Alongside the treatment of tumours, further areas of focus lie in the treatment of sedimentation conditions and urinary incontinence.

In obstetrics, our team offers you comprehensive support before, during and after the birth. Every expectant mother is allocated to an experienced and committed midwife during the birth to address her individual needs.The nursery, staffed by experienced nurses and three paediatricians, is attached to the ward. In this way, paediatric care can be ensured around the clock.

intensive careA team of experienced anaesthetists and specialist nurses cares for the patients before, during and after an operation. With our regional and general anaesthetics, we cover all operative and conservative subjects in our hospital. This includes patients from the areas of general surgery, orthopaedic /trauma surgery, spinal surgery, ear, nose and throat medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics, urology and internal medicine. Our team is available every day around the clock in the hospital.In all our activities, patient safety and patient satisfaction have the highest priority. To reduce blood loss, for larger operative interventions, autotransfusion (processing blood from wounds) is used.

After painful operations on the knee, shoulder or arm, or after extensive stomach interventions, patients are regularly cared for using a pain catheter and supported in the post-operative period by our pain team. In our interdisciplinary intensive ward with a total of 3 respiration units, we care for patients after serious operations and also critically ill patients. Working together with the dialysis centre in Lindau, we have the possibility for acute dialysis.With the in-house reanimation team, we ensure emergency doctor support at the Asklepios hospital in Lindau. Many of our colleagues also work actively as emergency doctors in the emergency services.

Lindau is one of the best-connected towns on Lake Constance. With the German railway, the Austrian railway or the Swiss railway, you arrive directly on the historic island and close to the harbour with its lake promenade. From there, you can travel conveniently to our hospital in less than 10 minutes with the well-developed city bus network or with one of the numerous taxis.

By car you can reach Lindau on the A96 from Munich (180 km). In the east-west direction, the regional road B31 runs from Lindau via Friedrichshafen and Meersburg to France.

If arriving by air, Lindau is in an ideal position in the middle of a triangle of large, international airports and close to the regional airport in Friedrichshafen.
