Dreams & Aspirations – Building Blocks for Youth Development a Dialogue with Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan, President, CII : 24th July 2013, Guwahati

CII & Yi Guwahati Chapter organized a dialogue session Dreams & Aspirations – Building Blocks for Youth Development with Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan, President CII. Delivering his address, Mr Gopalakrishnan emphasized on the importance of learning to dream & aspire and having a vision early in life. He said the role of youth is very significant in the developmental process of a country. He felt that India which is progressing technologically at a great speed will offer ample opportunities to the world’s largest young population and youth with an inclina-tion towards innovation should be encouraged and nurtured early in life to achieve their dreams. With over 600 plus students, the dialogue session was well attended by eminent personalities of the Industry and academicians .

A drawing competition was also held in which the kids showed a lot of interest and participated actively. Yi Guwahati Chapter and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan joined hands and organized a Seminar on Volunteerism at Fulung High School as part of the National Volunteering Week on 12th January 2014. The students participants were highly motivated and interacted with the speakers at the seminar.

An Interactive Session On Entrepreneurship as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week at Asian Institute of Management & Technology: 23rd November 2013, Guwahati.

Yi Guwahati Chapter as part of the Global Entrepre-neur week organized “An Interactive Session on Entrepreneurship” on 23rd November 2013 at Asian Institute of Management & Technology. The main objective of the session was to inspire the students to develop positive attitude towards Entrepreneurship. Speaking on the occasion Ms. Dipannita Jaiswal, Managing Director, Brahmaputra Tele productions (Pvt.) Ltd. said there is no alterna-tive to hard work , perseverance and belief in oneself which will in turn pave the way towards success. Mr. Debajit Chaliha, Director, Green Gold (Assam) Pvt. Ltd. interacted with the students giving real life examples of successful entrepreneurs who started with limited resources but with dedication, perse-verance and added value were able to achieve success. Mr. Kaushik Barua, Director, Lynchpin , emphasized on gaining knowledge before starting one’s own business. He urged the students to dream big but keep realistic targets and towards achieving them. This was followed by a question & answer session where students actively participated and cleared their doubts about various aspects of Entre-preneurship.

Confederation of Indian Industry and Yi Guwahati Chapter along with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya organized a Seminar on Volunteerism along with an Eye Donation Campaign at Guwahati Commerce College as part of the National Volunteering Week on 16th January, 2014.

Confederation of Indian Industry and Yi Guwahati Chapter along with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya organized a Seminar on Volunteerism along with an Eye Donation Campaign at Asian Institute of Man-agement and Technology as part of the National

Volunteering Week on 17th January, 2014. The seminar was very interactive and successful as Mr. Mayank Taparia , Treasurer ,Gyanjyoti Foundation, along with 6 other members of the organization pledged to donate their eyes and signed the Donor form.

It has been a great pleasure to lead Yi Guwahati Chapter. I am very happy to say that my journey has been very exhilarating and full of memorable experiences. I had the opportunity of interacting with host of people from diverse fields and this was truly an enriching experience. The chapter had a very active year with an array of activities and learning session planned throughout the year and with humility and pride I pass on my baton to the incoming Chair.Guwahati Chapter worked on enhancing membership engagement by organizing several programmes and learning sessions throughout the year.This year Team Guwahati had the opportunity to host the Young Indians Eastern Regional Summit. The successful execution of the Summit, working as a group of friends and colleagues, was a fulfilling experience.It was my privilege to be a part of various initiatives such as Global Entrepreneurship Week and National Volunteering Week. The dialogue with Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan, President, CII on Dreams & Aspirations – Building Blocks for Youth Development, provided an opportunity for the youth of the region to share their aspirations. On the learning front, apart from having regular learning sessions we also had interactive music workshop with internationally recognized bands such as Soulmate from Shillong and Betty from New York .

The Deepjyoti School initiative continues to be our utmost priority and I was happy to see greater involvement of members in the school activities.I wish the incoming leadership to take forward the Yi forum to newer heights.

It is a pleasure and privilege to be a part of this Young progressive India. For me Yi is not just an organization where one can devote one’s time and effort and work towards betterment of the society but instead I believe that Yi has the potential to bring about impactful changes in the overall development of the Nation.I believe that the dream of a developed nation can only be delivered by the youth.Youth population is the strength and plays a vital role in the developmental process in any country. Keeping this in mind Yi Guwahati Chapter intends to create a platform for the youth where they can contribute towards realizing the dream of a developed Nation.We will carry out a series of initiatives aimed at encouraging and empowering young minds by awareness, advocacy and action. The chapter remains committed to the long-term goal of setting Yi as a benchmark for the youth community in the region.The journey so far has been extremely satisfying with diverse experiences, unique challenges and success and as Yi Guwahati Chapter moves forward there are many challenges to overcome and l reaffirm Yi’s commitment toward Nation building and inclusive development, promoting the attitude of "We Can, We Will’. I assure you as always we will be committed to work with passion, dedication and devotion.

