REGISTRATION PROCEDURES: Resident registration is taken

on a first-come-first-serve basis and begins immediately upon attain-

ment of this brochure. York Center Park District residents will have

priority. Programs have a minimum and maximum enrollment rate.

Previous enrollment does not guarantee a reservation in any program

except our semester preschool programs. A waiting list will be made

if a program is full. Registration for programs will be held at the

York Center Park District Administrative Office, 1609 S. Luther Av-

enue, Lombard (four blocks south of Roosevelt Road and two blocks

east of Meyers Road). Advanced registration is strongly encour-

aged! All fees must be paid at the time of registration. Office hours

are Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm There is a $20 charge on

all returned checks. Visa and Mastercard accepted. No fax registration

will be accepted. See registration form on page 17-18.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES: Unless otherwise noted, the regis-

tration deadline for all programs is one week prior to the start of the

first class session. Registrations are still accepted after this deadline;

however, the class may be filled to capacity or canceled due to low

enrollment. Please register early to avoid being disappointed.

MAIL-IN & PHONE REGISTRATION: Mail-in registration will

be accepted. Mail your registration form and payment to the York

Center Park District at 1609 S. Luther Avenue, Lombard, IL 60148.

The registration form and waiver is located on page 17-18 of this

brochure or may be downloaded from our website at www.yorkcen-

terparks.org. Phone registration is now being accepted by calling

(630) 629-0886 during normal business hours Monday-Friday,

9:00am-5:00pm We only accept Visa and MasterCard. Voicemail reg-

istration is not accepted. The registration form and waiver must be

completed before starting any program.

RESIDENT AND NON-RESIDENT FEES: Those residing within

the York Center Park District’s boundaries may participate in pro-

grams at resident rates. Residents may register anytime during office

hours. Early registration means better planning and purchasing by

staff and instructors. The York Center Park District boundaries have

been determined as Roosevelt Road to the North, Fairfield to the

West, Michigan to the East and Butterfield Road to the South. Refer

to the map on the inside back cover.

REFUNDS: Refund requests must be submitted at least one week

prior to the start of a program or class. A $3.00 service fee will be de-

ducted from the amount paid and a check will be mailed to the recipi-

ents address. No cash refunds will be given. If the Park District finds

it necessary to cancel a program after the second session, a pro-rated

refund will be made for the remaining sessions. Refunds cannot be

given for outings unless a substitute can be found beforehand or if the

trip is cancelled. Please note: Due to circumstances beyond York Cen-

ter Park District’s control, some trips or instructional programs may

be subject to change or cancellation. Please register early so we do

not have to postpone or cancel programs.

PAPERWORK: There is a $10 fee for all yearly receipts processed

by office staff.

INSURANCE: The York Center Park District does not provide med-

ical insurance coverage for those participating in recreation programs

or while using park facilities. Such insurance would make programs

and user fees prohibitive.

WAIVERS: York Center Park District does not accept liability for

participants injured in a Park District program. Participants must fur-

nish their own medical and accident insurance. All participants must

sign the multiple waiver and release form which is located on the re-

verse side of the registration form. See waiver on page 17-18.

AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT (ADA): People with disabili-

ties, please note: The York Center Park District will not discriminate

against eligible residents for participation on the basis of a disabling

condition. “WE INVITE ANY PATICIPANT WITH A SPECIAL

NEED TO CONTACT OUR STAFF UPON REGISTRATION SO

THAT A SMOOTH INCLUSION MAY OCCUR.” In addition to the

programs listed here, our district provides additional specialized serv-

ices for people with disabilities through Gateway. Feel free to call

them at (630) 325-3857, or see the Special Recreation Association

page in this brochure. See more information on page 2.

CODE OF CONDUCT/BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS: YCPD

participants are expected to demonstrate appropriate behavior at all

times. The following is a list of the Park District’s behavior codes,

which have been developed to help make the programs safe and en-

joyable for all participants. Additional rules or guidelines may be de-

veloped for specific programs if deemed necessary by YCPD staff.

1. Show respect to fellow participants and staff.

2. Abstain from using abusive or foul language.

3. Abstain from causing or threatening bodily harm

to self, fellow participants or staff.

4. Show respect to equipment and facilities.

Additional or individual behavior management plans may be devel-

oped based on the advice of parents, guardians, YCPD staff, or other

professionals. A caring, fair and positive approach will be utilized re-

garding the use of any disciplinary methods. Each situation will be

evaluated individually and on its own merit. YCPD reserves the right

to dismiss a participant at any time.

GEESE ENTHUSIASTS: Feeding ducks and geese has been a fa-

vorite pastime for many people. Unfortunately, Mother Nature never

intended waterfowl to be given food that is provided by humans.

Ducks and geese naturally feed upon aquatic plants, grains, insects

and sometimes fish. Problems arise when the birds are fed unnatural

foods. If you are truly concerned for the welfare of these wild crea-

tures, please do not feed the ducks and geese.

