There are plenty of things in your life to focus your energy on. Sports, Grades, Friends, Relationships

with boyfriend/girlfriend. And as you get older you will be told things that you need: House, Cars, lots of

money, a husband or a wife, children. While none of these things we have mentioned are necessarily bad

things, none of them can truly satisfy you, nor are they things that we should focus our whole life around.

R E F L E C T In a book that I read one time there was a quote that has

really stuck with me. It was a short little poem that said this:

“ONLY ONE L IFE ,‘TWILL SOON BE PAST; ONLY WHAT’S DONEFOR CHRIST WILL LAST. ”

R E A D 2 Corinthians 5:14-15:

14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, there-

R E S P O N D If we know and follow Jesus then we don’t live for

ourselves, but now we live for Jesus. If we really believed this and did it, HOW WOULD THAT

CHANGE how you act around your friends? HOW WOULD IT CHANGE how you present your-

P R A Y Take some time to think through these things. Are you

living for yourself? The answer is YES! Ask Jesus to show you how you can more fully live out 2

Yesterday we talked about living for a single passion, knowing & living for Jesus. Today, let’s think about

taking that passion deeper. We want to love Jesus so much that it makes everything else in life look not

just secondary, but that’s hard to do. Mainly because we love other things/ people too much.

R E F L E C T What are some things and people that we commonly treat

as more important than our relationship with Jesus?:

R E A D Philippians 3:8-11

8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake

I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in

him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ,

the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and

R E A D Ezekiel 14:1-5

Then certain of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me. 2 And the word of the Lord came to

me: 3 “Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set the stumbling block of

their iniquity before their faces. Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them? 4 Therefore speak

to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Any one of the house of Israel who takes his idols

into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the proph-

et, I the Lord will answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols, 5 that I may lay hold of the

R E F L E C T In our life, anything can be an idol. It is something so

central and essential to your life that, should you lose it, your life would feel hardly worth living.

A really smart guy, John Calvin once said “The human heart is a factory of idols… Everyone of us is,

from his mother’s womb, an expert in inventing idols.”

Ezekiel 14 says that the people of God had set up idols in their hearts. They were loving things more

than they loved God. Sounds pretty familiar, doesn’t it?

R E S P O N D The blessings God has given us are there to point us

to Jesus. James 1: 16-17 says “16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good gift

and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no

variation or shadow due to change.”

WE MUST BE VERY CAREFUL TO NOT TAKE WHAT IS GOOD AND MAKE IT A gOD.

Here’s a sad truth about most of us. Most of the time, we put our hope in the same things that people

who don’t know Jesus do. We don’t put all of our hope in Jesus. If we believed in Him more deeply,

people would see that and would hopefully turn to him.

R E A D Matthew 5:14-16

14“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under

a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so

that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

You may have learned a little song as a kid that went something like this:

“THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE, I’M GONNA LET IT SHINE.”

According to Jesus, what is the end goal of letting your light shine? Read verse 16 again. We live a

life that is different, why? So that people would see our good works and talk about how awesome we

are? So that our parents and friends will think well of us? NO! We live a life that is different and

pleases Jesus so people will see our good works and turn to Jesus

R E F L E C T Are there areas in your life where you are HIDING THE

LIGHT OF GOD IN YOU? Areas where YOU ARE NOT REVEALING TO OTHERS by your

actions what Jesus has done in your life?

P R A Y All of us, at times, hide our light under a basket. All of

us, in some ways, live as if we are ashamed of what Jesus has done. But look again at what Jesus

said. “You are the light of the world.” Ask Jesus to show you how you can more faithfully live for

him and let your light shine so that people would see that you are different and be led to Christ by

how you live.

I love Meta! I love summer camp! Not JUST because of the beach (or the girls!). I love the music, the

sports, the fun. Camp is a great place to get away from the normal things in life; to stop and listen to

Jesus. But to what end? Surely everything God has been telling you this week isn’t just for you!

R E A D Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go

therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am

with you always, to the end of the age.”

R E F L E C T Jesus doesn’t want this week to stop with you. He wants

you to share it. These are familiar verses for many of us. We know that we supposed to God and tell

others. BUT WHAT ARE WE TO TELL THEM?

Look at what Jesus says in verse 20, “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” One

of the best things you can do when you get home to make sure that camp doesn’t end here in to share

what you have learned with others. Teach others what you have been taught.

R E S P O N D If you had to squeeze everything you have learned this

week into a few sentences, what would they be? WRITE THEM DOWN NOW so you don’t forget.

And don’t just say, “I’m gonna share this with EVERYONE.” Right now, write down

And before you start with your excuses about how hard that would be notice the promise that Jesus

leaves you with in verse 20: “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” You are not

going by yourself! Jesus is with you. And we can do all things with Christ (Philippians 4:13)!

P R A Y Ask Jesus to take these truths you have learned this week

and melt them into your heart so that you will live differently because of what you know. Ask Him to

give you the strength to share them with others and to give you the passion to love others enough to

share what He has taught you. And ask Him to remind you that He is with.

Romans 1:16- 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to

everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Don’t be ashamed of Jesus. He has done a great work in you. SHARE IT WITH OTHERS.!