Confederation of Indian Industry and Yi Guwahati Chapter along with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya organized a Seminar on Volunteerism along with an Eye Donation Campaign at International Hospital as part of the National Volunteering Week on 18th January, 2014. The seminar was very interactive and successful and many people came forward and signed the Donor form and pledged to donate their eyes.

Music Workshop and Learning Session: 11th January 2014, Shradhanjali Kanan, Guwahati Eclectic North East in association with Young Indians Guwahati Chapter organized a music work-shop as part of the chapter Learning Session at Shradhanjali Kanan on 11th January 2014 with the band Soulmate.

Interactive Learning Session: 29th January 2014, Asian Institute of Management & Technology, Guwahati

Young Indians Guwahati Chapter in association with American Center, U.S. Consulate General, Kolkata organized a interactive Learning Session with the rock band activists Betty from New York at Asian Institute of Management & Technology on 29th January 2014.

Young Indians Eastern Regional Summit India: The Way Forward 13th & 14th December 2013, Guwahati

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Young Indians (Yi) organized the first Eastern Regional Summit India: The Way Forward at Guwahati on 13- 14th December 2013. The Summit theme under-lines the need to look at the way forward for India on all aspects that will take the nation ahead with the involvement of youth.

Mr. Swapnanil Barua, IAS, Commissioner North Assam Division, Commissioner and Secretary Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam while inau-gurating the Summit highlighted on youth role in development of Indian economy in all sectors. Mr. Jahnu Barua, Eminent Film Maker and Ms Sanjukta Parashar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Jorhat District speaking on the occasion requested the youth to believe in self empowerment and said that through self reliance they must channelize their energy in a positive direction for the growth and development of the nation.

Ms Atreyee Borooah Thekedath, Chair, Yi Eastern Regional Summit,Head, Yi Regional Management Team (East) ,Director, Web.Com (India) Pvt. Ltd. extended a warm welcome to all the delegates who participated at the Summit from various parts of the country.

Earlier welcoming the delegates Mr Srikant Suryanarayan, National Chairman, Young Indians &

Managing Director, Tradelinks Ventures Pvt. Ltd. said that Assam has set high standards in growth and to be in a summit that the Guwahati chapter has put together is itself a great fulfilling factor.

The two day Summit witnessed discussion and debate on ideas, visions and aspirations encompass-ing various sectors such as Youth and Public Admin-istration, lead by Mr. OP Minocha, Consultant to World Bank and Asia Development Bank &Former Senior Executive Fellow, JFK Harvard University Business & Industry, lead by Mr. Srikant Suryanarayan, National Chairman, Young Indians & Managing Director, Tradelinks Ventures Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Harsh Srivatsava, Chief Operating Officer ,Centre for Civil Studies, Dhrubajit Chaliha , Direc-tor Green Gold Assam Pvt Ltd, Media & Entertain-ment lead by Mr. Adil Hussain, Eminent Film Personality, Mr. Nagesh Kukunoor , Eminent Film Director , Ms Monali Thakur Famous Singer & Artist,

Young Leaders by Mr. Ashutosh Agnihotri IAS Deputy Commissioner , Kamrup (Metro), Mr. Jarpum Gamlin, Founder Eastern Sentinel, HH Pradyot Deb Barma, Maharaja of Tripura, and Sports by Mr. Larsing Ming Sawyan MD, Shillong Lajong Football Club, Vice President, All India Foot-ball Federation , Mr. Manoj Jalan Member ,Eques-trian Federation of Assam etc gave their views on taking India forward in the coming years. Mr. I Hemochandra Singh Minister Phed/Labour & Employment , Government of Manipur, concluded the 2 days summit with the final closing remarks and urged everyone to dream big and work hard towards transforming those dreams into reality. The Summit was attended by delegates from different cities across India such as Chandigarh, Kochi, Kolkata, Chennai, Trichy etc. as well as participated by students from different schools and colleges.