PRAIRIE PATH: York Center Park District is proud to have a natu-

ral native Prairie Path in Knolls Park, which is located just two blocks

west of Meyers Road, next to the Montini High School ball fields on

16th Street. Less than 1% of the natural, native prairies remain in Illi-

nois. A special thank you goes to Irene Mostek for all of her hard

work and dedication to the Prairie Path.

York Center Park District

The York Center Park District was organized in 1971 with the following goals:

l To conduct programs which will enhance the leisure life of residents and their families.

l To encourage groups to develop such programs.

l To conserve the area's natural environment values.

l To acquire, protect, and develop other valuable resources.

l To strive to protect the community from environmentally destructive and degrading influences.

In order to facilitate the achievement of these goals, the Board of Commissioners has approved a series of policies and ordinances governing

the operation of the district. Procedures have been developed to carry out these policies. Through these policies and procedures, the Board of

Commissioners and staff of the York Center Park District maintain their commitment to providing a high quality of leisure service to all resi-

dents of the district.

Wow! What a summer! It was almost too hot for fun in the sun. We

did however manage to celebrate 40 years of fun for the York Center

Park District on July 21st at Knolls Community Park. We grilled burg-

ers and hot dogs, had amusements and rides, a water misting tent and

fabulous fireworks show. It was nice to see so many new faces and

old friends at the event. The 103 degree heat didn’t stop us from look-

ing back at all we have accomplished in the past forty years. We have

come a long way from the original Lighted School House program, to

adding a community center, and several new parks for our patrons to

enjoy. The staff and volunteers were all amazing. We hope you were

able to enjoy the special events, programs and parks this summer.

Recently we hired three new staff members to our team. Michael

Kraus is the new Superintendent of Parks and Facilities. He comes

with experience from LaGrange Park District and Oakbrook Park Dis-

trict. His first week he was greeted to a power outage and handled the

crisis well. We also hired a new Program Supervisor, Amanda

Richardson and a new Office Manager, Diane Stapleton. We welcome

the new additions to our staff.

With the heat and humidity, our crew did their best to water the flow-

ers, and keep the ball fields well maintained. Along with the daily up

keep, we have also begun work on our newly acquired Co-Op Com-

munity Park. New picnic tables, benches, and signs were installed.

The volleyball court at Knolls Park received a new load of sand and

new picnic tables. In the storms we lost many trees and will be replac-

ing some of them in the coming months. At the end of August, we

will be resurfacing the Lake Yelenich Parking Lot. We hope this proj-

ect will not inconvenience our patrons.

We are looking forward to the cool, crisp, and beautiful days of au-

tumn; the change of colors, the smell of bonfires, the excitement of

going back to school and holidays. We’re getting ready for the

Worldwide Day of Play which will include a morning Fishing Derby

and Toy Sale on Saturday, September 24th (Check out our special

events section for more information). We have already begun plans

for the Trout Derby, Halloween Carnival and Santa’s Open House!

This brochure is packed with new and fun programs for all ages. If

you don’t see a program you would like us to offer, just call the office

at (630) 629-0886 and let us know your ideas.

As we look back at all we have accomplished in the past 40 years, we

are proud to of all that we have achieved. We hope that you come out

and enjoy the next 40 years with us through our special events, pro-

grams, and activities. We welcome you to come out and play this fall.

Enjoy the cooler weather and renew old friendships. May this holiday

season be safe, healthy and happy for everyone.

Best Regards,

Sharon Neubauer

The community braved the sweltering heat to celebrate the York Center Park District's 40th Anniversary on Thursday,

July 21. It was a great night with everyone enjoying games, amusements, face painting, classic music, and learning

about the last four decades of York Center's history. There was free cake for everyone and a cooling station to beat the

heat. The end of the night was topped off with a spectacular fireworks display.

Adult Kripalu YogaKripalu yoga is a practice of turning inward (pratyahara) which

turns back out with greater understanding, peace and strength. In

Kripalu yoga, breath unites the mind and body so that there is

wholeness and the ability for the body to flow. Kripalu is some-

times thought of as a state of stillness through motion, a window

open to direct experience. Regular practice leads to greater self-

awareness, universal understanding, compassion and love. “Kri-

palu Yoga conveys the authentic spirit of yoga and does so in a

commonsense practice accessible to everyone. You don’t need the

body of an athlete, the mind of a mystic, or the lifestyle of a monk

to benefit from Kripalu Yoga. Kripalu allows you to choose the

level of physical intensity right for your body. It recognizes that

every body is different. It encourages you to create a lifestyle sup-

portive of your health by listening to your own body.” -Richard

Fauld Kripalu is Yoga of Compassion~ a slow flow practice that

invites calmness of the mind and settling of the nervous system.

Begin with the breath and move from within is a common way to

experience Kripalu Yoga. Please bring your own Yoga mat. All lev-

els welcome! TREAT YOURSELF WELL
