Our familyi s wel l and we are thankful fo r the way the the Lord cont inues to b les sour l ives and our work. The gi r l s are both growing and ge t t ing p re t t i e ra l l the tim e. Laurie i s r ea lly s tr at i ng to ta lk and can get you tou n d e r s t a n d wh a t s h e wa n t s1*11 t ry and inform you of what has happened the l a s t four months. were a l l blessed by the presence of Dean Gary who came in Novemberto preach i n Puer to Rico f o r two weeks Each church was ab l e to havehim fo r two nigh t s and he was an i n sp i ra t ion fo r ll o f u s a lso wereable to share with him and a l l of. the churches in an annual FamilyRetreat Dean speaks the bes t Spanish o f any Ameri can t ha t I know and hecan communicate h is ideas about marriage and family in a way tha t helpeda l l o f the fami l ies t ha t p a rt ic ip a te dOne of th e impo rtan t poin t s t ha t the people in the church in SanGerman a re le arn in g s t h a t th e re a re o th e r churches l i k e our s aroundthe i s land and tha t we can and need to have fe l lowship with them. Wewere blessed by a v i s i t from the church in Yauco where Chuy and JaneRamirez minis te r They brought t he i r cho i r with them fo r a Christmascantata and our folks real ly enjoyed the music and the fel lowship. also were able to p artic ip ate in a 5th Sunday ra l ly in October a t thechurch in Levittown. We volunteered to host the next ra l ly in Januaryand did we ever have acrowdl Somehow we squeezed 143 people in ourhouse, which i s where we are meeting now We ex tended ou r carport l a s tsummer to f i t more people in fo r chruch and classes so t i s now 50 X10and i t was completely f i l led for the ral ly Our people were jus t thr i l ledand we had a great evening of praise and fel lowship.I mentioned in our l as t newsletter that I was going to the DominicanRepublic af ter Christmas. John Reece and I went on the 26th and stayedfor two weeks that were f i l led with act ivi t ies We were invited byBill Loft J r in Santiago to speak a t the i r annual Family re t rea t Weeach spoke about the various aspects of the Christian family. We wereso blessed by the brothers and sisters and the very rapt way that theyl istened to us. They even invited us back for next year s re t rea t butin sis te d th at w bring our wives and families. I spoke one day aboutthe Chris t ian husband s ro le in the family and I told the men tha t Iwas ab le to say how good a husband I was because Suazanne was back inPuerto Rico We also spoke at several of the area churches in Santiagoand also vis i ted with Gary and Liz Mysinger and spoke in the i r churchesin th e Puer ta Pla t a a r e a on the nor th coa s ta l so were i nv i t e d to cl imb th e t a l l e s t mountain in ll o f theCaribbean, Pico Duarte, in the center of the Dominican Republic. At10,41? f t i t was plenty t a l l enough for us. The t r a i l from the bottomto the top i s 21 km long and t seemed l ike about 210 km by the time wgot halfway to the top . hiked and climbed the f i r s t 1? km the f i r s tday and i t rained a l l the way up the mountain. The higher w got thecolder t got and by the time that w stopped to camp a t dark w weresoaked to the bone and cold for the f i r s t time in years I The next day

    V/e came back from th e Dominican Republ ic r e a l l y charged up andeage r to see th e work grow here in Pu erto R ico . We want to see more churchest rted a n d v/ e re s u r e th t t h e Lo r d will less o u r efforts t o s e e morechurches born.A .new church i s being s t a r t ed by Glen and S he rr ie R u ss el lin the Mani se ct io n o f Mayaguez and s e rv i ces wi l l soon begin t h e r e . Lonnyand I a long wi th John R eece, John Gidley and Glen Rus s e l l met to la yplans fo r s t a r t i n g a new church in th e nearby town o f Cabo Rojo . We plan to l eave a t the end o f June and we wi l l be con tac t ingour suppor t ing c hu rc he s a bo ut speaking da t e s . Al so , i f any o f you wouldl i k e us to speak a t your church , p lease l e t us know. The only way t h a t wecan begin new works i s if we have some add i t i ona l funds to use. Our t o t a lincome i s 1200 with which we l i ve on and suppor t our work in San Germanbu t we wi l l no t be ab l e to expand beyond San German un les s we a re ab l eto ra i se more suppor t . I am hoping tha t we can ra i se anoth 700-800 amonth and I know t h a t it i s poss ib le if the Lord s people wi l l respondto our needs and the needs o f the Lord s work.     Dear Friends in Chr i s t , July 1984Gree t ings from Ohio no t Puer to ,Rico I Our f ami ly l e f t Puer toRico on July 2 to begin our 4 month furlough vi s i t i ng churches andf r i end s in th e Uni ted St a t e s . We were b les sed with a g r ea t t r i pand one Emily and Laur ie r ea l ly enjoyed. We had shipped our c a rto Newark, New Jersey and then flew there and I was able to pick up

    the ca r and r e tu rn to get Suzanne and the gi r l s a t the a i rpo r t , withno problems a t all Our c a l enda r fo r o ur fu rlo ug h i s a lmos t comp le t e ly f u l l up through October . We a re enjoying th e fe l lowship o ff r iends and family t ha t we haven t seen in 3i years .The church in San German i s growing, both in number and sp i r i t .We were b les sed in th e month o f May to have 5 bapt isms A ndres andYvonne Cruz ^ a young couple with two daughters , were immersed in Mayand what a bless ing they have been to the church. We had been s tudying with them fo r sev e ra l months and Andree was th e first to dec ideto be bap t i zed . He then began t ea ch ing Yvonne a t home about th e needfo r baptism and she was immersed two weeks l a t e r . They a re in t h e i r30 s and Andres i s a computer t echnic i an and Yvonne i s a school te ac h e r . raise t h e Lo r d for H is faithfulness I

    The month of June was ex t ra busy Besides t ry in g to ge t readyfo r o ur fu rlo ug h we had a week of camp and a week of V.B.S. Both were^ea t had 7 young people from San German attend camp reali zed a long t ime ago t h a t a major i ty o f our y outh c ou ld not afford togo to camp, the cos t being a very moderate 30. Lonny Smith, our co-worker was able to buy a lo t of a r t i c l e s t h a t we gave the kids to s e l land pay t h e i r way to camp, which i s what nine did There were ove r100 campers and we were b les sed by f e l lowsh ip and fun .We ended June wi t h ou r first VBS i n San G erman. We ave raged 27s tudents during the week, severa l new young people who are f r iends ofthe church members. We made many very good contacts t ha t week. Wehad our c los ing program on Ju ly 1s t , a f t e r which we t r ave l l ed to SanJuan to leave th e nex t day. Needless to say, we were busy t h a t l a s twe e k One of our majo r needs in San German i s a church bui lding. Wehad 5 people fo r our serv ice on July 1 s t and our house i s j u s t notadequate. We're enclosing information and an addressed envelope fo ryour cont r ibut ion to buy property. We want to ra ise th a t money beforewe leave fo r Puerto Rico in October.