CII & Yi Guwahati Chapter organized a dialogue session Dreams & Aspirations – Building Blocks for Youth Development with Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan, President CII. Delivering his address, Mr Gopalakrishnan emphasized on the importance of learning to dream & aspire and having a vision early in life. He said the role of youth is very significant in the developmental process of a country. CII & Yi Guwahati Chapter organized a dialogue session Dreams & Aspirations – Building Blocks for Youth Development with Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan, President CII. Delivering his address, Mr Gopalakrishnan emphasized on the importance of learning to dream & aspire and having a vision early in life. He said the role of youth is very significant in the developmental process of a country. He felt that India which is progressing technologically at a great speed will offer ample opportunities to the world’s largest young population and youth with an inclina-tion towards innovation should be encouraged and nurtured early in life to achieve their dreams. With over 600 plus students, the dialogue session was well attended by eminent personalities of the Industry and academicians .

Yi Guwahati Chapter as part of the Global Entrepre-neur week organized “An Interactive Session on Entrepreneurship” on 23rd November 2013 at Asian Institute of Management & Technology. The main objective of the session was to inspire the students to develop positive attitude towards Entrepreneurship. Speaking on the occasion Ms. Dipannita Jaiswal, Managing Director, Brahmaputra Tele productions (Pvt.) Ltd. said there is no alterna-tive to hard work , perseverance and belief in oneself which will in turn pave the way towards success. Mr. Debajit Chaliha, Director, Green Gold (Assam) Pvt. Ltd. interacted with the students giving real life examples of successful entrepreneurs who started with limited resources but with dedication, perse-verance and added value were able to achieve success. Mr. Kaushik Barua, Director, Lynchpin , emphasized on gaining knowledge before starting one’s own business. He urged the students to dream big but keep realistic targets and towards achieving them. This was followed by a question & answer session where students actively participated and cleared their doubts about various aspects of Entre-preneurship.

Young Indians Eastern Regional Summit India: The Way Forward 13th & 14th December 2013, Guwahati

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Young Indians (Yi) organized the first Eastern Regional Summit India: The Way Forward at Guwahati on 13- 14th December 2013. The Summit theme under-lines the need to look at the way forward for India on all aspects that will take the nation ahead with the involvement of youth.

Mr. Swapnanil Barua, IAS, Commissioner North Assam Division, Commissioner and Secretary Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam while inau-gurating the Summit highlighted on youth role in development of Indian economy in all sectors. Mr. Jahnu Barua, Eminent Film Maker and Ms Sanjukta Parashar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Jorhat District speaking on the occasion requested the youth to believe in self empowerment and said that through self reliance they must channelize their energy in a positive direction for the growth and development of the nation.

Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organisation playing a proactive role in India's development process. Yi was formed in the year 2002 with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed Nation. Yi has around 1600 direct members in 32 chapters, and engages around 8300 students through student nets. Yi membership includes young progressive Indians between the age group of 25 & 40 and comprises entrepreneurs, professionals and achievers from different walks of life. "To become the Voice of Young Indians Globally" being the vision of Yi, it provides a platform for young Indians to participate in and contribute by becoming an integral part of the Indian growth story. Yi's work can be divided primarily into three groups; "Youth Leadership", "Youth Social Entrepreneurship” and “International Engagements”.

Under youth leadership, Yi works effectively for promoting leadership skills for its members through the learn-ing programs and missions to companies of global excellence in India and abroad; the development and engage-ment of students through its 110 Student Net platforms that has 8300 students; Yi's Regional and National sum-mits on themes related to the times and the role of youth and its engagement with the governments at the State and National level gives an opportunity for the members to become effective leaders with a vision into the future.

Under youth social entrepreneurship, Yi engages its members under the board categories of education, envi-ronment, healthcare, employability, arts (sports & culture) and rural initiatives contributing positively to its surrounding eco system and the Nation. Through its initiatives like Akshara under Education, Yi has impacted more than 15000 students across 57 centers and has successfully managed campaigns like the 'SYightboard Project', providing blackboards to schools across different cities, reaching out to 1070 schools nationally and impacting approximately 2,53,000 children.

Under the "International Engagement", Yi is one of the proud founders of the G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Alliance which is a collective of leading entrepreneurially-minded organizations representing the G20 countries who seek to promote youth entrepreneurship as a powerful driver of economic renewal, job creation, innova-tion and social and is one of the founders of the Commonwealth Asia Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs (CAAYE) which is a network of young entrepreneurs from the Commonwealth Asia region and the organizations that support them. Yi has organized learning missions to many countries around the world to understand and learn from the best practices and cultures of countries around the world.

With eleven years of glorious past and years ahead that promise nothing short, Yi intends to become a larger movement of young people and promote the attitude of "We Can, We Will".
